Good job on the trailering video. So I am some what of a Jeep fan myself and usually have a CJ5 to go tear it up with around here. I kick myself every time I sell off a CJ! I do have a Jeep at the moment but it is not a CJ, It is a 69 Super Waggy which brings me to my next question. What gives with what I think is probably a Waggy of some sort in your garage? I suppose it could be a Cherokee. Thanks, Marc Spokane Wa.
good eye. :) We have a few projects on the channel and up to 180 videos on all sorts of things. The CJ is a 1980 that I built with the kids. The 1989 Grand Wagoneer was picked up a few years ago. (Currently broken) The 1997 12Valve 2500 has been the workhorse for well over 1.5 decades. The 2019 Tacoma OR Started bringing that up to good standards in the past year. And the Wife will not let me touch her car. :) Check out the playlists on the channel to catch up. ruclips.net/user/5LakesGarageplaylists Thanks for watching and keep the comments coming. :) I have a post that I will repeat soon. I am looking for questions for a Q&A. Get your questions ready. Thanks again. And good luck on your next CJ purchase.
You know. This is one reason why I love doing videos. if I get something wrong, we have someone to correct it. Getting the correct information out there is the important thing Thank you for your comment. You are correct. I just looked it up again and it is 10,000 lb breaking and 3333 lbs. working load. And the working load strength would be the most important number I will add a comment in the description. Thanks again for the correction and the watch.
Hey man I just picked a used car trailer and the trailer tire have some camber while hard turning on uneven terrain with a load. Is this “normal” for a tandem axle? Or are my axles bent? Otherwise the tire drive straight down the road with and without a load. Any help would be appreciated
Start by looking at the bearings and races. ruclips.net/video/mxnXzupZdLo/видео.htmlsi=zvjgK8zYVLE-fpGQ This video might help. if it is riding good but only looks wonky when going around curves, you should be OK as long as everything is tight. jack up that side and yank on the wheel to see if you can move it. When going around a curve under a load the tires slips on the pavement and is under a huge amount of strain. good luck and let me know how the bearings look.
@@5LakesGarage bearings look great. I’m going to actually replace all the bearings this weekend and repack them with some good grease. They were a little loose. I also talked to trailer Smith here on RUclips and he says it’s normal for the tires to have some camber because they’re supposed to be able to flex especially true trailer, tires. This allows the tire to take the load versus the bearing when turning. Makes sense. My predicament now is removing the bearing Reeses. They are proving to be a great PIA.
www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200451251_200451251 I got mine from Northern Tool. Axle straps They work great. Just don't lend them out to your buddies. they don't make it back most of the time.
It all really depends on your setup. My Tacoma for example. Stock it is rated at 6500 lbs. (I believe that is too high and would not go over 5k) Engine is a 3.5L out of a minivan. (Junk with Low end torque) I have modified it with larger tires and lift which makes it worse. So now I am about 4500 lbs that I feel ok with. I plan on doing a re-gear soon to get it back to about 5500 lbs My Dodge 2500 12v. I have not felt that I have gotten close to the limit. Engine and suspension is one thing, brakes are very important as well. When I am towing a trailers that is over the weight of my tow vehicle. I like to have a break controller with trailer brakes. Electric for road trailers and a surge brake for a boat trailer. ruclips.net/video/hLre5zWS4GQ/видео.html Your truck manufacture should state a good starting point.
Mac's Custom Tie-Downs
I have Heard of Mac's. I might need to upgrade this video. We have upgraded a few items and making towing even better.
Thanks Scott.
