The closest thing I have to an ambition is to be able to support a family and not be a burden to my fellow man. Is that a reasonable pursuit in the eyes of God?

Working is a man's burden. Remember our Lord and Savior was a carpenter before kicking off fully his early ministries. And carpentry is hard work. As long as one doesn't have a love for money then its okay. As like I said a man must provide for his family earning an honest keep. Especially an able bodied man.
