Loved my Shasta! Would have stuck with it for life except some A-hole stole it. I'm planning a thru-hike of the AT in 2018...what is the most like my old Shasta that I can get?
Why are most midsized packs not long enough to have usable load lifters. It is my understanding they should go down from the pack to the shoulders optimally on a 45 degree angle. Most packs don't even rise above the shoulders 'or' the straps and the load lifters are placed to high on the pack to be functional. Have thought about the Kelty Redwing, but a little to big (50 l) What 35 to 40 liter backpack would do nicely? Any suggestions? I have a torso length of 19" Carrie weight 20 to 30 lb.
Wayne Gregory you need to do something about your warranty. My son and I have been getting the run around. After 20 days nothing sent after being promised multiple times. Maybe they need more help...just tell them to be honest. If you don't intend to replace the pack just say so (although you agreed to replace it 20 days ago).
Don't buy a Gregory pack. My son is thru hiking the AT with one that is falling apart and after 20 days of back and forth emails and phone calls we still do not have a replacement. He sent photos of bag and they agreed to replace it but have done nothing. Imagine being on the trail and the thing you depend on most is failing you.
I just bought a Baltoro 75 here in Norway - on a whim🙄 - and I think I overshot the torso length. So happy to see that the backboard is actually adjustable! This video could do with an update tho, 240p...

Seems like the frame size can vary if they made packs with adjustment for the waist strap so it can be moved up and down.
