- Genesis 10 is also know as the Table of Nations, because it lists the descendants of Noah’s three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. These sons and their families became the founders of many nations and peoples that spread over the earth after the Flood.
Genesis 10 shows us how God fulfilled His promise to Noah to multiply his offspring and fill the earth.
The passage is a genealogy, a list of names and relationships that shows the ancestry and descendants of a person or a group of people. Genealogies were common in the ancient Near East, and they served various purposes, such as establishing identity, legitimacy, inheritance, and authority. Genealogies also had theological significance, as they revealed God’s providence, faithfulness, and plan for His people.
