Pardon the late reply as been off for a stint, but quite a few of these older bootlegs went out of their way to really emulate how the official boxes looked; newer bootlegs despite having easier boxes to clone seem to actually miss a lot more details and frankly seem to be very much worse in quality a lot of the time.
Thanks for the video. Years ago, when I use to draw, a friend of mine asked if I could draw a character for any anime series. What series would I pick and what kind of character would you make? I replied with, I like a lot of anime, I don't know which I'd pick. My friend said, ok, how about DBZ? I told him I'd make a female Saiyan, with hair similar to Android 18. Maybe I will get one or two of these bootlegs and make that character from them, if I can.
Interesting series, I hope you will continue and post an update soon. I like the idea of fixing up bootlegs. Is it possible to put the 2.0 head on the 1.0 body? Almost seems like that would be the best route to go.. I also wonder if you could take apart the arms at the middle and attach the 2.0's white arms to the off white joint (which you could paint) and also switch at the shoulders. The white isnt a huge deal really but just a thought, the main thing would be the heads as the 2.0 is just superior... you could also look into purchasing some Figma joints for the 2.0 maybe grab something smaller to give her arms less length and the wrists less bulk. Cool series, hopefully you do another one soon!
Hello there; I do actually have an unexpected update in mind due to a recent discovery but have yet to properly record and edit my findings. Regarding your joint question, it strongly appears that the 2.0 joints are 3rd party rather than poorly casted versions of the originals so they are not readily interchangeable without further modification. I have considered replacing the 2.0 joints with figma or hobbybase joints, but have yet to find a reasonably local area to purchase any of those for testing purposes.
Where can I get either of these figures? Or at least, make sure I know which figure is which before buying it? From what I understand, China bootlegs usually will slap whatever photo they want on the advertisement for the knockoff, so it can be quite tricky to know which one you get before you buy it.
Unfortunately, there is no surefire way to ensure that you are getting a specific version short of reviewing all available photos provided with the auction/sales page depending. I've had some limited success by looking for more eBay sellers with good feedback that appear to use less professional photos or also showing items out of package, meaning it is likely a better representation of the item being sold.
The underlying problem is that most sellers will not make the distinction; I quite literally purchased these both through the same seller I believe and got two different items. Your best bet is to check any provided pictures and make sure it has a closer match to the version you are looking for prior to ordering.
Funny enough, I was just about to leave a reply on the past video directed to you; seems that the joints used are for the most part not interchangeable, but I am currently looking into whether or not the joints in the neck and head can effectively be swapped out to take the head from the new bootleg and place it on the old body which kept all the original styled joints.
@@ManyNinjas Yeah this new bootlegs are kinda weird, just get a goku black, but this one actually got pretty good faces, but the body is complete different from the original, exactly like the tenshinhan bootleg
Wait, if I'm understanding you correctly, then those newer bootlegs are also using modified/simplified versions of the joint system? If so, then perhaps whichever factory is churning these out is actually doing so as a cost saving measure, as the more generic joints are probably both more readily available and does make for a few less items to cast compared to the more complicated joint system of the real figures.
@@ManyNinjas Yep but also the quality of the casting and the faces are way better than the normal bootleg version, the kinda useful, for example goku black got amazing face plates that can be use for a custom bardock
I feel the original bootleg's faces could be improved just by virtue of getting the decals placed correctly, plus removing some of the odd reddish paint shading that is a poor fit. Currently working on a vector recreation of the eye decals for her and a few other odds and ends here.
Trying to reply to hidden comments as I find them: I think I came across that same variation when I got another copy on a lark, can't recall if I made a video of that one off the top of my head but the parts they use for her bootlegs seem to have changed a handful of times now.

Newer one has different waist , its skin color of 18
