I’m sure this guy is a great musician, a very spiritual soul, a delightful person but he is not an organist !!!! Look at the ‘King of Instruments’, the huge organs in the cathedrals & churches; the people who play those organs are the true organists.
They are taking this song (I wouldn't call it a hymn) 2-3 times slower than the proper tempo IMHO. This reminds me of when, in medieval times, composers of church music sometimes put the tune of a pop song in very slow notes to build the composition around. Certainly not what is happening here, but this style is stretching the natural harmonic rhythm of the piece and to make way for the percussion and the jazzy filigree of the organist.
@@MattLong101 Primarily because it was written as a gospel song by Andrae Crouch when he was 14. The African American worship experience, over time, has found better use for it as a gospel song, so well known, that it’s functionality is best suited for congregational singing (much like a hymn)….to the extent that like “My Tribute” and a few other Andrae Crouch tunes, it has been published in hymnals…almost since its inception. But technically it’s a popular gospel song that has historically lent itself as an honorary hymn 🤣😂
