Adidas has the best branding logo - 3 stripes. They fit naturally into shoes, trousers and hoodies alike.
Nick Dzink that’s true! 👍
yep, I don't like wearing clothes that explicitly show the logo of its brand but with adidas is different, the 3 stripes logo is so clean that it barely resembles a company's trademark
Nah nike does
Adi Sharma Nike for shoes but adidas is better at clothes
Nike make better trainers/sneakers and clothes
A video on puma would be good.
noice
yeah, it would be cool to hear about his brothers shoe company too
I heard they were made by the brother of the guy who made adidas.
I prefer panther
Liam McIrishman how interesting. I heard that somewhere.
Squats in corner in Adidas, hardbass plays in the background.
Abibas
blyad
сука блять!
The Sconne Trapper Ah the cheap black market adidas knock off 👌
Noemi Rios feet flat on the ground
The original originals, samba, gazzelle, superstar, Stan Smith, styles are instantly recognisable and never go out of fashion just like a pair of Levi's
I probably bought around 10-12 pairs of originals and superstars since early 90s. And yes, Run Dmc were the main reason I bought first pair, but I continue buying them because of quality and simple design.
Love gazelles so much. I've had 4 pairs and they're my go to sneaker!
In Romania in the 90' Adidas was so sucesful that nowdays the name adidas literaly means sport shoes in romanian languague
Adi Dassler: "I want to rebrand the Dassler Shoe Company now that Rudi's gone. I'm thinking something like 'Adolf-Dass'."
Mrs. Dassler: "Um... 'Adolf' probably isn't a great name to use right now."
Adi: "Oh, right. Adi-Das it is."
ha got em
imagine rocking the new "adolfdas" shoes.
Timothy McLean it should be “I did ass”
Adi was his nickname, that how he got to the brand name
Franziska Irma Giglberger ohhh
It’s okay Europeans pronounce Nike as naik it’s an unstated rule that we can mispronounce each other’s companies
Like Doge Ram?
Greeks pronounce it the right way. You Americans just pronounce it the wrong way as well.
well you dont call a bike a bikee
Christopher Holmes They don’t pronounce it “naik” lmao. They pronounce it “Ny-k.”
i just pronounce it the way it’s spelled
I'm surprised you didn't mention much to their iconic branding of the 3 stripes. I think that kind of genius and simplistic brand recognition has helped carry the brand for years. They also stuck to classic designs and a "European" look that was huge in the 90's when athletic companies were exploding.
One word: Yeezy...
Also their creation of the Boost cushion tech has been another major factor in their recent boom in popularity
Yeezy really made boost big, him having that triple white ultra boost before everyone and wearing at the 2015 VMAs, then making 350 v1’s with boost.
He was the adidas saviour.
6:17 Adidas actually bought the three stripe logo in the early 50s from a lesser known shoe company in Finland for the equivalent of 1600 euros and whiskey.
there is more about this- and why the logo is what it is as well...
Oh those Russians...
LOVE ME!!!
Justin Y. Oh course, justin, blame it on the russians.
No slavs
Justin Y. first time you didn't ask about yahoo
Justin Y. Amigo? Coma esta? Tu es bien no?
Wow, i actually had no idea Adidas was supposed to be pronounced that way. I pronounced it the same way you do throughout the video.
I'm very familiar with the brand logo despite not really being that into sports or shoe fashion. This was fascinating to learn about the company though. :)
Not really into sports or shoe fashion either, but it is fascinating how big it's gotten as a company
Sailor Mercury The english pronounciation of Adidas makes me slightly agressive
Günther Hinnen haha, yeah but we pronounce nike right
NI-KEY named after the roman godess of victory
The "correct" way was the only way I ever knew, and I am born and raised in the US. My parents said it that way, which is why I say it that way. It wasn't until the RUN-DMC thing that I heard it the other way and maybe that is why the pronunciation changed.
Günther Hinnen we say it the correct way in the UK as far as I know.
And I'd like a video on Puma
You missed Stan Smith's (tennis player)
wilson vwl classics
Adidas is known for tracksuits and Nike is known for their signature shoe brand.
I wear both.
Boost man, boost is amazing.
Mainly soccer, soccer player made then popular
At the same time 😂
But not at the same time.
@@neilgibbons2532.... true, then tennis.
can you do a video on pringles!
Yes, I would like to.
"I think Pringles originally wanted to make tennis balls. But when a potato truck showed up, they were like screw it, cut em up!" - Mitch Hedberg
Company man, I think you should make a video on Huawei.
Huawei = Chinese Shit with internet infrastructure that lets a bunch of communists in the PRC spy on people in places like the UK or possibly the USA
wclifton968 no one has been proving that's real. Everyone says it but i haven't seen any believable evidence. They all collect more information than we really notice and it's all dangerous to give away. I'm just tired of wild claims with no visual evidence. I don't believe anything without some slight evidence.
+Andrew Ament I know. I was making fun of the scenario.
Yess
On second thought I don’t really care about Huawei anymore lol. Maybe do something really notable, like Lexus or Whirlpool
*I want to make a joke about Adidas Track pants, and russian soundcloud rappers. But I can’t think of one..*
What's a soundclap router?
uh i smohk ull dai boi. i wer ahdeedas trak puhnts.
Liam McIrishman whats a soundfap rooster?
Mish-I mean search soundcloud yourself!
All the pieces are here, you'll think of something
This might be my favorite video so far. Puma would be great. Sticking with shoes, Doc Martens?
Great video as always, and I would love to hear more about Puma (this was my first time learning of them). Also, that Audible ad was legitimately really well done. You expertly empathized and connected with us while giving us loads of info on the service. I hope you're proud of how well this channel is going!
Appreciate it Sammy. I'd be crazy to complain about how well things have been going lately.
I'd love to see a Puma vid, especially with them signing a ton of NBA players this year. They came out of nowhere to get a good portion of the top draft picks.
Basketball shoes are more performance-based than ever before. Today's basketball shoes are NOT the most fashionable and stylish. Nike's most successful shoes are retros from the 80's and 90's.
They need some breakthrough product that other companies will need at least a year to copy like boost or flyknit. Just marketing won't make me budge to buy even a $10 polyester shirt from them since I'd be loosing bonus points for my next sneaker purchase from Nike or Adidas.
C0110 they’re also making good moves in the football/soccer market striking deals with Man City and La Liga
Most Americans got the pronunciation of Adidas from Run-DMC.
This couldnt be any more true. Lol we are americans lol
Or Korn maybe?
They make really good shoes. That's pretty important.
I’ve been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now trying to view them all. I’ve seen 3 stills of Kobe after his passing and man is it hard. Thank you for tossing him in. Thank you for sharing all of this interesting history.
I feel like you downplayed the run dmc part that was most recent in the event to happen. An hip hop happens to be one of the most influential markets to date. That's my opinion.
Yeah Nike was kicking there ass
I think its the opposite. Most of the world were not influenced by American rappers. The video was very US centric. The reality is Adidas was one of the few sports brands, really the first sports brand., and they sponsored most of the biggest teams in world sport.
This is a pretty intresting video. You know what else will be pretty interesting? A video on the rise and fall of Yahoo.
there is one from someone. ruclips.net/video/5DpspOXs1rM/видео.html
Definitely interested in a Puma video. I've always found corporate history fascinating. Its amazing how many companies have common origins and how many others are the result of dozens of mergers, acquisitions, and buyouts.
Everyone knows what “adidas” means?
“all day I dream about sex” 👍 true story.
all drugs I do are satisfying
Yep, that's what I remember people saying when I was younger :)
Jason Cannon lol

Make a video on Heelys
Lit Bro omg hahahaha yes
Huh? never heard of it
@@disneythomas2018 You are a bit too young to know.
Brief history of Adidas's logo according to Finnish Wikipedia:
A company called Karhu initially used three tracks as a symbol, even before Adidas. The Adidas founder, Adi Dassler, bought the symbol in his shoe to use the three-stripes mark at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 because Karhu had used the mark before them. The symbol was purchased with a sum of EUR 1,600 in the 2011 currency, plus two whiskey bottles.
When I was a kid, I officially knew my grandma was old when she said Jesse Owens came to her school lol like what?
Gotta love Adidas!
Avery Lopez-Baines Que volà asere!! Saludos desde 🇵🇷
Avery Lopez-Baines I have a pair; best shoes I've ever bought; my feet are somewhat wide for a guy of my size (I'm so skinny you'd expect me to have thin feet, but I don't), and if I wanted to accommodate for my wide feet with most brands of sneakers, I'd have to get a pair that are too long to fit my width; I'm looking at you, Nike! And I don't have the kind of money for Jordans, sooo... ya. Plus, the other pairs I got would wear out in six months; these are holding out very well, and I got them back in January. Besides, I wanted to go pretty simple and not be very flashy.
Wtf I see you here too, wtf
No
Well obviously I want a puma video
Yes
You can always look at national geographic
I wish you talked about the reason behind their two logos. I was looking forward to that.
ft. Life of Boris
Can you make a video on why/how Quiznos went under?
I second this.
Subway>quiznos there can only be one (Hides firehouse subs and Jerseymikes)
Elgin Rose a few of them are still left, but most have closed
@steve b lol
I forgot about Quiznos
Adidas is one of greatest brands of all time.
Love your videos, they're some of the most informative videos out there!
Keep up the good work
Really appreciate it.
You should do a video on VF Corporation. A few of their subsidiaries include Vans, The North Face, and Timberland.
This was posted before my birthday and my favourite brand is AH-DI-DAS.
One word explains it all. Russia.
M'aiq The Liar no slavs
M'aiq The Liar ah but what do you know?
((hard bass intensifies))
“M’aiq is tired go bother somebody else”
Adidas is one of my favorite brands, and I think it has a lot to do with Korn. I used to love their music videos and the lead singer, Jonathan Davis, wore it all the time.
This was one of your best ones ever. I really really really enjoyed it and on top of it, another thing that makes Adidas the way they are, is the shoes last twice as long as Nike's. That's why they probably don't have the number 1 spot, because you don't have to buy as many during the year. I think unfortunately that kind of cuts the mustard in the wrong way, but it is true ask any real athlete.
Coming here from your new Nike video the improvement between this one and that is huge.
Appreciate it. I'm pretty happy with that Nike video but sadly it hasn't gotten too much attention. Guess more people are interested in Adidas.
How did Lufthansa Group get so big? New topic for your videos. 😄 Great video!!
Hey there Companyman, have you considered doing a video on Moviepass? I, as well as some friends, signed up and subsequently dropped them due to all the problems they were having and now they seem to be in the news every other day. I would love to hear your take of what’s going on with them
I read a rumor that the Dassler brothers started having a fallout because while Germany was getting bombarded by the Allies, one brother and his family went to visit his brother while they were having dinner. Then the Allies started bombing again, and the host brother said something along the lines of "here they come to bother us again", referring to the bombings. The other brother misunderstood this as an insult to him and his family and they had a big argument.
Funny how Hitler was more accepting of Owens than his own country. Supposedly, Hitler sent his congratulations to Owens, but when he came back to the US, Roosevelt didn't even do that, no medal, no nothing, and he still had to find jobs to survive.
Reckless Roges Hitler sended a personal letter to Owens with a signed photo of himself (the Führer). Owen's sister confirmed this in a interview.
True. Very interesting.
I read that bunker story also, Adi was more supportive of Hitler than Rudy if i remember correctly.
Procter & Gamble should make a good "Bigger Than You Know" video ;)
3M, too.
Great videos! Please look into Puma when you have the chance, one of my favorite sneaker models is the Clyde.
The first time I ever saw an Adidas shoe was on the '70's TV show Starsky & Hutch. This was at the dawn of the "Athletic" shoe becoming acceptable footwear in non athletic areas of life. Shortly afterward many other manufacturers (like K-Mart) had 4 stripe knock offs of the Adidas running shoe Starsky wore on the show. Those 4 stripe knock offs were the first "gym shoe'" I was allowed to wear to school.
I would like to see your take on the Adidas/Puma rivalry
Adidas as well with owning Reebok they own CCM one the largest hockey companies because Reebok bought the CCM company before Adidas bought Reebok.
Didn't adidas buy the three stripe trademark from someone?
SNaikio yes from Finnish sportswear brand Karhu
Hey Company Man,
I’m a huge fan of yours, first time commenting. I recently saw a video of yours on EnRon, and it reminded me of HealthSouth. Being an Alabamian, it’s very interesting to me, especially seeing your genius on it. Thanks and Godspeed!
Hi, like your channel, I'm an Australian media graduate (basically an ad-man + studio gopher), I knew eventually when I clicked this Run DMC would show up; it's something we study in our advertising course.
Supremely simplified story: Adidas was simply not Nike, the poor man's brand: wanting Nike always gets Adidas. However because Adidas was so iconic with the hand-me-down culture of the poorer American communities (Why gangstas are always in baggy clothing from their older siblings) it simply made sense that Adidas was the brand that Run DMC as well as their fansbase identified with.
It did eventually spread the brand to the current point and, the poor-man Adidas became Celebrity related. Run DMC became the quintessential notion of selling out, but they grew each other's brand ridiculously. Even the Music videos look like and ad for the brand. And the story, well you covered the aftereffects pretty well.
I like your content, please continuing producing it, it provides an interesting view on how companies look in North America.
PS
I always thought Run DMC just sang Ah-DEE-dus as poetic license or make it fit into the beat of the song better, I didn't think Americans actually pronounced it that way. xP
can you do ATT next?
mymajc I agree. ATT and the deregulation of Bell Labs and how they've been buying up all those assets they had to sell back in the early 1900s.
ATT will take a 3 hour special.
He did it
Got a converse ad for this
Wonderful video! I think a good idea would be telling the story of how Apple became the first American company to be worth over $1 Trillion.
It’s kind of crazy that both brothers became that successful with there shoe companies. They must have a real talent in that family!
When i found out addidas owned Rebook i instantly understood how they made such good running shoes
I’d love to hear about Puma and how this brother broke away
from Adi Dossler!
Dana Cowles watch the movie
Short answer: Rudi was a Nazi and Adi wasn't.
Do the rise and fall of MMOs made for children, like Club Penguin, Webkinz, and Neopets! They made up mine and I'd bet many other's childhoods.

I for one would love to hear more about the split between the brothers.
For one, how did one of them apparently end up with the whole company while the other just walked away? Was there a big cash buyout? Legal shenanigans? The departing brother felt the loss was worth it just to get away from his brother, or what?
Nevir202 Rudolf Dassler just founded Puma and Herzogenaurach is now ,,divided“ between Adidas and Puma as they both have there headquarters there.
holy shit, just realized you’re at 330k subs. i remember not that long ago when you were only at 5k. good work
Great content. Keep up the good work 👍
Adidas was mostly sport centric, but with Kanye their customers expanded to much more than just athletes
Adidas already had an expanded market before Kanye West, but I think the murics follow people like Kanye West to discover other brands.
adidas wouldn't be main stream without kanye
Gucci bop it lol are you dumb
lummx why do people like that idiot so much ?
@@W-2Forms stop it dude just look at adidas before Kanye west & then after ! It's clearly obvious
I take a month break from this channel and I miss the most important video yet...
Is big because Gopnik Supreme!
About Puma: he started his factory in the same village
When I was in junior high, you could always tell when someone was in a soccer club when they were decked out in adidas.
I apreciate the bit you did at the start
in Poland we call all sport shoes "adidas" so they are popular here
Boris bought adidas..
Please do the Puma "spin off" video. :)
Great video as always!! Your videos are some if the most informative ones I've came across. You put a lot in such a short timeframe and it's impressive!
Great Video, both brands are great!
Also, Can you please do a Video on Nintendo?
Really disappointed that you overlooked Kanye West and the yeezy boosts. He’s a big reason behind the increase of sales in the last 5 years.
Culture Vulture increase in America everywhere else it has always been big
I got nothing but Underarmor ads during this video.
funny, I always pronounced Adidas AH-dee-dahs... but was corrected to Ah-DEE-dus
In Scotland we pronounce it the same as America too, just letting you know.. I don’t know if mainland Europe does though
You forgot Stan Smith!
Also, Freddie Mercury wearing the adidas Hercules in mid-80's which is a wrestling boots because it probably was comfortable for him to wear when he runs around the stage a lot!

At 3:24 you say that the company was called "Dossler Brothers Shoe Factory", but the brothers were called Dassler not Dossler ;)
The Adidas/ Puma rivalry is pretty interesting. They each had/ have factories in neighboring towns and it causes some tension between them that is kinda funny.

A look on Adidas Wikipedia page reveals a treasure trove of information, especially into how much the two brothers ended up hating each other, which divided their families, and even the town they lived in (Hatfield v. McCoy-esque even), these men hated each other so much they are buried as far apart as possible on their family burial plot, on just trivia alone, their collective story is amazing.
Great vids, watched your Vans one too. Would love to see one on Converse and PF Flyers!
I was just sitting around doin' nothin' when I suddenly sprung up and shouted "OH MY GOD, I need to go watch Company Man."

I think you’re missing two big things. You show the chart around 2:22 of the huge increase in sales over the last 3-4 years. In my opinion, this is because of two things - Kanye West and BOOST technology. Kanye introduced boost and since then boost shoes have become by far the most comfortable shoes in the world and some of the most fashionable and coveted among sneaker heads over the last few years. Great video - just wanted to add that.
Company man could you do a video on New Balance? They’re one of the few companies that still manufacture shoes in the US and are still privately owned since 1906
How did Adidas get so big because they make good quality shoe the same thing with Pumas.
I got adidas shoes then stepped on a nail and it went through the shoe and into my foot
that is your fault for stepping on a nail idiot
well yeah its a shoe not a work boot.
Girls think that Bowling shoes are cute. That's how it got so big.
Another informative clip! Thank you for your great efforts! Looking forward to your clip about "Rudidas" (Puma). Who knew.

I'm glad you addressed the name pronunciation as it's weird to hear how it's pronounced in the US compared to the UK and Europe.
