Justice League: War is a 2014 American animated superhero film featuring the DC Comics superhero team the Justice League. It is the 18th film of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the second film in the DC Animated Movie Universe.
The film depicts an invasion of Earth by the alien and demon "New God", Darkseid, and the subsequent formation of the titular superhero team to counter it, which includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg and Shazam.
Plot
A series of abductions have occurred in Gotham City; Batman is implicated due to video footage. Green Lantern stops a kidnapping before attacking the kidnapper, a Parademon, and is almost defeated when Batman appears. The Parademon attacks them both; Batman and Green Lantern chase it into the sewers, where it charges a Mother Box and explodes. They examine the box, deduce it is of extraterrestrial origin, and decide to ask Superman for an answer. Another Mother Box, supplied by Flash is being studied at S.T.A.R. Labs by Silas Stone, father of Victor Stone.
Superman, who fought with a Parademon previously and believes Batman and Green Lantern are working with it, fights the both of them; the two are hopelessly outmatched, with the battle only stopping when Batman calls him "Clark" and Superman discovers Batman is Bruce Wayne. The trio begin to work together against the Parademons. On the planet Apokolips, Darkseid orders Desaad to begin an invasion of Earth in response to the superheroes' discovery of his plans. Victor and Silas argue over Silas' belief that metahumans are more important than football. Superman, Batman and Green Lantern realize an invasion has begun when the box activates and several Boom Tubes appear throughout the world.
The Box in S.T.A.R. Labs explodes and creates a Boom Tube when Victor is holding it. The explosion fuses the technology inside the Box to Victor's wounded, mutilated body. As several Parademons attack, Silas takes Victor to a technologically advanced medical bed and uses experimental technologies on him. Countless Parademons appear and attack around the world. The Box's technology spliced with Victor's body fuses itself with the various technologies around the room. Victor is transformed into Cyborg, with a body capable of transforming and adapting itself, including obtaining new features. Just as the Flash saves the scientists, Cyborg discovers details of Apokolips, Darkseid, and the invasion plan. He learns that the Parademons are actually inhabitants of worlds conquered by Darkseid, spliced with his technology, allowing him to mind-control them into serving as an army for conquering other planets. Billy Batson sees a Parademon outside and mystically turns into the superhero Shazam. Air Force One is attacked in the air, but is saved by the Amazon princess Wonder Woman and Superman. After the heroes gather, Cyborg reveals that the invasion is a prelude to the terraforming of Earth. Darkseid arrives and proves to be an extremely powerful opponent and the entire Justice League is hopelessly outmatched.
Darkseid uses his Omega Beams to fight Flash and Superman, who is incapacitated and captured by a Parademon. Batman prevents Green Lantern from going after them on his own with a broken arm. He tells Green Lantern to think about the lives at stake rather than his own image as a hero, and after unmasking himself, reveals that his parents' murders are what motivated him to fight evil. Bruce allows himself to be captured to save Superman. Green Lantern has the idea to strip Darkseid of his Omega Beams by destroying his eyes. Bruce goes through a portal to Apokolips, where he escapes the Parademon and stops DeSaad from turning Superman into a Parademon. Superman is left unstable and highly aggressive because of the brainwashing process, resulting in him strangling DeSaad to death and attacking Parademons and Batman. Batman reasons with him, and helps him reassert his own personality. On Earth, after Darkseid's eyes are destroyed by the Justice League, Cyborg reopens the Boom Tubes to send Darkseid and his army back to Apokolips. Darkseid fights back, and with Superman and Batman's assistance, the group eventually force him through the portal. With the world saved, the superheroes gain the public's trust and are honored at the White House.
In a post-credits scene, an Atlantean ship emerges from the ocean and Ocean Master appears carrying the dead body of his king. He believes that the surface dwellers on Earth are responsible, calling it an act of war from the surface, for which he swears revenge.

@@keithedwards9953the line doesn't make sense, they lost to an army of Parademon/Doomsday hybrid clones. Darkseid even had access to kryptonite as we obviously see, so he could have killed Superman at any time but just chose to use it to depower him instead. The movie doesn't at any point present you with a situation where they could have won, but lost because they were holding back and not willing to kill, they straight up just had no chance of winning against the force they were up against.

This was the best iteration of Damian Wayne. I'd be more than happy to see this version again somehow
I hope James Gunn pulls a lot of inspiration from his animated iterations to his live action portrayal in Batman: the brave and the bold.

the line about an army makes so much sense... as fucked as it is, they went there to kill Darksied, but they were an army of people who don't kill, where as killing for Darksied is as natural as breathing

Once again, this is why we let Batman make the plans instead of Superman.
I mean eh. This movie was just to destroy this movie universe. Heck even if Batman planned it the same result would happen as Darksied watched everything because cyborg didn't know he was transmitting video and audio to dark side directly. And neither did Batman over this movie universe year's. Also Sups is far from dumb. The writers of him are. Think of this. His race is thousands or millions of year's more evolved then humans in every way. Then you add to that the speed thinking he gets from the sun and the fact that his brain is a Quantum supercomputer operating at near-flash speeds and you wonder how that could fail unless the writers want it to fail.
The plan was fine. Otherwise, batman, Mr terrific, or any intelligent leager would've said something. Nobody knew cyborg was a mole.

@Lazyguy143 How on Earth the plan was fine sending Aquaman and Mera to Apokolypse (sorry if wrote it wrong), Aquaman will get weaker for dehydration and Mera too plus her powers use water in the surroundings, also they barely knew Darkseid's terrain, you just don't go into an unknown terrain in which you cannot get support, their best bet was not to divide and defend Earth.

This was one of the MANY issues I had with this take on the Titans. Like, Raven. Sweetheart, fuckin' WHAT!??!!!
Raven being the one to say that is icing on the cake, considering Trigon basically just sees her as a free jail key.
Tbf, there is a line between bad parents.
Those who don't care and those who just don't have the capability to be a parent.
Given the circumstance, it's a fair line if only for practicality and not technicality.

You can’t just say “even awful parents care about their kids” and leave it at that because mine and a lot of people’s interpretation of that line was “Even parents who neglect, harm, or manipulate you care about you” as opposed to “Even parents who are bad at parenting care about their kids” which is arguably just as bad btw lol
@worldwaide well it is more accurate if it's "even inconsistent parents care about their kids" in which is manipulation in itself, but they sure do seem loving... my dad is inconsistent and cares about me though it gets me to feel bad...

Damian is a born leader, literally trained from birth to lead the league of assassins. We see a similar situation in the judas contract where Damian warned both Dick and Kori about Terra only for both of them to dismiss his opinion. Turns out Damian was completely right and the whole team nearly got killed by deathstroke and brother blood.
Unfortunately, Damians rather black and white view of the world drives people away and leads to others not trusting him and not taking what he says at face value.

As someone who has two little brothers, I fully understand Damien in the scene, if my little bastards died in war and I had a pool that had even a sliver of a chance of resurrecting them, there is no force on Earth that could stop me from getting them into that pool
But he didn't bring him back. The body is alive, but the person is dead. Would you really do that to a loved one? Sure there's a chance they'll come back to life, but there's also a chance that you turn them into a monster. I burgled my sister...I KNOW how it feels to lose a loved one, since I've lost many. But even if these pits were real, I wouldn't roll the dice. Better for them to die as my loved ones than to live again as inhuman monsters with zero trace of the person they once were.
@brandonbradley8480 at the end of the movie, Starfire calms Dick down, so it's not that he (as a person) stayed dead it's more of he didn't have his anchor for keeping his sanity. But had a little bit of it back once she came back

You lose something when you die. Something that doesn't EVER come back. To die and come back...that changed someone FOREVER. In other words, he'll NEVER be the person he was before he died. You think you'd still love your brotgers if they came back as completely different people? Complete with entirely different personalities?

Darkseid revived her but as a cyborg (as with a couple of heroes) and brainwashed her to work for him. I'm also not saying that Dick is the same person as was before the death, but he still has some of himself in there to the point that Starfire can calm him down instead of going full "Lazarus pit crazy" as he previously was. This is also just a movie, so the logic behind reviving someone and them coming back with an intact psyche or having it destroyed beyond further repair can be bent due to whatever the writers and directors want
@michaelrobertson8841 the mechanics of the Lazarus pit are pretty solid and flushed out. Insanity is GURENTEED. And the dude who's been using it for liter centuries? Yeah... his mind isn't what it once was. Also, no, I didn't watch the movie. Nor was I assuming it was DARKSEID who resurrected her. I was assuming it was the heroes, which I'm fairly certain can't be done with a Lazarus pit if you've been literally torn in half. Also, I'm fairly certain Darkseid doesn't have the means to revive the dead. And how exactly does someone brainwashed by him break free of that control? Especially when they're literally cyborgs? That's next LEVEL programming. If even BATMAN is struggling against his brainwashing, how the hell is Starfire able to break out of it? Her mind is NOWHERE near as strong as Batman's is. Hell, he was able to literally resist demonic possession by TRIGON, who is WAY more powerful than Darksied is. Sure is wasn't for long, but it was long enough to use hlnerve gas on himself in order to take himself out of commission so that the team titans actually had a CHANCE of taking down the rest of the Justice League. No,I haven't watched this specific movie, but I do know quite a fair bit about the justice league itself.

This movie rocks. My only complaint is that there isn't another movie after this one to show what happened to the world after the Flash goes back in time to fix things. All we get is a house of mystery movie that shows Constantine being punished for messing with time that left more questions open than it answers.

Raven seems to miss understand. Batman isn’t really a bad parent, Damien was a terrible son who had on multiple occasions tried to shank his dad.
I think she's using her own father as a reference for this, not Batman. Remember that her father is Trigon, an actual demon, and he still cares about Raven somewhat despite wanting to subjugate all of reality otherwise.
No No, he's a bad parent. Negligent, and emotionally unavailable at least. He's better in these films than he is in the comics though. Raven was clearly talking about her own father though.

@@Mathivich yes but the OP point is is that some parents truly want to hurt their children or don't care at all. "Even awful parents care, somewhere deep down" is a dangerous naivety. Sometimes they truly are so awful that they only care about themselves. Maybe not Batman, but some parents in real world are like that. And putting a line like this in a cartoon might give a very wrong impression to kids that are being victimised (unless this show isn't for kids?).

As the victim of "Awful Parents" I call BS on your presumption. While it may apply to a fictional character like Batman it sure as hell does not apply to all the Awful parents in the real world.
This movie was 100% just a vehicle for some cool actions scenes, gruesome death scenes and to reset the dc animated universe, the plot wasn't really important.
Having said that the idea that Superman or literally anyone else in the league made a bad plan and Batman just went along with it even though it was bad is just super out of character for Batman.
Batman would have been heavily involved in the plan, if not the mastermind behind it. He would never just willingly go ahead with it if he thought it was a bad plan.
Also the whole "an army of with no Killers is no army at all" doesn't make any actual sense they lost because they were literally out gunned against doomsday clones and if Batman the world's greatest detective himself couldn't figure that Cyborg had been compromised, no one could have.
Also people saying it was stupid to send Martian Manhunter and Aquaman to the planet because they're vulnerable to fire, what's the alternative? Just not send two strong fighters because they have so you just have two less fighters on your side? Also you know who else is vulnerable to fire? Batman and everyone else that's not fire proof! Batman is also has a lot of other vulnerabilies that Aquaman and John don't have, but he still went too. Superman is vulnerable to kryptonite, and Darkseid obviously has access to kryptonite.
In the end just enjoy the movie for what it is, the moment you pick at the seams, the whole thing falls apart pretty quickly.
Well you're half right. But Cyborg was unknowingly a spy for Darksied. This is what gave him the edge. I think Batman was against it at first but went with it anyway which I felt was out of character. The movie felt more like tying things off, rather than building on things.
Also, dark thought but, everyone who was left there is dead... The exception being maybe John who can exist outside earth (Magic, dr fate etc) and Superman. (And obviously Flash)

Sure he knew their plan and when they were about to attack, but he already solo'd the green lantern, had an army of Doomsday style Parademons and had kryptonite. Even if he was taken by surprise, not even Superman could take him down without a prolonged fight, which means he could have just used his kryptonite if Superman ever did start have him on the ropes, which is a big of.
And then again I say he has an army where the common foot soldier is strong enough to fight on par with their heavy hitters and it only takes a small group to kill someone like Shazam.
Darkseid didn't even need Cyborg, he could have just killed Superman and had his army wipe out Earth's forces without anyone really being able to stop him. The writing in the movie actually might just go to far in showing how outmatched Earth is, because it makes all the arguments about what they should have done or not done seem silly and irrelevant, Darkseid just had too much power that never stood a chance regardless.
It's not written in the movie but the argument could be made that the actual purpose of his using Cyborg was to have Cyborg be the one to originally suggest a preemptive strike on apocalypse, this would serve Darkseid interest but because he needs an advantage, but simply for the convenience of corralling together to crush them all at once instead of having a protracted war on Earth. This would then allow Darkseid to move directly onto the next phase of capturing the earth and stripping it of its natural resources on a faster time table. Writing like that would have at least justified the Cyborg was a spy thing.
As any victim of abuse will tell you, that line about bad parents still caring is utter bullshit
The thing with the no killer army and the fact that Darkseid knew about their plan, mostly, Batman as per usual had a backup plan with Constantine as their trump card
Loved this movie, my 1 gripe, the only thing i hated about it was they brought the king and queen of Atlantis, 2 fish people to what might as well be deemed a planet of lava, batman and supermans great plan involved 2 fish sticks by the end of it and just to throw some shade, the Martian wasn't a great ride along either
At this point it wouldnt matter what plans they made as long as cyborg qas on the team it was doomed to fail.
The reason was that Cyborg was outfitted with tech from apokolips. If it was any other scenario Darkseid would be screwed. Guess the timeline really had to be rebooted or else Bats should have brought that up and realistically they would not have lost. That was a massive plot hole.
I used to hate Damien just personally but after watching this film I really liked him.I like the writing in this universe.

The writers made this film this way because these iterations of the characters were being absconded by the company. The writers said f that and killed everyone off. Boss move.
You know, weird to think about how true that kill line is for bats. Hell, in the comics he made robots to do that if needed.
Wait… Nightwing comes back as deadwing, so his soul wasn’t in his body when Damien put him in the lazerus pit, thats why Jason is fine (despite small amounts of psychological damage) but Dick can’t even speak

Plus also America was a power house together with the allies, the nazis only had the advantage cause they were already planning a war in times of peace. But back to the context of the vid, dark side is not only very powerful but is the one that will strike first and now also had insider info, I don't think that heroes going full killer mode will be able to defeat someone who these advantages already. And the point of them having a better plan will be of no use cause of the insider info, dark seid literally did full on domination in terms of war fare.
