he was 2nd in golden ball award. Played in Madrid. 2 years after this he won golden boot for scoring 6 goals on world cup, first Croatia ever played, Croatia won bronze.

As a Dane, this goal still is a pain to watch. That said, it is a great goal.
Denmark had some great players back then Laudrup brothers Thomas Helveg Schmeichel.

i still have his Real Madrid kit from the 1996/1997 season i was the coolest kid in town when i played with that outfit. one of my favorite players together with Raul and Seedorf. I saw a ton of people play for my Ac Milan but i still wish Raul played for us

I don't know if this is true, but I guess every time Suker faced Schmeichel in a football match, Suker scored a goal. Great goal.
In that group Croatia beat Denmark 3-0, Portugal beat Croatia 3-0 and Denmark beat Turkey 3-0.

croatia lost 3-0 because it was 3rd game, 6 points, so coach replaced almost whole team. i didn't even watch that game can you imagine how disapointed i was when they said 2nd team will play?

Suker was superb, as were quite a few others. Excellent squad mid to late 90s. 3rd place at France 98 too.
That was a great Croatia team, and Suker was certainly one of the best. But I gotta say, as a kid growing up and during the time of this tournament I was just amazed by Robert Prosinecki. I still think he's the moist talented Croatian player I've ever seen.

This was such an amazing tournament for goals. The Atlanta Olympics started a week after as well. A great summer for sport.

I remember this well. It was Croatias first big tournament and it was really refreshing to watch them. Then they went on and did well at the world cup 98.

saturncho unfortunately yes it was way offside maybe 3-5 yards. I didn’t watch the game but from RUclips clip it seems that no Danish players were protesting. Same like Mijatovic’s goal vs Juventus in 1998
@@michaelstark8720 I can’t find any past rules stating the Gk position as you explained. As long as he’s inside his own half that’s all that counts.
Rule is clear even after 1990’s amendment, to stay onside an attacker must be at least level with second to last defenders on the moment the ball is touched/passed by the attacker’s teammate.
When Asanovic sends the long pass (the moment his feet touches the ball), Suker is between a Danish DF and GK. GK inside/outside the box doesn’t matter.
You seem very persistent about this. I hope you can give us link to the past rules (90s rules). This is not an attack I’m just really curious.
