that could almost be taken seriously tbh. Jiri's *pace* really impressed me in this fight. People joke about him being a light-heavyweight Tony Ferguson, but it's not a bad comparison at all: he's got that same combination of unique awkwardness and insane conditioning which Tony made work so well. These two aspects complement one-another as the weirdness flusters the opponent and the pressure stops them from analyzing it and finding holes. Some fighters like to have their opponent scared, others like them overconfident, some like them furious... Tony and Jiri seem to enjoy having an adversary who is just thoroughly confused as to what the hell's going on. And i love it!
I liked jiri alot on that fight but he definitely was getting hit more than necessary, he was seeing red and going like s bull, that chin is gonna give up on him if he banks so much in it instead of having an active defense.
@@joshuawalker301 true. Although I didn't like Tony's style of moving away from punches to roll with them, since it created distance and interrupted his pressure, at least it was *something* to defend himself. Jiri, however, seems to have no real defensive strategy at all and it *will* catch up to him. The worst part is that he's so comfortable with his all-offense style that I don't see what defense he could incorporate without losing what makes him great. A guard is out of the question since he's so comfortable with his hands down... Maybe some good shoulder rolls? Off of both stances like James Toney? ... not an easy thing to learn i'm afraid
@@lhommepeignoir5057 he needs to stop training with whomever is training with, he already squeeze all the juice that was there with them and should train with trevor wittman, or however you write his last name down. Jiri's style makes more sense at hw than at lighter weights, because hw's gas so much quicker. At lighter weights you can't be a punching bag because people won't get tired of punching you. At hw you can be faster than their fists. Jones distance control has failed against people with a reach equal to his.
Haha love the outro as always, Slacky J. I wonder... if Michelle Waterson just stood in the centre of the ring and did the Chun-Li thousand kicks without stopping, do you think she'd create a vortex strong enough to just draw her opponents into it so they actually get kicked? 🤔 I suppose the other option would be for Michelle to back he opponent up to the cage and then start spamming the kicks so they get stuck and can't fight back... it works against Zangief 😄😋
God I miss Fightland, some banger articles from Jack in those days. On the whole Bushido being kinda sus thing, Kurosawa often explored that in his films but perhaps the best film about that is Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai, both the classic and modern remake are phenomenal, highly recommend
Bushido was considered an antiquated philosophy by the time of the industrialization of Japan, and the traditionalists/ samurai who fought with the shogunate would refer to it. After the war the Emperor was moved by the leaders determination and decided that bushido should be a recognized tradition as a concession to the samurai class during their transition into “modern” society. Also before you ask, yes there is practically a direct lineage between this event and the Japanese military high command using bushido to convince pilots and soldiers to carry out suicide missions
by virtue of being a counter puncher you know how to wait before you let the shot go... he's not so much getting caught immediately after throwing, but by people who are willing to wait through his winding its the third or so step backwards that jiri drops too often. When he forces his way through range quickly, (often) at some point he gets wider and lower... which he covers with the looping perpetual head movement its tough to say someone's footwork needs to get better in that high range of movement; especially when your talking about bringing your weight from down low to up high, while peddling out (backwards) from wide head movement..... which all works for him and he does well someone with a muay thai pedigree may be able to target his body with kicks and knees. But it keeps his chin out of immediate danger, and is often in the right position to pick up a single leg. which may be the better route in certain moments, just to use that position defensively and reset. He is super aware of his strengths being leveraged with ring cutting, a lot of what he does he does to maintain that. But (sometimes)... if he just moves laterally, to the ONLY open space he in position for, he could get hit a whole lot less. _____________________ unless he can start minding angling out - by; getting lighter, waiting for the right time to hop step, setting up switches, or (stepping under) rolling the direction of both feet... because he'd really have to be able to do all of that to recover his ability to get straight back to the outside( just on his feet)
Jiri needs to go work with Trevor Whittman. Trevor morphed Justin Gaethje from a reckless slugger into a precise killer. Jiri's lack of Defense reminds me of Justin G. in his first 3 fights. That will get you KO'd sooner than later.
It's shit in ufc light heavy but overall it's stacked mma has a problem having the best fight each other like boxing. Boxing is ahead on mma making the top fight each other than mma
DS generated a lot of money for the ufc, but were he paid in full he'd still be a nut job, brain damage is a mtf.'Capital rests upon the exploitation of the worker'.
Jack, I really think you misunderstand the Bushido thing deeply. It is a code of chivalry for sure. But what you are missing is some aspects of the history of philosophy in Asia. It is a code of chivalry, grown on a background of a philosophy that is fundamentally different than the western point of view. This is what makes it interesting. My point in a different way: you could find the same value in a book about traditional Japanese woodworking, as you find in the Bushido. All Japanese traditions are impossible to separate from meditation and religion. E.g. in Japan making tea... becomes the tea ceremony that you can study your whole life, being certain you will never be done learning. Then if you compare that to British tea making, British tea making is also complex and with lots of rules. But it is never seen as a way to reach enlightenment. This is imo a great template for seeing the difference between Bushido and Chivalry. The difference is in the philosophical background that sees any activity practiced with diligence as a way to reach a higher level of being. Furthermore, where you comment on how Bushido was used in WW2, I struggle to see the relevance. But it seems to me your irritation with Bushido comes from there. To me this shows you are misunderstanding what it is. Your expectation seems to be that it be some perfect guide to living or fighting, where it is just an interesting example of something the Japanese do with any activity.
Both Procházka and Usman have taken big shots, they're not as good as everyone makes them out, Usman got dropped by Burns and took big shots from Coby. Neither are the new Anderson Silva, neither are completely in the zone, neither are untouchable

The problem with MMA it's locked into exclusiveness it's not as open like other combat sports or there's no mandatory competition within the promotions.
