It sounds like her voice is naturally deeper but she sings at the very top of it and its really interesting because I've never heard anything like that before
That's called a Falsetto! : ) You can hear similar techniques in songs by the Bee Gees (A good example of this if you haven't heard of that band before is "Stayin' Alive", but a good chunk of their songs use this technique). They're pretty common in disco records from the 70s in the U.S., although I'm not sure how common in Japan.
BASS. Seriously, just about every single one of these bangers has an absolute bumpin bassline, and has the bass very present in the mix, unlike a lot of western music where you can barely make it out.

Was at H&M today and all of the sudden they played this song, I nearly freaked out cause I've been listening to this one for several years now, anyways it's refreshing and good to hear such beautiful music being played somewhere in public for once, especially because it seems to be so rare to hear 80s city-pop over here
I heard this song so many times that you'd think I'd be sick of it by now, but nope, not even close. I don't know the lyrics, but I sing it in the shower, or while I'm driving my car, or doing the dishes, etc. It's just such a catchy beat and she sings it so well I have to imagine that if they played this regularly on the radio here, everybody would know it by heart.
Panaesthesia, or the mixing of sensations. It's technically the perception of a stimulus thru another sense, like tasting a color. I, too, get certain associations locked into songs, ones that aren't obviously connected. Kinda cool and part of the fun, isn't it?
If you like bass like that, you should check out "Parliament". Since the Japanese used a lot of different music influences and mixed it all together, I can imagine that the bass hails from funk. Parliament is more chill though.
The song is called "Refrain" by Yurie Kokubu and was released in 1986. Just incase anyone is interested or cares! ;).
