    Interesting feature which I just noticed, at 0:57 the French dub includes the words attributed to Cambronne, "La Garde meurt mais ne se rend pas! (The Guard dies but it does not surrender!)."
    Whereas in the English version he simply replies, "Merde!" And nothing more. Internationally from France, other countries (namely Britain which had monopolised history at this point) do not acknowledge that he ever uttered those words etched upon his statue.

    • @loands
      @loands 9 месяцев назад +6

      Actually, Cambronne never said these words. He recognized this himself few years after the battle of Waterloo saying « I don’t why I would have say this, I surrendered and I didn’t die », which makes sense, he’s not wrong haha. Some rumors say that these words would have been prounounced by another soldier, but it’s still a rumor.

      @@NapoleonProduction Actually, It is not true. Greece fell to Rome, but we know the history of the ancient world from the writings of Hellenistic authors, and our worldview was largely shaped by Greek philosophers. Rome fell under the onslaught of the barbarians, but the legacy of the Roman Empire predetermined the further technical and cultural development of Europe, and its example inspired all European empires that claimed to be its successor. The USSR collapsed as a result of the Cold War and the arms race imposed on it, but it has forever entered history as a country that defeated fascism, and thanks to it, today we have labor protection, an 8-hour working day and social guarantees.
      History is written by those who have made a more significant contribution to it.

    Can somebody explain how can so many people die for some lunatics decisions to go to war for land or resources foe his glory. The men that die are nowhere to be heard of in history. Wether its napoleon, alexander or some other general. They were all looking for glory. Why would millions die for their ambitions. I can die for my country so my people can live in peace or against an aggresor but dying for a person fighting for his glory. Naaaa.

    • @NapoleonProduction
      @NapoleonProduction  10 месяцев назад +7

      Napoleon wasn't fighting for his own glory. Actually, all his wars were defensive ones. I'm not saying he wanted peace over everything but you can't say he wanted war, because france just wasn't in a position to fight economically. For other Conquerors i'm sure you can find other interesting facts, but usually the one who most want peace are the soldiers, because they know what kind of hell war is.

      Because, contrarily to popular belief, Napoleon was not a warmonger who wanted to conquer the world. Most of the wars he fought were started by other nations, and he defended France with great success. He didn’t start many wars, but he ended plenty.
