    Hi bill your layout has almost reached the end of construction, it’s amazing to see how much work you have done to it and will look great when finished and all loco’s running.
    Can’t wait for next update from you 😊

    The backscene will make a tremendous difference to the layout. I was staggered when I added mine, the realism was amazing.

    What you have done in the last 12 months is absolutely brilliant. Gone is the old layout, which served you the channel and us perfectly well to this wonderful enlargement is just amazing. I am in awe. Well done Bill. 😊😊😊😊

    I'm impressed by the rapid progress you are making on this layout! One think I've seen done and been meaning to try myself is using magnets to attach signals and other tall and thin structures to the base board. This way if one gets bumped, it falls over rather than bending or breaking. This only works for light signals and not semaphores obviously!

    Hi Bill. I very much enjoyed my tour of your layout, courtesy of your DMU fleet.
    Your idea to make the station entrance road over the bridge and down the slope traffic light-controlled is excellent. Looking forward to that.

    Hi Bill, the layout looks really great! One suggestion about trees, don’t straighten the seafoam trees, if you look at nature, trees don’t grow straight they are twisted and angled. Good luck Harry

    • @oobill
      @oobill  2 дня назад

      Some of them are bent right over and will need straightened or they'd look odd. Some are fine as they are though.

    Oh, it's looking good. I love the signal box, very pretty. All the DMU's plus the Park Royal, excellent. Then to top it off the Driver's eye view to give that essential view of the layout to confirm the design choices. 😊

    Brilliant - the Signal Box fits Just Perfect - Something effective I noticed from Exhibitions is a Black Curtain below the Layout that covers up the Storage box’s, Wires and support legs etc which draws the eye where it needs to go - Great Selection of DMUs All Running Sweetly - Awesome Job 🙌🏻✨

    Hi Bill. Metcalfe kits are good but they can look a bit two dimensional. What I mean is that there is no texture to them. The bricks and roofs are just flat. But if they are placed in the right location they do look good. Those tre's also look good , but they are tall. So place them closer to the front and put smaller one's towards the back. Its all about depth perception. Your a smart guy so I know that you know what I mean. Now you getting towards the end its all little jobs to do. Signals , street lights and figures are all that is needed from now on. Great build , well done. Now just sit back and play trains. Good luck.

    For me Bill the two areas of your layout for me, are the petrol station / Gnomes Legs and the Folly Tower over the viaduct. Great to see the Railbuses out and about with other DMU's even Worst Barbie Scotrail units in action 🤗(Scotland ended up with all 5 types of 1960's Railbus, as a East Anglian we had the Waggon und Maschinenbau Railbus (5 built, 4 survive), My old preserved railway (Colne Valley Railway) had 2 of the AC Cars built (5), Park Royal, (5) Wickham (5) & Both Wickham (1) & Drewery (2) built for what is now Derby RTC. (of which Heljan make a false a false livery W&M railbus).

    It’s looking good and coming along great, Trees? Keep the trees at the back of the layout as I’ve seen them in front and it blocks out the view of the trains.After you’ve put so much work and effort into the layout.Kind regards, Jim Ewen.

    I found that using a pencil along the card edge of the Metclafe builds helped to take away the harshness of the white without over painting the printed brick surface.
    While the loss of your first layout was a shame, it was clearly the right decision looking at your achievement.

  • @FlyingScott

    Cheers Bill, even without grass or trees the newly sceniced section still has something about it doesn't it?
    I was actually wondering, I know you don't do traditional reviews, but I do think you could bring more to the table where maintainability of models is concerned. Would there be any chance on seeing a sort of "buyer's guide" for certain models, like how to distinguish Made In China(tm)-style models?

    • @oobill
      @oobill  День назад +1

      I have been thinking about doing some sort of video about what models to avoid and what to look for. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing a proper "Buyer's Guide" because I don't actually buy many locos. But I've seen enough to have a reasonably informed view of what to avoid when buying used locos. I think...

    Just had a thought about your points dilemma, would it be possible to Dremel them out and then fix the new ones in by soldering them to the existing track? It seams a shame to have to pull up all the track around them.

    • @oobill
      @oobill  2 дня назад

      The track either side will be left as is. I'll video the repair but yes I either dremel the joins or use track cutters. When refitting I push the fishplates back flush with the ends of the point track and then once in position pull them back across the join.
