Usually, the reason duct tape does not stick to ducting is because there is still some oil residue on the ducting from manufacturing. I always wipe my ducting first, whether its round or rectangular, it doesn't matter, I wipe it all w a damp rag, it dries in moments, then tape w a GOOD foil tape. I hope they put an exhaust fan in.
Mike really needs to start sharing the names of these clown contractors, repairman, plumbers so on. So that other people will not be ripped off. It's only fair to the consumer.
As a company you should never denigrate your competitors in any case. Bad mouthing your competitors is the tool of the weak and insecure and you would let your company down as well. Keep the focus on your own business and show that you're the better company by selling only your merits and the benefits of your product or service. And Mike knows this, he sells what he is good at and that he can fix what others broke.
karma wish him do.. but in practical terms ,no matter how earned.. if you make public statements directed at individuals the moment you start engage in direct manure throwing regardless how earned it opens the snake box of every scam pretending to be a legit contractor getting a free card to try and poison the well for every other professional or companies themselfs :/ its why regulation is so important , so a third party with no economic interest or conflict cheeks those wishing to operate in x industry and if anyone ever markets themselfs to do x but cant show a certificate nor able to tell you exactly what needs x papper work beforehand.. the public can know flat out they are no good.
I’m glad Mike was able to help this homeowner who seems to be very charming. It a shame that her friend recommended the wrong people to do the remodel. They definitely did not know what they were doing at all.
It is such a joy to see Mike, and his crew, working to make things right, because they care enough, that things are done right! Thank you! As a woman, who has dealt with dodgy tradesmen, who try to treat me poorly, because I'm a woman, it is refreshing to see your honesty!
I went to school in Massachusetts for an A/C license. I had to take 160 hours of National Electric Code and another 40 hrs of Massachusetts Electric Code classes. Then I was able to go for the A/C license certification. The instructor started every class with a story about some poor soul who electrocuted himself, or others, by careless practices. Those bare wires on metal and connected to the lights are a good way to cause that. I wish we had more contractors like Mike.
In Michigan contractor ask me to get the permit for his convenience. To abrogate his responsibility. Then the bad work he did was my responsibility. May be the same up north as down south.
Yet the homeowners of the shire will continue to chase the cheapest lowest cost job they can find. It is why I left being a contractor. I simply got tired of fixing junk work and being held financially accountable for junk work. If they would just hire a real licensed contractor from the beginning.
Man you're so right. I gave up my landscape business because I was getting seriously undercut by cheaper shitty companies. Some of these companies were charging 5-8 bucks a square foot for interlock material and labour and I don't understand how considering with my wholesale account I was paying $4-$8 a square foot for decent stone. I quoted a job $14,000 with a one year guarantee and they ended up finding a guy to do it for 5500 cash looked ok for a month before it started shifting and sinking and tons of cracked stones
This was a great episode. Incredible how poor a job those amateurs did. Nice new TV. Dates the show to at least 20 years ago. Had to laugh at 29:05 . $250 for that kind of work then is over $1000 today. If you want a career that pays well consider being an electrician, plumber, HVAC or other specialist or tradesperson. Not an easy job but with skills you can make money.
So unless they "upped the drama" for the TV show this is even worse than just a bad job. The contractor was a recommendation from a "friend of a friend" according to her. Seems like she's also out a friendship if this is the kind of work they recommended her way.
Not really, the friend might have had something simple and easy done with no problems, (or problems that don't appear for years), and made the recommendation in good faith. This is why I never recommend anyone to anybody without a lot of caveats.
@@Cheepchipsable The other common problem is Contractor puts in say a roof, does a good job. Then you recommend them to your friend who has say a fence put up. Other episodes of this show did that with the contractor having no idea how to do a task, but taking the job anyway.
If metal studding is all that weak, then HOW was it ever approved for commercial use, let alone residential? Commercial use usually has tougher standards, due to being public spaces...liability issues and so forth...
Metal studs aren't used for structural loads, as they also weren't here. Galvanized studs will also hold up better to exposure to water longer than wood. And he didn't use pressure treated wood on the concrete. So, he was wrong with that.
Back in 1990 I was in a work program doing construction from footings to finishing. " Channel Iron " or meta studs were being introduced into the construction field and it was touted as an " Anti-Fire " and being stronger than wood framing. Working with the channel Iron sucked ass. I would rather use wood.
Why do people go with cheapest and jump on it. A lot of us do not know the price to be expected but hear from others, real high ao jump on the cheap one. I juat buy used cars, not the best. That's assuming the blockages weren't caused by sewage being drained down a non-sewage line. It's entirely possible that the blockages were caused by the improper plumbing.
When they were laying the floor tile they used the trowel and made curved passes which is incorrect and will crack the tile over time because u get less than 50% coverage on the back of the tile, your supposed to have all your trowel lines going in one direction, then when you lay the tile and press it down and move side to side you will get 100% coverage on bottoms of tile, surprises a pro would lay tile like that

The only thing she might of avoided doing was the last paycheck but almost all contractors get an upfront payment for materials and then more money based on work done. If there was one thing I would tell Mike Holmes is that pedestal sinks suck. There is no counter space. Just install a normal vanity.
Couldn’t agree more.
3500 dollars wouldn't even cover the cost of just the electrical work that should have been a big red flag to her
that was beautiful work !!!
How do you get better water distribution with plastic pipe instead of copper? That doesn't make sense to me
And I like to use the white thinset, it's a little cleaner to use & seems a little easier to clean up before tiling
Mike when you see someone who gets taken to the cleaners that bad do you do anything to get there license pulled or fired or something???
