  • For almost three years, the filmmaker Erik Pauser has followed the seasons and inhabitants of the Finn forest in Värmland. He has had Birgitta Elfström from Värmlands Museum to help her.
The film FINN FOREST - a film about people and places in northern Värmland is part of the project The road to world heritage, where Värmlands Museum is one of several actors working to get the Finn forest on UNESCO's world heritage list. The film wants to show the living Finn forest, how the old environments and stories are part of the present, and about people's relationship to these places and stories.
    Duration: about an hour.

Beautiful movie. Just learned that I am a Forest Finn descendant. So interesting to learn of this culture.

I really loved this video, as a 30 year permaculturist married to a first generation Aussie finnish wife it ticked all the boxes. How incredibly multitalented is Celcelia? She is amazing.

The finnish language has died out. Lot of culture is in the language and ways derived out of it. 😌

@@pr7049 "The Finnish language had died out"?!? Not in Finland anyway, quite the contrary, and many other places besides, so sot sure what you're talking about... In Sweden perhaps, that's what the guy here said, "the priests took away my language", exactly...

@@florenna Please present one true forest finn in Värmland Sweden with finnish language skills. Last speakers died 1970's. The comment was about forest finn culture. They spoke ancient savo dialect of the 1600-1800th century.

I find it hard to believe swedes lost all knowledge of how to build houses with wood and little else. Was doing nothing but farming for hundreds of years really to blame?

Väldigt vackra gårdar👍 Det är verkligen synd att språket inte kunde bevaras enligt Gottlunds planer från 1830-talet.🇫🇮Så mycket förlåras av kulturegendomen när språket försvinner.

What is that first melody? I play violin and would love to add this to my selection of music.

it's just call for your herd (cows, mostly). Very common in nordic countries, especially in finland and sweden. Pitches and melodies differ in every farm and with every housewife (i'm not sure about the right translation, hostess?). Women can make higher pitch, so they usually call the herd to drink/eat or to the barn. Higher pitch carries better above fields and water.

I'm intrigued because my dad ,sister, mom and myself have the brown hair and eyes. My other 3 siblings got the fair skin blond eyes and blond hair. But my mom's hair was blond till she grew up.
