Props for sticking to the spot with all the weeds. A lot of people would of just passed that spot. I learned a lot from this episode. Always spittin' knowledge 🙌
Thanks brother... be the lure
Damn hella halibut! Great stuff bud! Now ima go try it
Hella butts 😅
After you get a taste of halibut, you don't want surf perch anymore. Ocean looks so calm. Looks like somewhere inside the Monterey Bay. Great video 👍
Haha just taking advantage of it. Perch is year round, halibut is not...
U already know that it's going to be a good video 🎣
Thanks! This one is more for education
Thank you for all your knowledge in fishing. Stay safe
Love ur videos bro, big inspiration for me keep the good work
May I asking you where are you fishing at? I live in tx
So much information your giving us. Very appreciative Ed
Regards to Frank! Always good to hear from you pat!
I love your videos and i have try them around Monterey, Marina, and Moss Landing. I have skunk in the last month on striped bass and halibut, maybe next time you can invite me to fish with you when you come back up to this area. I live in Central Cali. Hopefully you can give me some tips that i can use around the area. Thank you for any info!!!
We are fans of you that includes my grandkids
I’ve never heard of this technique for saltwater! It’s really cool and I’m glad it works so good for you! I guess it’s similar to using a bucktail for their smaller cousins fluke/flounder on the east coast! Very informative loved the video.
Excellent video brotha.. I might want to give it a shot in the near future.
Yea, if it wasn’t that weedy even using a buck tail as the sinker might have made sense.
Do ittttt! 👌🏽
Awesome day! Thank you
For showing me how to work the drop shot! Still haven’t gotten one! Only on the lures! But well get one 🤪
Would’ve been epic if you hooked up but getting one at the end on a lure was great too!
Halibut on the rubber has been my forte since before Wormking came out w the the modern style swimbaits scampi is how I&I started. U make great vids nephew!!!
Try chatterbaits!! Work killa in dirty h20
Tried a chatter bait style on the last trip and the action is incredible. Just couldn’t find the fish
Love the hook set @5:35
That zoom in was major key
I wonder if that drop shot would work around Eureka beaches? I guess I'll have to try it and see!🐟👍😄
Every day is different! Never know till you try!
I've learned so much from your videos and have been putting that into use fishing. Keep the videos coming! Thank you :)
Thanks for the technical aspect. Hitting the water for the first time tomorrow.
Good luck!
Hook2Cook
So far today I’ve got 6 dinks. But having fun and getting use to their bite. Using gulp sandworms.
I’m jealous 😔. Wat up E sick video 👍🏼
Get out there rich! Thanks man
I would say that is a nice day fishing 4 undersize Hali! Nice vid, Ed! Good job!
Awesome video brotha! Looks like I've been doing it right. The fires in Santa Cruz have been keeping us off the beach. To much smoke. We'll be back on them once the air clears. POWERRRRR!!!🤙🏼🎣
Those fires are pretty bad! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they’re still around by the time you can get out
Bro thanks for this. I been dry on halibut. Last time i caught one was on the calissa. Need to use this technique soon.
Remember to keep it slow
Such a great video always learning on how to catch them hoales.
I’ve spent the past 3 days in Santa Monica in search of surf flatties. Used LC jerkbaits, drop shots, swimbaits, etc. Absolutely no luck on any of them. I know it’s all part of the grind, but rn I feel so frustrated.
I’ve had success doing this with a buck tail or t-rig on the bottom and drop shot about 6-10 inches above
Thank you again for your generosity of knowledge
Thanks Kate! It’s a pleasure!
Santa cruz beaches are starting to heat up again for Halibut with some bonus fish if your fishing the rocky reef locations off the beach. The halibut had been holding in 40-50 feet but there moving back to within surf casting range. Striped bass however are oddly missing in action?
Thanks for the report brother. ToMorrow to see what we can pull up. Different spot from this video though
@@Hook2Cook What do you think about a tackle kit designed specifically for the Surf halibut angler ? We tend to piece buy items vs a kit. Was thinking a complete kit might be very doable given the increasing interests yearly.
When will you get some 5" battle star swimbaits in shiney white in stock?
What pier is that you're by? Great work man!
Great tips. Gotta try that dropshot
Heck yea B! Thanks bro. Glad the tips sprinkled throughout this video helped
Keep. Fishing idol
Can you use the drop shot for striper bass, I mean the white fluke is swimming giving it action, I am a rookie to fishing, that why I ask such insane questions, lol hahahahehe.
Great video and tips, but one bad thing is focus. Sometimes it’s focused behind you. Is it Santa Cruz right? I see people complain about fishing spots ;)
Thanks and welcome to the Channel. we never mention location by name and fish move. Most people take what they learn from these videos and apply it to their home water anyway.
@@Hook2Cook I never fish for Halibut. What is the season, I mean month in the Bay Area and what area, I believe Santa Cruz, how about Monterey???
We should go fishing sometime I just got into fishing since I just got out the hospital
Seems like goleta beach. I cam assume since that beach always have seaweed
Nice rod bro 👍
Do you predominantly fish north of Newport or south? Don't want to know your fav's, just areas. I use to fish the jetty at Seal, this was back in the 70's. Retired now and thinking of getting back into it mainly for halibut. Good video's good content. Thanks
If you don’t mind the question, where was the second place you fished located?
Nice spot
There and Back is Jeff Becks best album !
Very helpful video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Is there much benefit to using a Drop Shot instead of a Texas Rig if the Zoom Super Fluke's 3/0 or 4/0 hook is rigged to be weedless? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Yup! The rig make so much sense when halibut love hanging out on sand with vegetation around. Check out this video for the exact setup ruclips.net/video/l1wVe3lqn8o/видео.html
We’re do you fish in California I’d love to join I live in Long Beach
What power rod do you recommend?
If you don't mind me asking. What beach are you guys fishing?
Thanks for asking so nicely. We don’t share exact locations. Thanks for understanding
@@Hook2Cook hahahah. You don't want to give away the honey holes huh?. So can you tell me are you in socal or Norcal?
Central
So I noticed your using 13,s A3 do you like it better than the z3
Good eye! The z3 lasted a long time before needing a major servicing. Really no casting reel should go through what we put them through. In short, loving it so far about the same. They’re both 7:3:1 which is nice
Hook2Cook so I got one at turners for 130$ 6-3to 1 wanted it for bait and I think it cast better still haven’t used it in the surf I’m hoping this weekend I want throw the Lucky crafts with the one that word the best and does the power handle feel better than the paddle. Thanks for your consults and all the info I’m new to the surf but not fishing I’m still a little Leary about going on a boat with 25 strange dudes who fish
great lesson on catching halibut. You talk about your rod, but tell me about your reel. It looks small but strong.
Thanks Rob! Yes it’s the concept A3 by 13 fishing. Tons of drag and ok in the salt. However, dunking it and using it in the surf is still Ill advised... baitcasters are just so direct and have so much control. Perfect for this technique
where is this place at? Ive never caught a Halibut, it will be interesting aplying your technique
sorry, we dont share location names on the channel
Hell yeah where do you live in California??
Why not throw with a bucktail on the bottom?
Too much seaweed. But in order for the buck tail to be effective it’s gotta be off the bottom, which defeats the purpose of the dropshot fluke. This is more effective.
RIP to my spot. :'(
We do our best not to say exact locations.
@@Hook2Cook i get it bro, also not the hardest spot to find. no sweat, just fair warning to others since vids been dropping at the spot its been real busy.
Rip to the spot for real hahaha so many people now
Wasn’t cause the videos he’s posting it’s from all the dudes posting the Seabass pics and telling everyone about the spot that’s what’s ruining it. It sucks.
Did the same thing to PISMO DUNES COME TO CATCH MONSTER PERCH and use code hook2 cook .. that’s why they was always small perch or no for long time because burn spots
If you’re ever looking to fish here hit me up.
One inch away, that’s what she said 🤣
