Adidas has the best branding logo - 3 stripes. They fit naturally into shoes, trousers and hoodies alike.

yep, I don't like wearing clothes that explicitly show the logo of its brand but with adidas is different, the 3 stripes logo is so clean that it barely resembles a company's trademark

I'm surprised you didn't mention much to their iconic branding of the 3 stripes. I think that kind of genius and simplistic brand recognition has helped carry the brand for years. They also stuck to classic designs and a "European" look that was huge in the 90's when athletic companies were exploding.

Brief history of Adidas's logo according to Finnish Wikipedia:
A company called Karhu initially used three tracks as a symbol, even before Adidas. The Adidas founder, Adi Dassler, bought the symbol in his shoe to use the three-stripes mark at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 because Karhu had used the mark before them. The symbol was purchased with a sum of EUR 1,600 in the 2011 currency, plus two whiskey bottles.

Avery Lopez-Baines I have a pair; best shoes I've ever bought; my feet are somewhat wide for a guy of my size (I'm so skinny you'd expect me to have thin feet, but I don't), and if I wanted to accommodate for my wide feet with most brands of sneakers, I'd have to get a pair that are too long to fit my width; I'm looking at you, Nike! And I don't have the kind of money for Jordans, sooo... ya. Plus, the other pairs I got would wear out in six months; these are holding out very well, and I got them back in January. Besides, I wanted to go pretty simple and not be very flashy.

This was one of your best ones ever. I really really really enjoyed it and on top of it, another thing that makes Adidas the way they are, is the shoes last twice as long as Nike's. That's why they probably don't have the number 1 spot, because you don't have to buy as many during the year. I think unfortunately that kind of cuts the mustard in the wrong way, but it is true ask any real athlete.

I read a rumor that the Dassler brothers started having a fallout because while Germany was getting bombarded by the Allies, one brother and his family went to visit his brother while they were having dinner. Then the Allies started bombing again, and the host brother said something along the lines of "here they come to bother us again", referring to the bombings. The other brother misunderstood this as an insult to him and his family and they had a big argument.
Funny how Hitler was more accepting of Owens than his own country. Supposedly, Hitler sent his congratulations to Owens, but when he came back to the US, Roosevelt didn't even do that, no medal, no nothing, and he still had to find jobs to survive.

The first time I ever saw an Adidas shoe was on the '70's TV show Starsky & Hutch. This was at the dawn of the "Athletic" shoe becoming acceptable footwear in non athletic areas of life. Shortly afterward many other manufacturers (like K-Mart) had 4 stripe knock offs of the Adidas running shoe Starsky wore on the show. Those 4 stripe knock offs were the first "gym shoe'" I was allowed to wear to school.

Hi, like your channel, I'm an Australian media graduate (basically an ad-man + studio gopher), I knew eventually when I clicked this Run DMC would show up; it's something we study in our advertising course.
Supremely simplified story: Adidas was simply not Nike, the poor man's brand: wanting Nike always gets Adidas. However because Adidas was so iconic with the hand-me-down culture of the poorer American communities (Why gangstas are always in baggy clothing from their older siblings) it simply made sense that Adidas was the brand that Run DMC as well as their fansbase identified with.
It did eventually spread the brand to the current point and, the poor-man Adidas became Celebrity related. Run DMC became the quintessential notion of selling out, but they grew each other's brand ridiculously. Even the Music videos look like and ad for the brand. And the story, well you covered the aftereffects pretty well.
I like your content, please continuing producing it, it provides an interesting view on how companies look in North America.
    PS
I always thought Run DMC just sang Ah-DEE-dus as poetic license or make it fit into the beat of the song better, I didn't think Americans actually pronounced it that way. xP

For one, how did one of them apparently end up with the whole company while the other just walked away? Was there a big cash buyout? Legal shenanigans? The departing brother felt the loss was worth it just to get away from his brother, or what?

A look on Adidas Wikipedia page reveals a treasure trove of information, especially into how much the two brothers ended up hating each other, which divided their families, and even the town they lived in (Hatfield v. McCoy-esque even), these men hated each other so much they are buried as far apart as possible on their family burial plot, on just trivia alone, their collective story is amazing.

I think you’re missing two big things. You show the chart around 2:22 of the huge increase in sales over the last 3-4 years. In my opinion, this is because of two things - Kanye West and BOOST technology. Kanye introduced boost and since then boost shoes have become by far the most comfortable shoes in the world and some of the most fashionable and coveted among sneaker heads over the last few years. Great video - just wanted to add that.
