Thank so much for the tip, I learned a lot, especially for a beginner, the difference between fluke and grub explained was awesome and how to work it, and 6-10 inch from the weight, wow, thank for everything!!!
Good stuff! I’m from Michigan planning a trip to San Diego in July. My goal is to catch and cook some fish out there from shore or pier. Catching a Halibut would be great but I’m open to anything (“edible”). I’ve been going through your videos absorbing the knowledge. Thanks for the content!
@@evanherrera5948 yeah. Catching rainbows at Big Bear was pretty easy. I’d definitely recommend that. I didn’t do any pier fishing as we just didn’t have a lot of time. The Big Bear part of our trip had fishing built into the itinerary.
Thats a hard one, as a passenger on a charter boat, you really at mercy of where the captain will go to fish for halibut. But utilizing a rig that targets the bottom, like a dropper loop setup does well when getting the halibut to bite.
The "better" option is the one that matches the bait size the best. If you are fishing with a larger artificial or live sardine a 2/0 can work great. If the bait is smaller, we would recommend matching it with a smaller hook.
yeah alaska has quality halibut fishing, much like norway. monster halibuts. In norway we mostly use jigs, deadbait rigged with a heavy jighead and with a stinger or a sea boom or gliding boom. i use 75lb braid and 1.4mm shock leader.
Great explanation but brow, your drop shot rig in the video shows the weight distance from the hook is more than 12+ inches. From what I can estimate, it's more like 15 inches which is usually the distance I've used and have had more success with this distance than 6-10 inches. Also if you are standing on a dock or a pier and casting, the angle of how high off you are will make the distance from the weight on the hook compared to casting from the sand/inshore.
Glad I finally found BDoutdoors on youtube, for some reason I hadn't seen it. Great job as always Rodney! I was #97 thumb up so yes, I'm guessing were about to see you catch that butt for BD!
Man this one of the best tutorials I seen. Thanks for the tips

@@jimmac144gotta hit the saltwater next time brother freshwater fishing is garbage compared to the bites at the bay
I know you said from SHORE, whats your thoughts on 6 to 10" from the bottom using dropper weight drifting from a BOAT using live bait????
I’ll try your rig style next week. Thanks
Thanks man ... I'm going to try that on the surf...
Can you tell us what are the signs to look for or ideal conditions to start attempting to fish halibut on a charter boat?

Cool video bro! Do you have a tutorial on how to rig this halibut drop shot set up?
Gracias es el vídeo que estaba buscando, bien explicado para entender exactamente como pescar esos lenguados
Why this style vs just a 2 oz jighead with a swimbait attached? Whats your opinion on which works best?
Great video!! We will give it a try tomorrow.
Thank you for sharing great info with everyone. God Bless
Thanks Rodney for being clear, concise, and specific. Very helpful...ks

Thanks for the tips. God bless you.

Do you know if a size 2 hook is better than a size 1 hook for this? I know a lot of people that use a size 2/0, so I am just wondering.

@@bdoutdoorsdotcom-m4p I am using a swimbait that is on the smaller side, so I will use a size 1/0 hook. Thanks for letting me know!
This is exactly what I was looking for
What if you drag the weight over the halibuts head? Will it still bite?
It's good tips to catch halibut more efficiently..the predators seem to use less energy to get a bite ..thank for the brilliant tips
Is that mojo rod medium or medium heavy. Wich one do you recommend
Appreciate the footage of an actual halibut hunting the bait
Great video Rodney
Thank you so much for the explanation! Such an awesome video
Thank you for the tip. Does it matter if it’s high tide or low tide to target halibut?
Hi Chan, I always fish when the high tide is coming in. I normally start 3 hrs before high tide and finish before high tide.
good tips and make sense, thanks!
12-14 inches with light like for me, I present an injured baitfish. 6-10lb fluorocarbon.

What kind of soft plastic lure? How Long is it.
great question. I personally like using the 4 inch white ice zoom fluke bait. but you can definitely use the 5inch sizes
Great video bro
Thank you fishing s mission tomorrow this should help
Here in Alaska I use 100 lb test line and 2 to 4 lb weight.
Pacific Halibut are the real deal! Our California halibut on average are only 8-50lbs.

@@bdoutdoorsdotcom-m4p no luck on the drop shot. But got a keeper 30' using a jerkbait.

I thought about that too. I'm fishing for halibut tomorrow. So I'm going to tie two swimbaits to my leader. Double dropshot.
Liked and subscribed. Good info. Thanks Fishing Rod#2

Sounds like your teaching kids how to fish
Hallibut gotta be one of the most ugliest fish I’ve ever caught
Plastic....lol
That is not a drop shot rig, that is a Carolina rig.
The Carolina rig uses a sliding weight above the bait kept away from the bait by a swivel and bead. This is a drop shot rig
@@billhailey9563 Yup
Was that like a modified Carolina rig? Your weight in between main line + leader hook.?
No, weight at the bottom, the hook/lure is between mainline and weight...
