    If you look at the specs, it states that it throws 300 lumens/1,300 candela 229 feet. If that doesn't produce a focused beam with a lighter spill area, I don't know what will. That beam is doing exactly what they say it will do. It sounds like you need a different type of light for your particular application. What about something that clips on to the brim of a hat? Alternatively, attach a Perun to your belt?...

      You are right, the specs say one thing and the marketing says another. That's why I went ahead and got it and looked at it for myself and showed the results. I do clip the Perun to my belt, I think I mentioned that in the EDC video but probably not in this one. That works great. The full size Perun is a little heavy for a cap brim but in a pinch it'll do. I'm happy with the Perun, I was just hoping this could be clipped to a vest or hat and be useful as a task light based on how they played up the attachment options in their marketing so I took a chance. It's not a bad light, it's just confused about its role in life. It could have been great.

    I have used just plain masking tape in various colors for a long time to diffuse lights for night time reading / area work attached to a backpack strap, etc. Cheap and works fine, then easy to remove and I have the spot is needed.

    I like the beam as I feel that it gives this tiny flashlight more reach at lower settings, thereby conserving the tiny battery. For example, when I close up the house at night, I can see over to the door to see that it is locked. Perhaps if my Kindle eReader (E Ink) reader did not have its own built in front lit illumination I might feel differently.

    • @commonsensepreparedness5329
      @commonsensepreparedness5329  7 месяцев назад +1

      It's not a bad beam, just doesn't belong on a light designed to be clipped/stuck onto things, which to me makes it specifically designed to be hands free and therefore an area/task light vs a spot light. But if it works for you then that's all that matters.

    Used matte finish tape on the lens to diffuse the beam. I use tape on my headlamp and it works great.

      If they made a sliding or clip-on diffuser for this light it would make it more versatile.

  • @sandergtube
    @sandergtube 5 месяцев назад +1

    Have you tried a matte tape difuser on it, like 3M Magic Tape? Would be interesting to see how much it helps. Formfactor is very appealing, but the beam pattern does not match the purpose of the light at all.
    Also, is the tint as yelow-green as it looks in the videos, in real life? Looks like 6500K SST40. ((

    • @commonsensepreparedness5329

      I don't have any frosted tape but I might look for some at the store next time. The tint is pretty bad, I have another video showing the beam compared to a Perun and the tint color is noticeable.

      Glad it works for you, I hope they come out with a flood pattern because the form factor is great but I get irritated with that hot spot up close. I can see this being a successor to the Perun mini.

    I agree 100%. Love a lot about this light, and I thought - maybe I could cut some diffuser material and stick it on there but then it's got that red light, and the low light modes, and - it should just be diffused to begin with.

    That's my main complaint about this light as well. Was genuinely surprised when I first turned it on. I also noticed mine had a greenish color to the light compared to the white/blue color of standard Olights

    • @donaldstrader7241
      @donaldstrader7241 7 месяцев назад

      Not the best beam tint but I forgive it in such a tiny light. It would be even better though, if it had a nice clean neutral white tint.

    • @commonsensepreparedness5329
      @commonsensepreparedness5329  7 месяцев назад

      LEDs can have a green tint when new then they drift more towards neutral as it ages, that might be the case here but only time will tell.

      Olight is known for using very cheap LEDs. Combined with built in/proprietary batteries and they’re just not worth the money.

    • @commonsensepreparedness5329
      @commonsensepreparedness5329  5 месяцев назад

      @@atomicsmith I bought my first one around 2009 or 2010 and it still works. I have well over a dozen. For a while their tailcaps would fail but since they went to the metal ends I don't have that problem. I do have one Sofirn light which I find to be superior but the main reason I like Olight is the UIs. I'm particular about things like button placement and clip design and most of the time Olight wins that category. I understand the battery issue, but I also have 10+ year old lights still on the original battery after EDCing them for years, so to me the battery quality is fine. I also buy them on sale so I find those prices reasonable. For example I have an Owl weapon light and I almost never use it because the batteries have parasitic discharge, whereas the Olight weapon lights are still full after months in the safe. I don't pretend they're "better" than some other brands, but to me they're just fine for what they are. I'm always open to suggestions from people who know more than me though, so if you have brands and models you like, feel free to share them.

    Like the new nitecore edc 33, claims to have flood and spot. But flood is only avaliable as 1300 and 4000 lumens, the moon, low and mid ONLY spot. So the question is, who wants 15 lumens spot? Nonsence, i agree with you, low modes MUST BE FLOOD.

    • @commonsensepreparedness5329

      I carry two lights, one with a flood beam and one with a spot beam. I have never used a tight spot beam to do up close tasks when the option for a flood exists, it's just silly to market this as a task light and not have a flood option.

      Sure it is. I've never hung up a light to illuminate my working area hands free and thought "Gee I wish I only had a tiny spot of light to see what I'm working on." Does your dome light in your car only light up a few dash buttons? Does your front porch light only light up one step and leave the rest in the dark? Tight beams make zero sense for a hands free task light. But if you just like the form factor and don't care about ever using the clip or magnet, then this light is great.
