  • A Piper diagram is a graphical representation used to analyze and visualize the chemical composition of water samples. It provides a clear way to classify water types based on the relative proportions of major cations (positively charged ions) and anions (negatively charged ions). This type of diagram is commonly used in hydrogeology, environmental sciences, and geochemistry, as it allows diagnosing the origin of water, its interaction with the porous medium, and its dynamics in wet and dry seasons. We have developed an applied case of generating Piper diagrams for water samples taken from piezometers and springs as part of an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) of a mining project. The procedure covers all the steps required to format the concentrations and generate the Piper diagram online using Aquifer App (aquifer.hatarilabs.com). In addition, a discussion is made on the distribution of the points based on the chemical data, spatial distribution, and geology.
