    Great video! We were camped about 5 miles outside a Port Townsend for a month (mid May to mid June this year). I had my first Pasties at Tommy Knockers (so I can’t compare and contrast), but they were terrific! The staff was so pleasant…and the food outstanding. We went back to them a few times while in the area. If that is what UK Pasties are supposed to taste like…well…sign me up for more!!

    Brilliant video. My husband and I have hitchhiked both directions of the Pacific Coast highway, top to bottom and back twice and driven it 3 times. It's my favourite place on earth. I've been all over Canada, USA and 12 countries in Europe...and I still say it's my favourite. It's something about the cliffs and water and the feel of the freshest winds on my skin. Heaven on earth. It's lucky for me I like rain 🙃. I enjoyed this so much I'm watching it again. Sucks about the loss of your fishing rod and your wound....I hope you a speedy healing...ya big baby. It was quite a while ago now and I'm sure things have changed in the past 10 years. We camped on the beaches and in the forest with our little orange tent...so glad it was orange. One night we didn;t find a place to pitch the tent and we finally found a clearing near a town...much after dark. We had a great sleep until about 7 am when we heard all of the noise. We looked out of the tent to see all sorts of construction vehicles moving around. We had camped in the middle of a construction site :) The workers were so nice and bought us coffee from a coffee truck. Watch out for the sneaker waves!

    To see the look of surprised glee on your faces at the most north-westerly point of this vast country was priceless. With an unexpected milestone completed on the way, now on to more adventure and the big purpose of this massive expedition. Those painful bits, (yes Ben, I would have been a big wimp too, besides the fact that usually the most painfully excruciatingly ticklish spot on my body has always been my feet! So combo pain ugh!), along the way will likely pale in the grand scheme of things. I do wish you'd found Sasquatch because then I could have boasted that I have friends who made an historic discovery, so be it, scratch that. Happy that from the last vlog the kids are back with you loving on them. Great to see you settled in the van groove once again with new things to see around every twist in the road or feel on the rolling sea. Bon voyage once more. Onward. Hugs and ear scratches for whoever lines up for either or both. Much love from CT.😘😘🥓🥓🚐🌎

    @15:30 - I live in this area. Yes, if you don't stay up on cutting back the bush it will completely consume everything. More importantly we have to keep on top of cutting down trees or they will break off and fall on our house. I swear, sometimes I feel like the flora is attacking us.

  • @revyera

    I heard from someone once that you could compare north america to europe. Each state in the us is so different, maybe like its own little country, honestly. Your comparison with the four corners really showed that honestly! Actually so impressive!
    I'm actually also super sensitive to pain, what helps is doing the cleaning of wounds myself. Somehow it doesn't hurt as much this way 😂

      I live in Canada and have been across the country several times and lived in four provinces. I’ve also been to Europe and many US states. I haven’t seen anything that compares to Europe. I wonder what state(s) they’re referring to? 🤔

    • @OverlandingSophia
      @OverlandingSophia  Год назад +5

      I think Jenny means that many States feel so distinct and different to each other, they could be different countries. Not that they compare to Europe culturally per se, but that the same way you cross many countries in Europe, crossing the State lines can feel like entering somewhere new! And we would have to agree. It's hard to believe Florida and Alaska are in the same country, when you look at how geographically different they are, the way of life, the culture there etc. Going to the 4 corners really highlighted this for us 💕

    Another fishing tip for Ben: the next time the sea gives you a dunk and steals all your gear, it just so happens you had just caught the largest fish you've ever seen and you lost that, too. 😉👌
    Fun fact: Sasquatch saw me on a hike once, but no one believes him. 😞
    The waterway between Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula is the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and all the shipping traffic to & from Vancouver, Seattle, Tacoma, et al travel thru it. Very busy, and quite treacherous!

    You are a great story teller. If you are stuck for a day waiting for a ferry then Fort Casey is a great place to be stuck. Hopefully you went up to see the disappearing guns, from the Second World War, up on the hill. My wife and I always go down to Fort Casey, in our small fiberglass 5th wheel, storm watching in Feb. and stay out on the small spit in the campsite by the ferry terminal there. It would be nice to camp just anywhere like you guys do but a trailer is not at all stealthy! As a kid, back in the sixties, my mum and dad would always take our trailer up to the moors in South Wales and Devon camping but I doubt you can do that nowadays. We stayed so many times in a spot up by Breckon Beacons that the local milkman would drop off milk for us while we were camping!
    It's great to see genuine young people like you getting out, seeing the world and really enjoying yourselves and then documenting your travels in a down to earth way for all of us. Take care.

    • @OverlandingSophia
      @OverlandingSophia  Год назад

      We saw Fort Casey but the park was closed by the time we rolled up! But great shout to hang out there. South Wales and Devon are the gold standard for camping back home! Minus Scotland of course 😋 They recently had a land owner try to ban wild camping on Dartmoor, which was the last place in the UK you could do it. He succeeded, but then got the ban overturned on appeal after huge uproar from the public. So, you can indeed still go and camp in Devon! And thank you so much for the kind words 💛 🥹

    Can’t say we’ve been to all four points, but have not done too badly in our U.K. camper travelling by backroads, small towns and public swimming pools. From Charleston to Big Bend NP, Mid America, back to Tucson, out to Hearst Castle and now in Canada heading East the US is an amazing place. Canada is proving great too, hoping to get our B2 visa reset so we can cross back into the US, if not will enjoy Canada and home from Halifax. Safe travels!

    You could have left Whidbey Island on the Mukilteo Ferry and driven south down I-5 from Mukilteo to the Edmonds-Kingston ferry only 30 minute drive, and then only 30 min ferry crossing, taking you over to Kingston on the Olympic Peninsula. There are no reservations needed on Edmonds Ferry and the sailings are every 50 minutes. The entire trip may have taken 2 hours at most. Far less than waiting as a you two did.

    Congratulations on 4 corners!
    Enjoying some whisky on a Sunday evening in the Maritimes and worried a little about some luck I may have sent your way.
    When the fishing wasn't going so good, I offered some advice on a steadfast lure. By far, not the best lure for each application, but one to toss out there when you just weren't sure and had no other local folks to glean knowledge from.
    Well hell, I wished all of my luck onto those lures should you take my advice and now I have to ask, are you superstitious? I'm just a little stitious but perhaps inadvertently, I cursed you by wishing luck on those William's. (Was that the lure the local made fun of? My juju doesn't like to be made fun of). Didn't think it would come up here.
    My juju bites back by flipping boats over, hurting people and such. Dang, I just wanted you to catch a fish. I would suggest buying a cheap rod, tying a William's to it, and taking that first cast with it to let my positive energy run its course. Then try whatever the locals suggest. I think ignoring that positive energy I put on my advice is doing something I didn't expect and I didn't foresee it. It's bitter about being ignored. Sorry about that. Ha!
    Funny stuff.
    Great shots!

      @OverlandingSophia  Год назад

      Hahah dammit Pete it was you the whole time! 😂 Not superstitious but I am a little stitious has me in fits 🤣🤣 I think by casting aside (pun intended) the original lures, Ben was no longer protected by your good luck and was open to the elements of sharp rocks, rogue waves and had to make the ultimate sacrifice to Davy Jones - his fishing rod and new lure 🏴‍☠️ Back to the originals it is! 🔮
