Thank you Joe, Seth, and Jennifer! Enjoyed the concept of using photographic "building blocks" by a master to create a visual treat. Kudos to all!

I live in Tennessee and once or twice a year I visit my favorite camera store Adorama where I buy all my equipment. This time around my visit was (accidentally) at the same time as Joe's and Daniel's classes. I truly enjoyed them. I'm so grateful to Adorama to keep organizing these classes and I hope they continue to do it. It is one thing to watch it on line but quite another to see it live. Thank you so much.

Absolutely superb session - it was presented in such a relaxed, humorous and informative style which places a photographer and model at ease. Great explanation of principles related to lighting set ups, especially in a fairly tight space.
    Thank you!!

Thank you Seth for bringing an icon of the contemporary photography to the set. Could you guys comment on the position of Jennifer's eyes in the sweaty profiles? In my work I have been criticized for showing too much sclera 😔. Kudos to Jennifer.

Joe, great presentation as always. However, you have to do something about your breathing, your mic picks it up. Next time, try to breathe a little quieter in between your talking, or ask Seth to monitor the volume on your mic.

Hi Joe, She's not moving at all so why use a shutterspeed of 1/1000? It makes the lights work very hard and they're on battery power.

To demonstrate High-Speed Sync (HSS) maybe? A strobe or speedlight is like your SuperSoaker water gun that you and or kids play with. After fillin it with water (placing batteries) it needs to be pumped up before you can use it (called recycle, recycle time) to shoot water. Now a speedlight/strobe then can only fire once at full power.
And needs to be pumped again.
In HSS, the device uses the power reserve for one full power flash but evenly splits this into a sequence of lesser power flashes. If the camera decides it needs 5 flashes for the settings you caused, then each of those will be 1/5th (max).
So, no, it doesn't need to work very hard, but rather just do what it was designed for.
The speedlight might need less than full power and then that's what it uses.

I believe Because Joe initially wanted to shoot pretty wide open for more of a shallow look and that made the image susceptible to the ambient light we have in the space for the live stream so to cancel that out and get that deep black background he went to HSS
