    As someone whose hips *do not* open, you have no idea how relieving it is to hear that even experts struggle with the heel-to-heel and that I don't need to get my feet in the perfect 180 degrees! I might finally have options for backwards-to-forwards other than "stop, pose, turn" 🤣

    Another awesome tutorial Nicole! Could you show us a tutorial for this transition but in more motion, for instance if you're skating a bit faster in a rink. I always tend to get nervous and lose form because I added speed to the equation.

    Omg thankyou!!!! I always thought i was broken because i can't do a heel to heel transition

    I’ve been practicing this turn because I cannot for the life of me do a heel to heel turn, you’re right - it’s not a natural movement..lol I actually thought my lower body was broken because I can’t even do it if slow the steps down 😂. Maybe by next year I’ll be able to ballerina it lol
    I prefer the staggered transition with the pick up on the front wheels and turn hands down. Another great video Nicole, thank you :)

      Same here. Attempting a heel to heel hurts sooo much, even after stretching. I'm learning how to stagger turn on my back wheels.

    three turns are soooooo much easier on ice skates 😩 i cannot for the life of me figure out how to do them on roller skates but this tutorial gives me some direction. thank you nicole! time to go practice!

    Not many artistic skaters know how to apply their skills to outdoor! Love that you understand the importance of the stagger outside! 😍

    How come transitions are harder from backwards to forwards than from forwards to backwards...? Love and light from Norway!

    • @zoealexandra7940
      @zoealexandra7940 3 года назад +3

      I experience the exact opposite. I can't figure out how to go from forwards to backwards for the life of me.

    • @franslam7398
      @franslam7398 3 года назад +2

      It's the opposite for me. The momentum of backwards to forwards goes in the same direction. It's forwards to backwards that throws my balance off.

    • @luablau
      @luablau Год назад

      I'm with you, Lady Whitefang!
      From going forwards I start a small turn with the foot behind (like heel-to-heel but keeping two wheels always on the ground, and I don't know how far or close apart are my feet because it's so intuitive) and it naturally picks up the for which is still forwards and brings it into backwards.
      But from backwards to forwards it feels like any tiny and brief misalignment of the wheels become a dangerous stumble.

    • @antoineaaron3754
      @antoineaaron3754 4 месяца назад

      Because turning around from forward is more natural. We turn around to look behind us all the time. We hardly ever walk backwards and then turn around

  • @luablau

    Back to forward in flowy movement is a struggle! I think I end up doing what looks like it starts as dip, then I end up stopping while doing half rotation of a slow two-foot spin and push forwards. I sure will try this guiding foot for 3-turn.
    (Two-week feedback in comments)

    • @luablau
      @luablau Год назад

      So, now I think I was doing something somewhat like this guiding foot with heels up, only my weight was all over the place, I'd start with a strong lemon move and would bring the guiding foot behind me with the turn (and then use it to push me forwards).
      I'm much more centered now! Can't wait to progress to a one foot turn!!!

    Love all your videos! Question about keeping all 4 wheels- I feel like my wheels are really sticky and are not able to do that. Where should the weight be when you do this transition? Is it still in the back side edge?

    • @luablau
      @luablau Год назад

      Yes. I hear it's mostly in one single wheel, but I don't know if inside or outside. But the stickiness of the wheel and floor is important too, some slide much better while others are extremely hard, I wouldn't try to slide with sticky wheels if it's not mandatory.

    Thank you for the video and for going over those competition standards.
    Are some wheels better for that than, say, my derby wheels?
    I cannot imagine my derby wheels sliding like that on a rink floor.

  • @mamatajci
    @mamatajci 2 года назад

    Hello, how hard are your wheels when you can turn on all four? My wheels are 85A and they stick to the floor. Maybe it also depends on the sort of floor? Mine is shiny with a lacquer finish. No way to turn on all four.

    thank you so much for breaking down the movement. anyway, i cannot seem to turn my leg. how long does it take to learn this? i am a beginner skater, FARS 2. any tips how to make it easyer? (beside loosen up the trucks) or is it just the feeling you get with the skates, where they are...

    Ohhhh apparently I've been doing 3turns wrong because I slightly lift my toe/heel when doing the forward/backward 3turns. The reason is because i find if i don't my skate make a really loud ugly scratch when it's on 4 wheels. How come when you do it it's silent? (my wheels are hard 95a/97a)
