Great job madam! My grandmas and aunties have been canning forever, and I’m happy to see people getting on board to preserve their own food! Tips for beginners: if your jars knock around in the pot, place a small towel in the bottom of the pot before adding water and jars, this will help protect them. When you’re done boiling the filled jars, and they’ve cooled down completely, MAKE SURE that the lids are sealed before storing. Sometimes lids fail to vacuum seal properly and this will cause food to spoil. To test the seal, press the center of the lid, there should be no sound or movement. If you hear a sound when you press down, or the lid moves up and down, your jar isn’t sealed properly and will need to be refrigerated not stored on the shelf. Happy canning everyone!!
Host of "Homesteading with the Zimmermans" RUclips channel said that water is to be filled up to the point of the food in the jar and not over the lids (which could cause leakage) which is what her mother and grandmother did. Very pleasant video. Thank you from America.
Thank you nanaaba for these great canning tips I love canning its so comforting just like making bread. These canned mackerel look delightful. What a treat . Enjoy!
i really apreciate the clarity of this video, especially your emphasis on saying BOILING water. most of the other tutorials i saw on youtube were just saying hot and not really specifying much else.
Wow, I havent ever canned before, I thought it was a hard thing to do. But you show that it really is easy to do. So I will give it a shot when I make my Chili, etc. Great video thank you.
Very informative, I’ve learn more than a thing or two. You actually inspired me to can and I started by canning Hausa Koko 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing and doing your sister Madame things wai, PH levels nyinaa, na where is my science teacher, I bet I skived the lesson koraa😂😂 Very detailed indeed 🙏🏾❤️❤️
Hahahaha 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣 you this sister of mine 33hhh 😅🤣 I was so happy when you canned Hausa koko! Who ever thought!!!!!! You also inspired me bebreee paaa!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I have been watching videos on this and find it fascinating. I have a question as you've already cooked the stew once you can and sterilised it again, would the fish become overcooked?
You need just a few minutes. Why you go longer is to make sure that all the contents of the jar is at least 100c. Otherwise only the contents close to the glass will be boiling
Thank you so much. I am 65, alone and grew a garden this year due to high price of food. I went out and bought all my canning items today but was so afraid of the bacteria. You explained this so well. Great presentation and concise.
Your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL! Your video was so pleasant, so clear and concise. I learned a lot of what I need to know for my second canning session thanks to you!! I am definitely subscribing for more :-)
Thanks for sharing sis! I’ve been experimenting with canning chutneys for a while. I find that after the canning, the mason jars do look a bit chalky ( for lack of a better expression) 😀. What I tend to do is wait till it’s cooled completely, and then I use cotton balls dabbed in some vinegar to clean the jars before storing.. it returns the jars to its glossy state.. but hey! I’m sure you have a hack for that… just thought to share what I do😌
This is absolutely amazing and so interesting to learn the tips. Thank you so much for sharing 🤗🥰I perceive the aroma of the mackerel fish stew from the screen 😂
Sure! Typical Jam recipe is equal parts fruit - cherry to sugar, lemon or lime juice, optional pinch salt, cook on low medium heat, while stirring, till fruit is broken down into jam consistency, and sugar is dissolved. For acid amount, use 1 tsp to a cup of fruit.
Should I put the lid on tightly or a bit loose before I place it into the boiling water? And should the pickle/ food be cold or hot while it's placed into the jar? And won't the glass break when you boil it for 45 minutes? I'm asking because I don't know and don't wanna make a mess.

Excellent! But why 45 mins? Why can't 10 mins or even 5 mins? Is that the time germs get killed? How about food over cooking? Any tips on that?

Can plastic containers be used where there are no glass jars?@@larseriksson1184

You're welcome! I'm so glad you found it helpful. 😊
Does the 45 min boil not cook your food more? Seems like it would over cook it. Especially meat. Or is it just simply the process of canning.
This was really helpful.
I love it!!!! and love your voice!
Wonderful, my friend.

Great to have found your channel about canning. So a simple pot will do, it does not need to be a pressure canning machine / pressure canning pot?
Hi!
Thank you for sharing this. I am curious though as to how long the shelf life of the preserved goods with this method?
More videos like this please 🙏🏻🩷. I did not grew up seeing my family doing this 🙏🏻☹️.
I want to learn.
Thank you.
May I ask... why don't you have a rack on the bottom of the pan to keep the flow under the jars? I learned it that way and all canning-pots have them.
Thats really great! Thank you! I have one question tho. Wouldn't the food overcook, and would the flavor be affected?
Wow nice tip mam
Wonderful
Very informative, thanks for sharing ma😍
The video was very helpful, what kind of items do you recommend canning??
Tks for the video. Do you put them in the fridge or not?
Good presentation
can i make dishes, like beef stew, candy carrot and can them after they are cooked?
Very informative. Can I ask how long can you preserve food with that process?
Oh thank you so much my Sister Nanaaba. Have a cerise tree(cherry tree in english l believe. Any ideas on how to conserve and make jam please?
