@@joeycampbell940 lmao i just said the same thing his is the first channel ive actually experienced it on...initially i was honored but now its just annoying
I always liked the quote by eren in the beginning, “I'll kill them, I'll kill every last one of them." I find it cool that he never specified that he was gonna kill the titans. Kinda like foreshadowing
Indeed. It doesn't matter who the "oppressor" really is to him. If he feels that he's being held down from what he believes as freedom, he'll seek to destroy them in their entirety. That complete leap he takes is what makes him so terrifying, since he will stop at nothing in accomplishing this goal if he has the power to or not. And, when he does have power like what we've seen, then shit goes down.
I mean… he never specified that he meant Titans, but he had no clue that humans across the sea were his enemy. There is definitely a ton of subtle foreshadowing in this series, but I think that you’re kinda reaching with this one. He’d made it very clear in season 1 and 2 that he wanted to wipe out the titans. If there was some indication that there were humans who were the enemies of the Eldians at this point, I’d be much more willing to accept this, but due to the ignorance of the Eldians at this point, I believe that you’re grasping at straws.
He really couldn't that's why he laughed he was helpless to do anything you shouldn't change the future no matter what it will ruin the outcome so he saw that and knew he couldn't do anything
Correct, when eren has an extreme realization that his actions are useless to saving those he cares about he laughs at his own weakness ( he did this when Hannes got eaten and he couldn't do anything about it
Yeah, I like the video, but him ignoring the crying to prove a point kinda made his bias a lil too obvious. Eren is a dynamic character at ALL parts of the story. It's not as simple as a villain origin story.
Eren did care about Sasha, I felt like he laughed out of the irony of the situation. Of the first time he met Sasha, she was obsessed with meat and food. And when he asked what was her last words it was pretty much that. You could tell he was crying too
That’s how Eren reacts to something tragic happening. When Hannes died he laughed like a maniac. He can’t handle people he cares about dying and he’s not laughing at the fact they died he’s laughing at himself. Despite having all this power he still can’t save the people he cares about.
Eren laughed because he saw Shasha's death way back in S3 when he kissed Historia's hand. He thought that he could change the future so when he heard that Shasha died he knew he couldn't.
The assessment that Eren didn't care about his friends towards the end completely ignores the conversations he had with everyone in the paths. You know the one where he lays out that by becoming public enemy number 1 he gave all of humanity a new enemy, gets rid of all titans, and even crippled all world militaries so Paradise has the time it needs to catch up to the rest of the world technologically. Eren didn't just decide we'll I have to kill everyone now. He waited and waited for a solution that wouldn't make him have to do that. He didn't choose revenge over his friends, or else he would have simply controlled all the Eldians to stop them from fighting back. He chose his friends over the world, even though he had to lose a few.
I love ALL of your content but yeah bro. You missed a key part in why he killed Willy Tybur and everybody else there… it was the whole world agreeing to attack Paradis. I use this as an example all the time. If your whole neighborhood hated you and made it quite clear they would NEVER stop attacking you, would you sit back and take it? Paradis has been getting pooped on for a hundred years and it’s all because Marley kept sending titans there. Eren lost his mom, his dad, his close friends, his sanity, and childhood because of hatred. The literally held a WORLD meeting about attacking Paradis. Eren did the only thing he could do to stop having his people be attacked after being attacked all their life. He knew he would be the enemy but like you said so yourself Nick, “He puts his friends above humanity.” He became the monster so his friends could be safe. Paradis gave numerous amounts of warnings but did Marley stop? Nope. They got the rest of the world to help attack Paradis. They were warned 🤷🏾♂️
Your example isn't exactly accurate. Its more like all the adults in your neighborhood hate you because you work at a company that can get anyone arrested. Would you then use that power to get all those people arrested, including their kids?
Bruh...he literally said everything he did was to ensure his friends have a long and "peaceful" life. He doesn't just kill anyone and feels nothing. It's those that take away others' freedom that he feels nothing for or despises das why he still cries and feels guilt for murdering everyone else
he lied. he did not have to kill 80% of the worlds population and decimate entire ecosystems to give his friends a “peaceful” life. he was just a piece of shit and if it didn’t directly harm his friends that was all that mattered. eren is a bad person but that’s what makes him a good character
And what people don’t wanna mention is the fact that they went to Marley and they attended the meetings there, those people had no interest in negotiations they wanted to commit genocide on Paradis. Erin took the only options he had to reset the cycle of hatred.
Idk think about as an eldian or as Eren. These people from across the ocean seemingly hate us for shit that happened centuries ago and are actively trying to kill the island even before forming the alliance against the island. It made no sense why Eren would just stop at 80% and let some people from the outside world live. There is obviously still gonna be hate in the world since there is still the opposing side. The manga even showed the cycle repeating so Eren sacrifice meant nothing but 100 years of peace when it could've been peace forever if he just wiped out the remaining 15%. (if you wanna count paradis as 5% that's at least how I'm looking at it).
@@aloox395 He left the other 80% but it’ll be difficult for them to invade paradis also people from paradis are the ones that stopped Erin so it’ll much better to use him as a scapegoat.
I feel like you missed that Eren did care when Sasha died, he had the same reaction as to when Hannes died. He laughed at himself for being unable to save someone close to him, he essentially had a mini-mental breakdown.
First off, even though I don't agree with a lot of the video, I appreciate the analysis that you have provided. I think AOT can be seen in a lot of ways, and not one reading is by default bad or good. That being said, I don't think Eren, or any other character outside of maybe King Fritz, can be seen as a "bad person". The story to me is more of a narrative about generational trauma and how it can impact people even when not realizing it. Throughout the story draws parallels to multiple generations of individuals who were unable to surpass the pain and harm inflicted to, or caused by, of their ancestors because of actions taken generations before their own. To say that Eren "could have" changed his fate and decreased the number of dead is not quite an accurate reading to me as well. Eren is not a "good person" by any stretch of the imagination at the end of the story, but he was also 19 years old and a child solder who likely didn't know any better (even if we ignore the causality paradox of him knowing the consequences of his actions at a certain point in the story). He had seen, for his entire life, his family, friends and others die, then was forced with what he thought was a reality that he would not be able to prevent it from occurring. Then he found out that he would have a limited amount of years to live and likely wouldn't even survive to see a peaceful future he wanted as a child. To say that we can mark all of those actions as him being a "sociopath" (when you typically cannot diagnose that until adulthood) is a bit of a stretch to me. Should he be seen as a savior? Heck no, he killed upwards of 80% of his planet's population. But he never had the chance to truly have the opportunity to determine if he could change his fate and be someone like Naruto either. He was trapped in the paradox of wanting the one thing he could never touch until he was gone.
Had the same thought process! Especially the points about eren being the “bad guys”, “sociopath”, and just all the past experience he went through as a kid. Like who can you label a “good guy” in this show? 😂 if anything I think he is an overly emotional person and at this point is numb to it all (instead of going the split personality rout)
I’m pretty sure protagonist and antagonist have nothing to do with morals. I think they just mean lead of the story and challenge to the lead of the story.
I feel like you overlooked thinking it would be easy-ish for Paradis to covertly end the war with Marley and the world with little amounts of deaths. You mentioned Eren and crew could have just killed the Marley parties responsible for Paradis being attacked. The allied forces tried to assassinate Hitler all the time, but were unable to do so. Also, killing leaders doesn't always lead to a downfall. When the US kills terrorists overseas way too many civilians get killed in the crossfire, and can often galvanize/strengthen said terrorist groups. The allies carpet bombed and killed hundreds of thousands of German civilians. They also sentenced to death any Nazi soldier who killed someone, regardless if the circumstances led to it being involuntary. While those killed German civilians is still objectively less wrong than committing a Holocaust, there isn't a 100% universally good party there. There isn't typically a simple way to end a war without too many lives lost. Long story long, war is garbage. Unfortunately, there isn't usually a Naruto way to bridge the empathy gap between 2 hurt parties at war. Lots of shades of black, sometimes grey.
I really like your analysis. I just one issue and that's that, no really, Eren cannot control Mikasa. He straight up lied to her so she would be angry with him. At this point Eren had been getting good at half-truths, he knew about mikasa's headaches from living with her, but when he asked Zeke, who a student of one greatest Titan researchers if he ever heard of his Ackerman hypothesis, he said no, they seem unrelated and that she probably does care deeply about him. The only thing different about Mikasa is her combat ability, not her mind.
I think that's exactly what he wanted, he knew he'd need an Ackerman. Since Eren didn't see a happy ending with Mikasa in the paths, he tried to make a long enough peace for his friends
Eren was never a villain, because a villain is someone who wants to harm somebody because he is either mentaly ill, or he has bad reasons. But Eren didn't have any of that. He did all of this so his friends and dear ones could live, so it's better to asume that he was an antihero not a villain, because he was a hero who wanted to do something good no matter the methods
At the point of the story where Eren joins the military to kill all titans the titans aren't looked at like people. They're mindless monsters that kill and eat humans just to kill, not needing to eat humans to survive. So I feel like him wanting to kill all titans is justified at that point in the story. But genocide is still wrong lmao.
Erin kissing Historia's (Royalty) hand gave him the Timeline Vision, so he recognized killing the Reiss family and saving Historia is the only way that he could activate the power himself. If not, then his first vision would be touching Zeke, which would change the entire story. Also, You watch your mother die, you make a choice. He chose vengeance. Revenge is Human. Human adaptability always resorts to survival. If giving someone else that knowledge can completely change history (because we know simply sneezing on someone can change a timeline) he doesn't know if he survives or not. If I'm Erin i'm always betting on myself, especially when I have a goal since 9 yrs old. also, lol. If i was BETRAYED BY ALMOST EVERY FRIEND THAT I SWORE TO PROTECT AT EVERY ELEMENT OF MY TEENAGE LIFE, MY VENGEANCE WOULD EXASPARATE TOO
Eren gave his friends a good happy life that they never would have had had he not killed the enemies and the outside world was their enemy . Marley was using the Titans for the very same thing that the Eldians did. Technology caught up to the Marlians and the Titans were becoming obsolete . That's why they wanted the founding Titan so bad. "Humanity will never stop fighting itself until it shrinks to a size of one or fewer". Erwin Smith
That technically doesn't mean he's not the protagonist. The "protagonist" doesn't have to be the good guy, it can simply be the main or most prominent character the story follows..which is Eren 🤷🏾♂️ still, love the video 🔥
Would love to see more Attack On Titan videos. I know it’s not as vast and intricate as Naruto and maybe harder to make more AOT videos but they would be cool to see even hypothetical situations in some videos. But great content like usual
You did an excellent job but I can’t help but feel that you missed a really key moment in erens decision. That being the meet with all the world leaders and they all declared eldia as the true and only enemy. With that said Erens mind was made up entirely at that point hence him storming out of that meeting. That to me was a very pivotal moment I would have loved for you to touch on because that moment itself was a very defining moment… to me lol otherwise excellent job lol lmk whatcha think
While I do think some of Eren's decisions were pretty fucked up, I don't think you could really blame the guy. The way I see it, anyone would've done the exact same thing if they were in his shoes.
Great and well planned out analysis. My only gripe would be when the world decided that Paradis was their one and true enemy. Even if Eren went back through the paths to try and stop the deaths of his people, it wouldn't have brought them any closer to peace. While the Coordinate and the Attack Titan were missing, Marley would've kept sending their soldiers and might to Paradis until they got it back or completely obliterated the Eldians on Paradis.I do believe (without spoiling the ending) that Eren knew the truth at the end of Season 3 and was waiting on a better solution but there wasn't any. Genocide is terrible, but what would've been the better solution when the entire world, (of which Paradis had no knowledge, no weapons, and no transportation so they were sitting ducks,) saw you as a threat and wanted to eliminate you? It sounds terrible, but I would've chosen my friends and loved ones I was raised with too, everytime.
At around 10:10 there's another possibility. Grisha could have the ability to choose freely if he gives the titans to Eren or not; and he decides he will do it. Why? Idk, maybe to protect his son, maybe he thinks Zeke could change stuff, but we don't really know if Grisha has a choice or not
In this kind of world, you have to ask "did anyone actually do what they wanted, was anyone ever free since ymir gained the original titan." (Spoilers, I think?) Kinda yes and no. Ymir definitely had influence on the eldians through the paths, all attack titan inheritors fighting for freedom i.e. Eren, and her forming every titan shifters form. Eren also had influence on the immediate end of the Titan Era, being able to see all the ways his life could end but none showed his happy ending, saving his friends, and keeping Paradise safe. He could only set a path that could save his friends and ensure peace long enough for them to enjoy it.
Well I think the obvious answer is that when he found out Carla was eaten, he chose to follow Eren's plan and destroy the world, hense avenging Carla. The reason why he begged Zeke to stop Eren is that he didn't want anyone dead. But when he found out that his beloved one was eaten, he was caried out by anger
Anyone who says Eren is a sociopath or has not empathy has no knowledge about Anti-social Personality Disorder. Killing men that destroyed someone’s family with no remorse is most definitely not abnormal for a huge amount of humanity. If someone killed someone you cared about just to steal some money most people would not have a second thought about hurting them.
I’m so glad you made this video!!! I have been telling my homies forever that Eren is just a sociopath. It’s obvious. He’s not an anti hero. He he’s the protagonist of the story that happens to be its biggest villain. Protagonist also can just mean the main character. I think we forget that.
I’ve honestly always thought Eren was villain because of his choices. I wasn’t surprised at all he really is angry and revenge driven right off start. Good Video!
I'm not quite convinced that as the founder Eren could have altered the events from his own past before he officially obtained the founder... I agree that once he had the founder he absolutely could perceive and alter the entire history of Eldians. But he couldn't change things like the fall of the walls because altering too much in the past would have changed the series of events that lead to him obtaining the founder, which is why he only did things like providing visions to young him and his father
I do not know about this video a decent amount of information was wrong. 1) Eren did care about his friends and Paradise island he says in the anime and manga you even see evidence that supports this. When Eren father tells the holder of the founding titan in the Reiss family to use her power to protect Paradis island she says that the Eldians deserve to be killed off (even though she herself is a Eldian) Eren is showing pissed off listening to her say that. 2) You failed to mention that Marley and the rest of the world knew that the Eldians had there memories erased yet they still killed and tortured Eldians for fun and would turn them into pure titans and send them off to Paradise island to kill the people there. 3) Marley started war with Paradise island first as they sent Reiner, Berholdt, and Annie to Paradise island looking for the founding titan. Which resulted in them kicking down the walls killing thousands of people including children. So Eren attacking Marley was a retaliation strike.
One thing I can’t recommend enough is when you talk about an obscure or one off side character you should have a picture of them on screen so we know exactly who you’re talking about.
I’ve been watching for a long time now and i will say, you have gotten much better at the snack reviews. they used to be PAINFULLY obviously read off of a script but now it’s getting a little better
You're overlooking the facts that eren hid the memories of Carla dying from grisha, because that would be the thing to force him to give eren the titan. Plus overlooking the fact that, eren waited for armin and hange to find some sort of way to fo this diplomatically and. eren only gives up the search after seeing the party that wanted to spare Eldians hated and wanted Paradis dead. Only then does Eren fully decide to enact his plan. Do I think eren is right? No. But we can't overlook the out of character efforts he took to avoid this outcome. He sets Paradis free by not killing the rest of the world, but killing 80 % and making it a fair fight for people and the others by also taking away all titans. Eren isn't gonna be Naruto, eren doesn't have enough time to find a solution before he dies and before his homeland is killed. Nor will he be itachi and sacrifice his people for the world that's hated his people.
Thank you! People are thinking he should be some "Naruto" and talk no jutsu. The world is a harsh place and he couldn't find a solution that would end happy for everyone. Zeke's plan wouldn't have worked either cause Marlians and the alliance were dead set on destroying Paradis. Eren is Eren and he did what he felt was best.
he is a sociopath, but i feel he pulled a lelouch see me as a villian endgame plan. where lelouch made everyone hate and despise him for killing his father taking the throne and planning a live execution of his old crew.
I mean there's also the train scene where Eren says he still truly cares about his friends. I think he's doing all this because he sees it as the only way to protect them
Prior to that scene, Eren was hoping that some kind of piece could be reached diplomatically. That couldn't happen so Eren knew what had to be done. And that was the moment Eren lost his smile, except when they all got drunk in the tent. However, Eren made one last attempt to change the future and that's when he asked Mikasa how she felt about him.
This is a very well constructed argument but It feels like you were purposely not giving information about Eren that goes against your argument. But hey it’s not a fan theory if it’s believers dismiss evidence against it.
So, I haven't even watched this video yet, however I can say that.. Eren's character clearly always foreshadowed what he would become, and i mean VERY PLAINLY foreshadowed. From the moment he stepped onto that first boat after his mother was eaten by Dina Fritz, he stated exactly what he would become - "I am going to kill them all, every last one." What we didn't know at that time, was that Titans are in fact, humans, and he did attempt to do just what he said he would from the very start.
I saw a video by Sages Rain on Eren and his tale was that when someone tries to threaten or take Erens freedom, Eren will take their freedom permanently. His goal isn’t killing anyone specifically it’s about being free, but Eren sees the whole world is in the way of his freedom, so he will take their freedom from them permanently. I do agree that Eren cares more about his own goals however I do believe that the people around him are special to him, he even said so himself that they were important to him and that he hoped they would live long lives.
Okay, I'm gonna watch the rest of it before making this comment, but I would like to point out a few things. Eren's main goal was to be free with his friends, that's why he tries to destroy the titans. He doesn't know everything when he's a kid, but he had saw everything but can't understand/remember. And then you have some bad writing and character development that forces some plot changes (like the whole Ackerman situation and the other 7 Titans), when the summary of the show was quite simple: - Eren changed the past to save the future. He realizes it when he's older, meaning that every move he' s made during his entire life was built by himself to meet a certain outcome. Every struggle, every decision, every sacrifice that he though it was his choice was simply a move that he engineered before/after. - Ymir chooses/acknowledge him in the beginning and offers him a few options, including leaving with Mikasa and being "happy" until his end, keeping the cycle running, thus making sure that Paradis and his friends lives are not safe. And; - Ymir's curse is to love her master unconditionally and that curse is given to Mikasa. If Mikasa can break this curse and not choose Eren, Ymir can take the Titan powers away and rest in peace. There's a load of "convenient" plot points, like Zeke's power is a sudo Founding, Historia being set as a breeder for a safe reset point, Eren picking up Warhammer titan just for the giggles (or to make sure they can't claim they were responsible for the victory), new powers being created out of nowhere (like colossal explosion, female's and jaws absorbing abilities) and, the biggest of them all, Attack Titan seeing the future. All of them are retconned. Other thing, the fact that Eldians are brainwashed to believe that they're an enemy, that Paradis needs to be destroyed and the Founding Titan needs to be in control of Marley and their entire life objective is to serve as cheap meat because they're undeserving demons TALKS A LOT ABOUT YMIR. Another major point about Eren's genocide plan comes to the position in which Paradis is. If he had followed Zeke's plan, he would commit genocide to end Titans. If he simply stopped Titans from existing, he would've put Paradis on a destruction path. Germany WAS invaded, Japan WAS bombed and it was all to end the WW2. His actions with the rumbling are extremely disturbing because you see people dying in horrible ways. But you also see the boy's village being locked out of the gate and left to die. Eren had to be evil enough to guarantee that Eldians would finally be free. Also, we actually don't know for sure if Paradis is safe after the manga ending, so...maybe he should've destroyed everything, we will never know.
Ymir cannot control every eldian. Eldia conqeured and destroyed her village, but ymir herself is not of eldian descent. When ymir was alive she couldn't control anybody because she was the only one who had the power of the titans. Meaning she wasn't linked to anybody at all. It was only after death that this power to 'control' people was manifested. And you could only control subjects of ymir, not all eldians. --------------------------------- Eren could not send information back in time to tell people that Bertholt and reiner were the colossal and armored titan. There is nothing special about this. It's simply that the founding titan can not do that. The only reason eren was able to influence the future by looking at past memories is because of the attack titans power to see the future. The founding titan will be able to control every subject of ymir in the present, but not send messages to past subjects of ymir. And going off topic here, even if he did send messages to the past to tell people the armored and colossal were reiner and betholt it wouldn't help his current situation. ------------------------------------- Eren didn't tell people his coordinate power was activated when touching Dina fritz in season 2 because he didn't want historia to birth babies solely for the purpose of eating their parent's spinal fluid. It would be no different from Marley making them eat each other. Plus, he doesn't want historia to feel how he felt when he learned he ate his own father. Historia doesn't have to turn in to a titan to be able to let eren activate his founding titan powers.
As incredible evolution Eren Yeager has Ben undergoing, one thing I cannot figured is why can’t he changed Fate since he witnessed future memories of the attack Titan’s power. Was he unable to because it was all let.., or was Eren unable to do it because he can’t go against his own nature; his own desire? Either way, I do not like him being a villain in the end.
After watching this and the previous video, I am reminded of why I started listening/watching your videos on Naruto and Attack on Titan. You've educated me and have blown my mind. You've also made me realize and understand situation's in AOT that I didn't fully comprehend myself. I have only said this about one of other person in my life and now I'm saying it about you, But I like the way your brain works, more or less.
You should do a video on Toji the only person to ever push gojo past his limits. He’s basically the reason why gojo is considered a god in the jjk universe now. But I’m curious on gojo once he gets out of the box
Well Eren can look into the memories of the Eldians but not influence them he was able to do this to GrIsha Yeager because he posses the ability of Attack titan which gives him the ability to see into future and he was able to exploit this ability of Attack titan in order to influence him.
Eren is the protagonist. It doesn’t matter if he is good or bad, he is the main character. “Antagonist” is the person who opposes the main character. If the story is about captain hook, then that makes peter pan the antagonist, even if he is the good guy.
Slight correction about the scope of Eren's power: his ability to see the past is limited to the memories of the lines of Titan Shifters he's consumed, and his ability to AFFECT the past is limited to former Attack Titans. Armin also has the ability to see Bertholt's memories when he becomes the Colossal Titan, which confirms for us that ALL shifters can see the memories of past holders (including the Attack Titan). Meaning that while Eren has a lot MORE memories to work with than most shifters - having consumed the Attack, Founding, and Warhammer Titans - he can't see the memories and past of ALL Eldians. The fact that he can AFFECT the past is actually a shifter power interaction that is entirely unique to Eren. The Founding Titan doesn't give the wielder total control of all Eldians past, present, and future; it gives them the power to metabolically and subconsciously control all CURRENTLY LIVING Eldians at the time of the order. If that wasn't the case, nothing the Founding Titan could do would matter because any future or past Founding TItan could undo it instantly and effectively nullify their will, and/or reshape the present at their will by controlling a specific Eldian in the past. The reason why inheritors of the Founding Titan were enslaved to King Fritz's Will was because receiving it put them in contact with King Fritz's Memories, which connected them to the point in time when Fritz gave the order and thereby enslaved them to it. Without royal blood, inheritors don't get access to the power, and therefore they were never made subjects of the order at all. HOWEVER, Eren doesn't just have the Founding Titan, he has the Attack Titan, which connects wielders to the memories of past AND FUTURE inheritors. And that means that Grisha, the Eren Kruger, and all other past Attack Titans are directly connected to Eren's memories, allowing Eren to issue commands to them as long as they possess it. Making Eren the first and ONLY Founding Titan to be able to affect the past, and ONLY through that one line of shifters. Doesn't change that Eren is a bad person and did kind of incept himself into getting these shifters, but this explanation DOES clarify why Eren doesn't do a lot of seemingly obvious things with your interpretation; he simply can't.
Oh, man. I’ll start by saying the narrative clearly says Eren is in the ~wrong~, but there’s a lot of context you’re either not adding or artificially adding. 1. Eren isn’t a sociopath. He’s doesn’t fit the definition at all. Eren clearly possesses empathy and fits into most social norms. Idk what definition of ASPD you’re using, but it ain’t one I’ve ever heard of. This isn’t a debate about themes; he just doesn’t fit the definition. 2. The universe of AoT is deterministic; he can’t go back and change the past outside of what the universe has determined he does, and you flip flop between this at multiple points in the video; you apply it to Grisha, but you don’t apply it to Eren earlier in the video. I know that people have a pretty visceral reaction to the lack of free will, but that’s part of the larger point of the story. Eren is what he is, just like Armin is who he is. They have no control over it, and this is directly referenced at multiple points in the series, such as Eren’s conversation with Reiner. We identify with Armin being the one in the right because of our nature and experiences that were outside of our own control. We are who we are. Everything is what it is, and Armin lucked out that this is largely his viewpoint - appreciating everything that is. Eren can’t do this because that isn’t who he is, and he recognizes this, so the person that he is attempts to make a world for Armin that Eren believes is most free in his own warped way. Determinism makes anyone thinking about it redefine choice. Choice isn’t conscious. 3. Eren already probably saw the rumbling in the dream given to him by Ymir in chapter 1, and there’s evidence later in the chapter that he knows, at least subconsciously, what’s about to happen when Bertholt and Reiner broke the wall. We don’t know when or if he was able to fully contextualize the dream, but we know that he had at least seen Mikasa killing him all the way back in chapter 1. 4. Reiner is definitely a foil to Eren, but I think you’re missing some of the scope here too. Reiner never grows out of wanting to be a hero in the same way that Eren never grew out of the need to fight for freedom. Eren will always need to fight for freedom, and Reiner will always strive to be a hero. Both are warped and will reason with their actions in order to justify their motivation. “Everyone is drunk on somethin’” 5. You’re absolutely wrong in the conclusion. Eren is for sure driven to fight for freedom, regardless of the body count, but reducing his motivation to just that is superficial, and it goes against multiple plot and thematic points, such as Eren clearly looking for an out when he asks Mikasa what he means to her. Isayama even goes through the trouble of imagining a whole different universe (since this one is deterministic, so you can’t just change this one) to show us exactly what would have happened if Mikasa told Eren how she felt. This universe dictated that Eren would never feel the warm love that Mikasa got from him wrapping the scarf around her neck, Reiner felt from Gabi and Falco, or Annie felt from her father (weird one I know). The whole series deals with culpability and how we both frame and process it. By the end, all of the characters we follow in the story come to understand this, and it’s why they’re so broken up after they kill Eren. They knew that this was the path he was always going to follow no matter what, but they still love him, and Armin even goes as far as to thank him.
This show is more complicated than people want to believe. It's why there are many opinions about it but I feel it ended in the way it's supposed to end. Great comment ✨
hey nick, is there enough information to make a video on Utakata? I don't remember if he was filler or not, I keep putting off my rewatch, but he was one of my favorite characters
You‘re wrong about how time travel works in AOT. The timeline is fixed, but Eren still flows with the time. He cannot talk to subjects of Ymir in the past - the reason he was able to talk to Grisha is because of the Attack Titan‘s powers. The current holder of the Attack Titan has the ability to send memories to past holders, meaning Eren couldn‘t send memories to his past self. Pre-timeskip Eren saw memories of Grisha that Grisha received from future Eren. Eren was only able to go back in time once he unlocked the full powers of the Founder.
Eren was totally the good guy. Marley fucked around and then they found out. If Marley had sent people to stop their titans from destroying Paradis the way the Survey Corps tried to stop Eren, maybe it would be equivalent ... but they didn't. So fuck 'em.
this is true they both did something that killed others to save their home and their people so it's stupid Reiner got more hate when Eren does the same thing

I always liked the quote by eren in the beginning, “I'll kill them, I'll kill every last one of them." I find it cool that he never specified that he was gonna kill the titans. Kinda like foreshadowing
whatever keeps him from being free. Hahahah
Facts!!!!
And he says it again in S4
37:57 this is wrong. He laughed because once again he failed to change the future he saw not because he didn’t care
THANK YOU.
He really couldn't that's why he laughed he was helpless to do anything you shouldn't change the future no matter what it will ruin the outcome so he saw that and knew he couldn't do anything
Thank you for correcting his misinformation.
You could tell he was crying too
exactly... I've actually had a similar situation irl and laughed hearing the terrible news. Idk why its just how my brain reacted i guess
Eren's fate sucks. There was never going to be a right answer to his life and he got to physically see that.
Right I was like he tripping when he said that he don’t care about his friends like did he read the manga😂
He chose revenge and his friends. The free will given to his friends to stop him and the freedom for him to carry out his plan of revenge.
Spot on
Well said
You nailed it 🔥
There are a few references to this theme, specially with erwin saying he needs to be the devil, and berthold saying "someone as to do it"
Your example isn't exactly accurate.
Almost as if people have more than one motivation.
Saying eren didn't care when Sasha is so wrong, because his reaction is the same reaction he had for Hans without the tears.
In the manga there was tears

Eren: Who's the final Enemy of the series?
*Pieck points at Eren*
*Eren Yeager*
Season 1: Kill all Titans
Season 2: Kill all Titans
Season 3: Reason with Titans
Season 4: Kill all enemies.
Actually Season 2 is Learning about Titans.
If Zeke hadn't arrested Grisha, then Eren wouldn't have existed.
I’m pretty sure protagonist and antagonist have nothing to do with morals. I think they just mean lead of the story and challenge to the lead of the story.
Yep, exactly. An example, in Death Note Light Yagami is the protagonist but it's clear as the story goes on he's a villain.
Someone who actually undersrands.
"Lots of shades of black, sometimes grey."
A bleak but far too often true outlook on our world and it's history
Exactly this is literally the plot of Aot war is the antagonist and both sides are wrong but think they are right
I really like your analysis.
Damn, incredible that you turned 3+ hours of work into a 40 minute masterpiece
Wish I could take all the credit but my editor is huge in that process
Eren was never a villain, because a villain is someone who wants to harm somebody because he is either mentaly ill, or he has bad reasons. But Eren didn't have any of that. He did all of this so his friends and dear ones could live, so it's better to asume that he was an antihero not a villain, because he was a hero who wanted to do something good no matter the methods
Eren Yeager represents us in life. We all are happy children only to grow up and deal with the harsh cruelty of reality.
get some women dude
Touch some grass my guy
Yeah but eren wasn't a happy kid.
Just get some original take, NPC @jacobstewart
No no he doesn't cause most normal people have good morals that you where raised with.
Eren's favorite words are "Fight!" and "Freedom."
His favorite sentence is I’ll kill them all
after watching all of this… it just solidifies in my mind that eren of the great mc of all time and he’s the hero
Erwin Smith
I felt like the least Eren could've done was impregnate Mikasa before he died. 😂
Nah, he impregnated Historia before the ending was changed. It's too bad Isayama retconned his own story.

That technically doesn't mean he's not the protagonist. The "protagonist" doesn't have to be the good guy, it can simply be the main or most prominent character the story follows..which is Eren 🤷🏾♂️ still, love the video 🔥
ya, the better wording would be that he's an antihero
If only Eren can physically time travel. He'd be the Future Trunks of Attack on Titan.

You did an excellent job but I can’t help but feel that you missed a really key moment in erens decision. That being the meet with all the world leaders and they all declared eldia as the true and only enemy.
With that said Erens mind was made up entirely at that point hence him storming out of that meeting.

If people actually read the dam manga properly they would see why Eren started the rumbling all the evidence is there.
Damn, that moment u realize you’ve watched the villains coming out story.
Imagine Eren's mom Carla was just waiting for Eren on the other side.
Eren's the person who would go far to take away his enemies Freedom.

“Only a Sith deals in absolutes” Nice comparison
Anyone who says Eren is a sociopath or has not empathy has no knowledge about Anti-social Personality Disorder. Killing men that destroyed someone’s family with no remorse is most definitely not abnormal for a huge amount of humanity. If someone killed someone you cared about just to steal some money most people would not have a second thought about hurting them.
A sociopathic hero who ends up wanting to destroy the world. F-ing brilliant. Man I love this show.
I would love to hear your take regarding Light and Lelouch. Feel that would be a great watch.
Everyone watch out for a scammer account trying to impersonate the youtuber of this channel.
i wasnt aware that eren could talk to any disciple of emire i thought it was only attack titans he could talk to
35:03 Yeah, he called them hypocrites and monsters, but he also noted to Reiner during his initial attack on Marley that they were the same after all.
Great vid as always! Your channel is quickly becoming my favorite. Can you do one about Mikasa, Levi, and the Ackerman clan as a whole?
I mean there's also the train scene where Eren says he still truly cares about his friends. I think he's doing all this because he sees it as the only way to protect them
Prior to that scene, Eren was hoping that some kind of piece could be reached diplomatically.
That couldn't happen so Eren knew what had to be done. And that was the moment Eren lost his smile, except when they all got drunk in the tent.
However, Eren made one last attempt to change the future and that's when he asked Mikasa how she felt about him.
Bro the 360 intervention shot almost made me crash my car laughing lmaooo
Sasha cuts are gold
This is a very well constructed argument but It feels like you were purposely not giving information about Eren that goes against your argument. But hey it’s not a fan theory if it’s believers dismiss evidence against it.
That quick shot of Sasha being taken out on COD was kinda triggering 😭😭😭
So, I haven't even watched this video yet, however I can say that.. Eren's character clearly always foreshadowed what he would become, and i mean VERY PLAINLY foreshadowed. From the moment he stepped onto that first boat after his mother was eaten by Dina Fritz, he stated exactly what he would become - "I am going to kill them all, every last one." What we didn't know at that time, was that Titans are in fact, humans, and he did attempt to do just what he said he would from the very start.
Great video as always!!! Could you do analysis videos on Floch and Gabi? Also, the Zoldyck family from HXH and characters from Chainsaw Man?
I saw a video by Sages Rain on Eren and his tale was that when someone tries to threaten or take Erens freedom, Eren will take their freedom permanently. His goal isn’t killing anyone specifically it’s about being free, but Eren sees the whole world is in the way of his freedom, so he will take their freedom from them permanently. I do agree that Eren cares more about his own goals however I do believe that the people around him are special to him, he even said so himself that they were important to him and that he hoped they would live long lives.
Carrying the anime community on your back bro, stay winning! Sending love and support from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Okay, I'm gonna watch the rest of it before making this comment, but I would like to point out a few things. Eren's main goal was to be free with his friends, that's why he tries to destroy the titans. He doesn't know everything when he's a kid, but he had saw everything but can't understand/remember. And then you have some bad writing and character development that forces some plot changes (like the whole Ackerman situation and the other 7 Titans), when the summary of the show was quite simple:
- Eren changed the past to save the future. He realizes it when he's older, meaning that every move he' s made during his entire life was built by himself to meet a certain outcome. Every struggle, every decision, every sacrifice that he though it was his choice was simply a move that he engineered before/after.
- Ymir chooses/acknowledge him in the beginning and offers him a few options, including leaving with Mikasa and being "happy" until his end, keeping the cycle running, thus making sure that Paradis and his friends lives are not safe. And;
- Ymir's curse is to love her master unconditionally and that curse is given to Mikasa.
---------------------------------
Eren could not send information back in time to tell people that Bertholt and reiner were the colossal and armored titan.
-------------------------------------
Eren didn't tell people his coordinate power was activated when touching Dina fritz in season 2 because he didn't want historia to birth babies solely for the purpose of eating their parent's spinal fluid.
We smoking on that world pack!! Pro Eren all day
Pro Paradise island.

Rumbling, Rumbling!
Beware!
Coming for you!
Killing your kidnapper is not murder, and does not make you a murderer.
Ayeee I’m currently watching AOT and I’m on season 3!! I’ll like this video. Keep up the good work!
*Eren is the best written Anime protagonist of all time*
Chapter 139
TALK YO SH**
Why do you have to be dumb
You should do a video on Toji the only person to ever push gojo past his limits. He’s basically the reason why gojo is considered a god in the jjk universe now. But I’m curious on gojo once he gets out of the box
it's nice to see you expand into other anime, im down for all anime you want to talk about dude
Am here, as it drops
you'll be surprised about the ending lol
Well Eren can look into the memories of the Eldians but not influence them he was able to do this to GrIsha Yeager because he posses the ability of Attack titan which gives him the ability to see into future and he was able to exploit this ability of Attack titan in order to influence him.
Love the video and keep up the great work nick
Eren did care about his friends and loved mikasa. In the manga it goes into it
A good video would be how and why the walls are set up the way they were
Eren is the protagonist.
I know you asked you edited to do the clip but I ain’t think y’all was gonna do it😂😂😂
“Everyone is drunk on somethin’”
Armin was my favorite character💯
This show is more complicated than people want to believe. It's why there are many opinions about it but I feel it ended in the way it's supposed to end. Great comment ✨
Gresha gave the Titan power to Eren because if he hadn't Marley may have gotten one or both of the founding and attack titans when he died.
Most anime characters develop their resolve as the story progresses eren already had and understood his own resolve from birth
You can't start off the video by saying people misunderstand Eren's character and then misunderstand his reaction to Sasha's death
👏👏👏 Exactly. He did the same thing after Titan Dina killed Hannes.
Ive noticed he likes to omit a lot of things. Things that are relevant.
Absolutely LOVE your content! Amazing vid!
Bruh almost got me…. Fake account made 4 days ago….. mannnnnn got me good 🤣
Time to do a follow up now that the anime is done
hey nick, is there enough information to make a video on Utakata?
I always learn something when i watch you
Eren and Reiner are two sides of the same coin.
this is true they both did something that killed others to save their home and their people so it's stupid Reiner got more hate when Eren does the same thing
I think time travel just makes a lot of plot holes naturally.
its really hard to right it without fucking up.
Hey man, I love you videos. I do have to say though you cut always are so much louder than you are. While hilarious, the one if this video also tried to pop my ear drums 😅 Can you look into that for me?
