Yeah I never covered it in this video as it was getting too long and I want to cover it in a later video, but to avoid that digital sharpness I have a export cheat code to get a jpeg file similar to a scanned film jpeg 😀
Fantastic informative video as always Gerard - quick one, do you delete ALL the photos that you don't keep in your culling phase? or still keep some in case you revisit them on day?
Thank you! That was very interesting and informative! Do your presets mimic Fuji Recipes with similar names to use on Sony files? Did you ever just use recipes and the JPGs straight out of camera (when you used Fuji cameras) or do you always go for the RAWs for the extra dynamic range etc? Great to see how you work!
Yeah so I don’t use the JPEGs out of the camera because I don’t think they are amazing to adjust white balance, exposure and tone of an image. So I just prefer to edit the RAW file and these presets work on all camera brands, you just need to tweek the white balance that’s the main difference not color science
Hey thanks 🙏 V1 is definitely less saturated than my V2 and V3 And the difference between V2 and V3 is that the V3 pack is more of a refined softer version of the V2, but the V3 pack has my Astia presets while the V2 has some other film stocks like Ektar 100
Hi im using T7 ssd as well, but on macbook m1 narative select always i needs to create new catalog because old one not finding location or images? Of course new catalog shows all my ratings from old one saved, but why need to create one again ? Maybe you know why ?
Congrats on 20K subs, (and a new mic?) Gerard! Nice work. For clarification, Narrative Select creates the new LR cat? Do you use smart previews in LR? How come you don’t use LR lens corrections? Cheers!
Hey thanks new mic goes good, still a lot of echo in the room but I’m managing ahahah So with Narrative you do t have to create a new catalog you can import to an existing catalog on you computer or drive. I don’t use smart previews any more as my computer is super fast, you’ll see that in the tutorial. For the lens correction, it has already been applied when it’s turned on with in the camera, so embedded with the raw file. I don’t sync the lens corrections as I don’t want different profiles for different lenses.
Great video. Question, how do you get rid of the dark patches where it looks under exposed 13:34? Looks like image is breaking on her neck and corner by her nose and eye?
You got to use the erase Tool and then blend it in with the masking structure ai. You can also boast the AI skin retouch higher if you want that will blend the dark spots, but I can hardly notice them on this photo
Hey so, I'm currently using Luminar Neo, how do you apply the presets to the application? The preset in your description is the skin retouching preset?
Hello, very helpful video. I want to ask about MAC PC brightness adjustments for photo editing? do you activate True Tone? How much brightness does a MAC PC use? Thank You
Hey I edit off a Asus Pro art 32 inch monitor it’s not too bright and is pretty colour accurate When I do edit off my Mac book I have the brightness a few stops down So nothing too scientific, but I did own a cheap monitor that I couldn’t edit the saturation and contrast as every time I exported I’d be different on my iPhone and on Instagram etc
Lightroom purely for the fact there is just more tutorials on Lightroom! but for skin retouching Luminar NEO 💯 You can actually edit in Luminar Neo just like Lightroom, it’s a very similar interface!
Narrative Select is free? You might want to check on that. I don’t think it’s free long term. As an amateur photographer their pricing options are out of my budget 😢
Yeah so it is free long term you just don’t get scene selection and filter by focus score, but you still see the focus score and I don’t use scenes or the filters for small portrait shoots For weddings I definitely use all the features as i quickly culling 10,000 images It’s also still no credit card required just email address
@@gerardneedham My apologies Gerard, you are right. My confusion comes from the ability to use the Pro version several times and then it reverts to the free offering. I'll give it another go. Meantime, thanks for the great videos.
Yeah I’m actually planning a video on how the dynamic range for editing is a similar tone a contrast to the older 5D as you don’t have much information in the shadows! These new cameras you can make things looking fake pretty easy

Educative and useful, Thank you so much Gerard! Good luck and keep creating!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
Going to grab these presets man. They look class. Nice video!
Epic let me know how you go with them
Like this type of video “showing my editing without actually showing it”😄 what about calibration, color grading and rgb curves?😁
All preset mate and that’s my editing workflow mate
@ I know, I know) anyway, like your editing style, very pleasing and warm
Hi Gerard thanks for your explanation, I noticed that the free preset is in jpg format and cannot be used
Love this look... in my opinion film looks are the only style that brings me an artistic feeling, hate digital sharpening and etc.
Yeah I keep them, but on my skinny disk drives and delete them off my SSD. You can also move or copy the files directly from narrative which I also do
8:54 Yep it's that simple.
Sure is

Thanks for great video, also need to pick up your presets! Out of curiosity, do you shoot your images on sRGB or Adobe RGB color space on camera?
SRGB
For printing I switch to adobe RGB in Lightroom before editing and export as adobe RGB
sRGB for web use
Adobe RGB for printing
If you shoot raw, the color space doesn't matter. It's only for the camera JPEGs.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing. What would be the key difference/application for your different preset packs?
Hey thanks 🙏
V1 is definitely less saturated than my V2 and V3

I'm planning to buy the v3 will it be compatible with the Sony A7C II?
Yeah same sensor as the a7IV 33mp works perfectly

I think more than the presets, it's all about the intention of the photo itself. Good presets though!

Anyone know how to achieve this on Davinci Resolve for videos? Thank you in advance
Yeah buy my Luts!
No but seriously my Luts are carbon copies of my presets, you just need to adjust white Balance and exposure and then add some grain
Pastel look would be the Canon 5D3 and 5D2

Cool. Have you shot that first girl in the white tank top and jeans again? Shes amazing.
Maybe soon
At this point you might as well shoot videos at 24 fps and pick the best frame for each scene😅
Ahahaha yeah I slam my shutter, definitely not worried about file size!
Did he spell sharpness wrong with the presets? lol
Probably lol I’m not an amazing speller hence I’m a creative person 😅
