I moved here at 18 years old from the hard tough east end of London so this to me is absolute heaven and I love it.

I have been in Stevenage for nearly 2 years now, and the one thing that annoys me about the people is their disregard for their surroundings. I am fed up of picking up my neighbour's bin bags and putting them in the shed where the skips are, no one seems to care. They are renting so don't see it as their problem, whereas I own my flat and I have to pay to have the rubbish removed unless I sort it. The whole town centre needs revamping with decent bars and shops.

    Thats right.
Never forget the great lady. Shephalberry, all kids, every kid. The best days, and all because of Mrs Reba Younge

like many Britons. I am saying it from experience as I lived and worked in Stevenage for more than 2years. I was considered to be a stranger there however I made the effort to learn English properly, made lots of friens and worked every single day. Never claimed benefits, never stole and never cheated...So?

I'm pretty sure I know Gary Younge and his family, I too lived in Wychdell. I was under 10 at the time, but I remember him and his family, lovely people. Houses behind the Hawthorn hedgerows that were laden with caterpillars :).

Times change, people change. Imagine what the victorians would say about everyone in Stevenage.. not just the younger people!!! Hahaa, Bit of an extreme example, but I hate being a person stereotyped because of my age. You can find violence everywhere, even in the nicest towns in the world, things kick off every now and again.

It should not be the foreigners to be blamed for Stevenage being broken as most of them are fair, hard working people, you know the one who serves you at 2am in the kebab shop or serves your morning coffee. However they might not speak the language that well as they should to assimilate but most of them especially europeans are there to work and not to hang around and laze about

I live there in the 80's and always felt under threat but then I went to St Michael's (the town's Catholic comp.) which was an excuse for a lot of local kids to assault myself and friends on a pretty regular basis.
If there were nice people about they seemed to be in a minority. There was then a strong sense of town pride which seemed to come out having moved there from London. It was harsh and unwelcoming.
On the upside, there weren't any people wearing fur hats on sunny days back then.
