This is exactly what I would expect from a Vedic Astrologer teaching basics of astrology! I remember Einstein's quote, Make things as simple as possible but not simpler! You are a top quality Vedic teacher for us . Great quality content as always. Thank you a lot. Keeping coming these types of video format. They are coming in excellent and clears all our confusions. Thanks once again.
Thanks to western people for getting interested in vedic knowledge and share it with everyone otherwise, I could have never discover it. Thanks for sharing openly your wisdom and knowlegde.
In fewer words, Sun is a mild malefic, Mercury claps his hands to any planet, it sits with or is aspected by, and Moon completely loses its identity, and becomes like the planet it is conjunct. The nodes are neutral.
If I had a thousand likes they would go to this video. This along with your emphasis on establishing context needs to be part of every modern beginner jyotish learning resource. You are blessed with a magnificent flair for language and I'm grateful to have access to your commentary. May I request you to also make videos about the nature of influence of planets through aspect/conjunction and also your method to interpret good and bad results from a planet. Thank you in advance.
This is such a perfect video on an incredibly misunderstood concept. You even successfully answered a long-held question I’ve had about “functionality” (that is, functional benefics and malefics). Thanks, Vic!!
Great video Vic! both the content and presentation are top notch. Congrats on the changes, I really like them. This is probably one of your most important videos because it is so fundamental. I stopped using the terms malefic and benefic with my students and use "gentle and rough" or similar words. It makes more complex things in astrology easier to understand once you change the words.
Oh I get it. You are explaining the circumstantial stuff rather than the big picture philosophical stuff. Like the nuanced affects of beneficial or detrimental planetary aspects. I will have to watch this multiple times...the information for reading astrology is so rich and helpful. Thanks! 🥰
This is an amazing video Vic. Thank you so much If you ever created a playlist named 'best of Vic', this one should be part of it. The details on sun, moon and nodes are also insightful May I request a follow-up video on functional malefics / benefics, perhaps taking Capricorn, Gemini & other interesting ascendants as examples
Great content that everybody needs to hear. Its so easy to get spooked by astroly (esp. Vedic one) without a more nuanced understanding of it. Well done and good looking beard by the way 👏🏻
When I first was learning and heard these referred to good/bad by astrologers regarding my chart HOWEVER, life experience obviously was not the reality so ya knew there was much more to it - love this thank you! as my Venus is challenged and my Rahu is my best!
imagine astrology in future with data science and machine learning that could analyze, pattern, detect and shed new perspective blending traditional with modern. it would require whole lot of data to actually for consistency and interpretations..
Some deep insights there Vic. I like this approach.. much more nuanced. The idea of a shifting intensity depending on the amount of light present with the luminaries is a great interpretative principle. And instead of good/bad, the gentle/soft/indulgent vs harsh/cold/spartan. But I'm not sure about the nodes.. will have to spend more time contemplating.
What about the yogas that group Mercury as a benefic? (E.g. Sarasvatī/GoddessOfLearning, Cāmara/RoyalFan and Dhana/Prosperity)? Should we "drop" these yogas or modify them, or, could we just consider that they really should have always been described as "benefics and/or Mercury" or "Jupiter, Venus and/or Mercury"? (E.g. because all three are relevant to the theme of the particular yoga, e.g. learning/creativity/friendliness/wealth?)
can you give an example of a definition? for example, sarasvati does not class mercury as a benefic. rather mercury is intelligent, as is venus and jupiter. (I think this is what you said in your last parenthetic)
@@VicDiCaraAstrology Your "Guided Tour of your Birthchart" report does (at least the version I have): Goddess of Learning (sarasvatī yoga) This yoga forms when... 1. All the benefics (Venus, Jupiter and Mercury) are in angles or trines (houses 1, 4, 5, 7, 9 or 10) OR ..." Your report does the same (defines the yoga based on (only) "benefics", yet includes Mercury) for Cāmara/RoyalFan and Dhana/Prosperity. The (free) astrology software Jagannatha Hora simply lists "Mercury, Jupiter and Venus" for Saraswati, but for Chaamara it states "Two benefics in 7th, 9th and 10th" (and includes Mercury as an option in its computation). (Perhaps you will only accept a classical text's definition of a yoga, but I cheaped out on that because I was basing my post/comment on your report!)
Would it be fair to say that the nature of each uncategorized planet is more dependent on house/sign placement(dignity) along with rulership per Lagna?
@@VicDiCaraAstrology What is the difference between malefic with dignity and malefic without dignity? Lack of dignity is a dissonance between nature of planet and nature of zodiac sign. Is then a powerful malefic without dignity a kind of attitude that makes person to choose difficult environment over harmonious environment? Saturn is an expert at ugly job. Is then Saturn without dignity an expert at the ugliest job, but still has something valuable to do? Or it is just a weird person who wants to sing lullabies but has a very heavy metal voice?

Would it be fair to say that the nature of each uncategorized planet is more dependent on house/sign placement(dignity) along with rulership per Lagna?
no. they are equally dependent
Does malefic in detriment lose its power or it still has all the power, but uses it wrong?
power and dignity are different things. so detriment does not have a direct impact on power.

think of people who are dignified, vs people who are undignified. dignified planets are always preferred
Wonderful information!! A must watch again! Very thankful 🥹
