Yeah that question he asked was straight from the "anti Osaka rhetoric" that we've been hearing as of late. When did she say she "liked" one "form of media" over another? I would've actually been interested in a reply as to if she thought there was a difference between the platforms and perhaps why she liked one more than another, but the narrative he's pandering to within the context of the questions he actually asked didn't create a space to have an honest discussion. Instead, his assumptions were solely meant to paint a narrative. This wasn't good journalism.

@@TimothyOvia But he still has every right to ask that question. Since Osaka is going through some troubles and it's been a little popular lately,of course the media will talk about it. She’s a young person that is still developing and figuring out how to deal with her anxiety and emotions. Wow that statement at the end was incredibly disingenuous, the reporter asked a question borne of plain sight observation, now that qualifies as bullying? That is such an evil thing to say because bullying is very real and a huge problem however, it's always up to the individual on handling it. You cannot eradicate something like bullying anymore than something like hate - they are the same. You only give it power when you let it effect you.

For those of you who don't understand the problem with the question:
    It's not 1955 any longer.
Media members such as this guy who show up to press conferences and ask questions have nothing to do with Naomi Osaka being a popular athlete. She could never do another press conference for the rest of her life and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. She could communicate with the world through her social media accounts, as long as tennis was ok with it, and literally nothing would change.
So he is starting from the false premise of "The Media Made You".
Then, from that false premise, he's throwing her supposed distaste for it back in her face by asking her how she will balance said distaste with the benefits, basically saying "look at what the media has done for you, shouldn't you show it more respect?" when in fact, she is always so professional and so respectful in her public appearances.
Just absolutely ridiculous, and a shameful, shameful line of questioning.

I also would say, Naomi is a deep thinker and definitely analyzes so much to the point she might overanalyze and become overwhelmed herself. I really think she needs to stay off of social media; we are just normal people with opinions because we see Naomi as a comparison of our own lives for better or worse. Those journalists are truly on her side to promote her and her sport; folks on IG and twitter are just looking for a famous groupie that we think she (Naomi) relates to. And she's far more talented than the average person on social media.

Your statement about cops shooting random innocent black people is the LIE that keeps on giving. In 2020 there were under 20 unarmed black persons shot dead by police, there were over 40 white persons shot dead. The thing is, the white people don't make your main stream media so you do not think it's happening. In almost every case of these so called "innocent" black men getting shot, they are resisting arrest. There are circumstances police are put under and have to make split second decisions that no one can empathize with, unless they have been in that situation. Blacks also commit crimes at a large disproportionate rate to any other race in the country so they have more altercations with police that leads to more death. No politics here, just the facts.

How to be an introvert in an extrovert world. There are books about this. She just needs to read a few and become more accepting of herself. A better grasp of her own personality type, meeting other people with high profiles with a similar personality type, and better PR prep will help. She can even look up examples of famous introverts on RUclips. There are many extroverts that don't understand or care to understand introverted personality types. This will not change. So she must adapt or simply continue to cry and runaway. Another option is to completely ignore reporter's questions and just talk about what she wants to talk about. They can ask, but you don't have to answer. How about promoting your sponsors or the gear you use? Mo money, Mo charity. And don't forget to win a few tennis matches.

Or if she doesn’t want to answer questions she should just give a press conference to speak and leave. No one is making her play tennis professionally or take these interviews(if it’s in her contract we’ll do it or drop the contract). You can’t have it both ways….
🤔If she was my daughter I’ll remove her from the bright lights for a while until she’s mentally able to handle it. Or restrict her exposure to limited events.
But once again the agent was WRONG! And we as a culture are so darn PC and marshmallow over every little thing! Not fair.

I'm highly sensitive and empathic and I detected something very slight in his tone and the words he chose when he questioned her. She felt humiliated and attacked and that's why she cried. She literally went into "freeze" mode (of fight/flight/freeze). That's why she couldn't answer for a while. It is probably trauma-related and she got triggered. She felt put on the spot. When you are highly sensitive, you feel things deeper and you feel more than the average person (things that they wouldn't detect.) She's more of a private person. This guy seems like a reporter who has been doing this for at least 20-30 years. He's used to being pushy and forthright; she is not. She also may be suffering from trauma from other press conferences where she was humiliated or bullied. It must be anxiety-producing to literally be in front of a room full of people with cameras who can ask you anything and you're being taped live ... I could also really relate to her crying. She isn't making this up, being dramatic, or being too sensitive; she is sensitive. She needed a break and I'm glad that person was there for her to help her take one. she also may have other things going-on on top of this. I'm sure she does. (Who doesn't?)

The comment section is just depressing. Most of the people defending the reporter or underestimating what Naomi Osaka goes through have clearly no idea of what it means to be suffering by depression or anxiety. They think it's just like the normal stress they go to when they're watching their favorite team and get nervous or stressed about the result. They clearly have not the slightest clue of what it takes for someone who suffers from these things to just answer the phone, or go to the grocery, things simple for most of people - let alone facing reporters and having to give interviews, things that are stressful for most people anyways. The lack of empathy is sad. And it explains a lot of the bad things going on in our world.

She never said he was a bully as far as I know. Also she answered the question perfectly. She said she can't help to tweet or say something not tennis related - which is obvious because one can't only talk or think about tennis and she's literally asked about other stuff, too - if one speaks, one will in fact say things unrelated to tennis at some point and some of them might be interesting and if you are famous for anything they'll got attention. But that DOESN'T mean she's asking for attention or that she's not allowed to tweet anything unrelated to tennis in order to not get questions about it. She's not only a tennis player, she can have other thoughts and I don't thing she needs to explain herself about thouse during her daily job. Yes, she's allowed to have different thoughts and activities, no, there's no contradiction with not being obliged to answer just about anything she dares to tweet. She basically explained she can't help but have non tennis related tweets obviously-which she's allowed to.

This question has been addressed several times, prior and yet...he felt HE needed to ask it again. The sensitivity/arrogance of the press core is ridiculous at times. THIS is something to drag out, but...REAL news takes a backseat. (NCAA scandals, molestation charges, racism in sports, etc..). Also, where is my "stick to sports" crowd? He didn't and somehow that's okay? If you were to be asked the same question over and over, how will your demeanor be? This reporter is a clown and caught feelings, and wanted to stick it to her again. Let's stop making excuses for gaslighters. He's in the press, he knows that has been a cloud over her, and he added to it.
