Part of it is trial and error and what I've learned over the past couple of years doing recording and sound, but most of it is due to the equipment! The Pearl drums sound absolutely fantastic (especially considering they are low end/cheaper Pearl's and not even their nicer ones!) the Remo Pinstripe heads give me that awesome low end tone, the Shure mics do an amazing job & the Presonus interface is incredible for recording, especially for the price. Gear makes a huge difference!

Do eights on the hi-hat. Add in the bass on the counts. (add snare if you see fit) After you master that, begin adding the bass on beats in between your hi hat. So you have:
hh,b,hh. If you count music then it'd be: bass on the "e" and "u" of the sixteenths while the hi-hats are on the count and "&" of the sixteenth. You could also do the same thing but just do quarters on the hi-hat instead of eights. Take it slow then speed it up as you get better.

Awsome cover man one of my favorite songs of RJA and as a drummer you got skills... If i may give my opinion i would tweek up the bass on the kick and the volume on the master but again thats my opinion but other than that AWSOME!!!
