  • Something I find very important to practice for my business is the theory of "community over competition". The business world as a whole can be very competitive and cut-throat, with every man looking out for themselves, but I believe the craft world shouldn't take this approach. We will all succeed much more if we look out for one another instead of just focusing on ourselves. I don't think my business would be what it is and where it is without my fellow indie dyer friends around me, and I hope many of them feel the same.
    Businesses I mentioned:
Through The Wardrobe Yarn Co: throughtheward...
    Skein & the Stitch: skeinandthesti...

I loved the conversation about sharing other yarn dyers. I wouldn't have found Giddy Yarns, Castleview Yarns, Through the Wardrobe Yarn Co. and The Fibre Fox. I love the support of one another, and it means I can support all the dyers! :)

Aanii from Ontario❤🇨🇦 ❤ I adore your videos. I look forward to vlogmas every year, I schedule time to watch no matter how busy I am with my Crafts. I love your laugh, it's so cheery it makes me chuckle. I'm so happy to hear about the support you have in your community. We do the same in our indigenous crafting community. We talk techniques, suppliers shows etc. We all make slightly different things or colour schemes. It's healthy to have someone you can talk to about the craft!

Daily check-in: I love the advent colorway. It's stunning. I love that the fiber arts community has this lack of competition. I've definitely started following other makers and dyers because of your posts--I got the Twilight collection from Through the Wardrobe Yarn Co and the other dyer (sorry I can't remember her name right now) because I saw it in passing on your stories. I'm proud to be one of your US customers and I probably talk about your yarn weekly at my local yarn store. You were my introduction to the hand dyed yarn community and I've grown so much as a fiber artist in this last year because of you. ❤️Thank you for being so committed to community and helping me grow. ☺️

Back when I was dyeing yarn more regularly (lots of life happened and sales tanked, whatev. It's fine.) I was having a hard time getting a good solid color. I asked a few of the other local dyers that our shop carried and no one wanted to help me (trade secrets blah blah blah) until I asked one person who did primarily solids and did them well and she told me to add the same amount of non-iodized salt as citric acid and boom: solid colors. It was amazing and I was so grateful to her.

I think promoting and supporting other small businesses is something we all should be doing. Sometimes it is only through promotion that we come across and find other channels and businesses, and as a matter of fact, I’m new over here after hearing about the channel on another Vlogmas video (could have been Helen @GiddyKnits/Yarn), and your Legends and Lattes yarn drew me in further as I LOVE that book and subsequent new series. It is all about community and I see it a lot in the small selection of fibre art channels I watch, and it’s lovely.

An international lurker here since you were in Germany. Have some new chromatic yarns and some when you first started out dyeing. I think this video sums up makes you someone to support its your transparency and the way you support others.

Such an interesting glimpse into your business. I do agree with what you say and more businesses should follow your example. Gorgeous colours in today’s advent yarns.

Love those stitch markers...so stinkin' cute. I agree with promoting other businesses. We do it here in our small corner of world as well. If we don't have something a customer needs we try to send them to someone who does and it doesn't matter how similar the business might be. To me, it's just makes good business sense. You hope they will do the same.

Hannah, I loved this - your kindness. generosity and humour come across in such a lovely way. I really enjoy your videos - your ability to find something to giggle at and your non sequiters -make for such a heartwarming and uplifting interval in life. Your colourways are beautiful and you deserve to do so well. I would much rather my hard earned money (retail work) be spent with someone kind and hardworking and knowing you are like that surely makes for more sales. Anyway, felt moved to write (I rarely comment on any videos) but wanted to add support to your continuing to be as you are; keep being kind, supportive and generous and your business will definitely grow. I'm loving these first 2 days of your daily advent and excited to open the weekly skein tomorrow! I love the community you've built and continue to build. It's visible in your work and chats, which is why (I believe) you're successful.

Colors are all beautiful! My pup loves helping me open your advent! I carefully open it and she puts her nose in the bag to see if it’s good.☺️ so she sees or smells it first. ☺️ I’m speaking cause I lost my voice. Lol. Community is everything and is more stable.☺️ love the tiny puddings.🥰

Hannah Darling. I feel terrible because I have absent from the socials including RUclips because I have been not buying yarn and also haven’t been in a great place. I’m so glad I decided to watch your Vlog today! Chin up, I love your yarn and progress keepers, I love your Podcasts and Vlogs (when I am watching) and you are totally adorable! 🥰 ❤😻

yes to all that you had to say about creative community! I need to find a group on discord to help in the same way you mentioned - for my creative pursuits (ceramics, bookbinding, etc). You absolutely are a helpful sharing person and give that vibe, there are definitely folks I have watched in the past who most assuredly do not give that vibe... blessings.

I loved this and your community chat. Having been on the receicving end of an unkind comment on you tube I appreicated this even more today. I love the idea that we build each other up. Thank you Hannah for sharing this. (Also its my first year finally getting one of your advents and its stunning!!!) XXX

Oh I feel you so much about being a lurker. I NEVER interact (especially in discord servers lol, but also in YT comments). I comment like 3-4 times a months, and it's usually to complain... I am always scared of bothering people. I know it's not the case and i'm probably overthinking it, but I just don't want to waste people's time. Thank you for this though, it makes me think maybe I SHOULD interact more!

I love the sharing other dyers. It's like if I come to you and say "I'm looking for X, is this something you an do?" and then if you can - yay for you. If you can't but you know someone who can, then yay for them and it's you sharing the love but then (I hope) if someone goes to them and says the same thing, they'd be like "Oh I can't help you but I know who can help" I love being able to support and share small businesses even if it's just a shout out when someone asks for recommendations. Spreading the word is important too!
