I doubt that I'm the only one who thought of this, but 10-15 years ago I had the idea to scan your own head, shrink it down and stick it on your favorite mini.
p.s. ITYM "striations". Stridulation is a repetitive sound like a cricket.

Cool stuff as always Max, always wonder how accurate these scanners were and now i dont have to. So a good review on the whole
Fun fact, "sculpting larger and then printing smaller" is actually how miniature manufacturing use to be done when it came to plastic kits IIRC. Anyway, we're not currently quite at being able to scan and replicate a 32mm/28mm human sized miniature yet. However much like how Resin printing went from, 10 years ago, costing £4000 for a 'small business' Resin printer in the Formlabs 1, competition between scanner companies has been driving things forward.
The main reason for this, strangely, isn't miniature nerds like us but Jewelry makers which often have highly detailed masters, if one of these companies can pull an Adobe/Microsoft/Apple and become an 'industry standard' then they can corner the market. We've honestly come on leaps and bounds ahead of where I thought we would be this time 3 years ago, so I'm thinking probably another 3-4 years and we'll have an affordable 'at home' scanner that can scan 32mm/28mm miniatures and the software will be up to snuff that we don't lose detail.
The last big hurdle for 3D printing then is one of the major ones, the Resin itself. Currently because the Resin and the fumes are toxic, it requires a seperate room with its own ventilation and has to be kept away from kids. If, by some miracle, someone invents a completely non-toxic resin that still has good print quality...that's when you'd see a much bigger uptake because now even someone living in a studio flat with only a couple of windows can 3D print without worrying about air contamination, toxic spills and the like.
However whether that is even possible or not, I don't know, I'm sure there are some very smart people out there working on it as the first company to get it out to market is going to rake in the big money.
