You made my decision for me with this statement "I finished in 40 minutes". That price is extravagant. For 40 minutes of content I'd have expected the price to be 2 to 3 euros. Even worse, they are establishing this as the beginning of a quest / faction line that could easily go 10 or 12 missions deep.
I have the thousand free credits from the premier edition. I am positive that community modders will soon produce better content at cheaper prices. I am financially self-sufficient, $7-8 means little to me, but I won't be purchasing this module because it's value for price just isn't there.

I agree it's high but then again, I think $70 for a movie on rails experience with a 10-hour campaign is also very poor bang for the buck. Yet many people swoon over games like that.

That is hardly the point. It is PART of a DLC. If we normalize this what is the incentive for companies to not keep doing this? Giving us one step of a DLC and then selling us each part separately. This is the slippery slope to going to the Mission Board and having to pay real-world money to get missions.

It’s just a shame it’s part of a faction quest line that’s being paywalled essentially. I hope they don’t make the vehicles be behind a paywall to.

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think the pricing is actually fairly reasonable, compared to a LOT of other games, doubly so in the case of approved but not Bethesda creations, where most of the money goes to the modding team. Like for instance, most outfits (which usually are a top, bottoms, gloves, boots & sometimes a hat) in the Final Fantasy XIV cash shop cost $12US, and half the time they can only be applied to single characters, if you want outfits that are account-wide, you'll be paying at least $15US, and that just gives you a fancy outfit that is normally exclusive to NPCs and its only use is for Glamour (transmog). If you want something that actually has a use in-game, like mounts (which are just as fast as the many free mounts you can acquire through various means in-game), then you're looking at $25US - $35US.
Then there's Star Trek Online, where a single ship, usually with basic weapons and 1 unique console cost $30US (3000 Zen), and don't even get me started on Gaccha games like Genshin Impact...
I did agree with the assessment that the Fallout 4 creations were overpriced, since they tended to cost about the same for similar quest mods that had like a couple outfits and/or weapons as the reward & could be finished just as quickly, however, those didn't have any new voice acting (just recycled generic stuff if any at all) or NPC interactions aside from shooting them. This quest, on the other hand, has custom voice acting, well-done scripted events & all that, but for the same price as, say, Tunnel Snakes Rule or Gunners Vs Minutemen.

(EDIT: I posted a new more moderate message) I want violence, sex, horror, and I know I won't find it in these mods. Bethesda's validation signifies a form of consensuality that doesn't appeal to me. I'm happy with the novelty, for the sake of the community and its future, but I'm hoping for greater ambition from the game. That the new ship parts for example, just like the station elements, won't be the subject of mods and will be integrated directly into the game. Otherwise, you'll have to make choices based on your wallet or your artistic education, which will be unfair and ugly, and will lead to a game with no coherence than being venal.

If gamers can’t control themselves (which is usually the case) then nothing will change. If no one is buying stuff, they will eventually lower the prices. The reason I stopped playing disney dreamlight valley is because so many of their quests and main content ended up behind a paywall during full release after they said that wouldn't happen and promised the game to be free etc.
Starfield didn't make any promises but I still don't think any quests should be pay to play. Cosmetics. Ship parts. Houses. Yea all power to them. These are more on the optional side. But those who want to complete everything in the game and aren't made of money are unable to do so. This stuff adds up. First is 1 quest. Next wave got a sims 4 situation where it'd cost over a thousand dollars total to buy all the content.

By paying an extra $30 for the game I bought the upcoming expansion and received the equivalent of $10 in credits I can use to buy Creation Club material.
So that means the Shattered Space is worth $20. Is this Vulture 7/10 as valuable as Shattered Space? I hope that's not the case.
I think these first CC mods from Bethesda are more like templates for modders. Weapon skin, stand-alone quest with multiple NPCs, and additional unique weapon/clothing, placeable building for outposts, ship hab in both decorated and bare configurations along with all the placeable furniture included separately, upgraded Starborn armor, plushies... these are examples of how to properly make CC mods adding these various things to the game. This covers most of the basics for someone that wants to learn how to mod, and providing examples of what Bethesda expects is actually very helpful.
Sure, they could have told us that's what they are there for, but who doesn't want money? Maybe the prices will set the expectation for the cost of CC content, but I doubt that will hold for long. IF enough experienced modders come back and look at this game again and IF they decide to make mods for it, I think we can expect a lot of free low-level (items, ship parts, placeables, etc) content and reasonable prices for larger projects that affect or change the game at a more substantial level.
Just look at the mods already produced for free on Nexus. Modders may TRY to sell (eg) gun skins, but most modders will pump them out for free, just like they always have and players won't pay $3 for stuff they can get for free. On the other hand, if a small team of modders develops a huge re-work or addition to the game, players will happily spend $10-20 to pay for their content, just as we already have. IF the modders come, the market will stabilize.
Let's not let bad/ignorant/biased media and social coverage further feed the fires that tried so hard already to burn the game down.

I didn't realize accepting a mission that resulting in me getting the "Mystery Gravis Suit" also turned of my Achievements. Had I known that I would never have bothered with it. The ONLY Mods etc I might ever be interested in would have to come via Official Bathesda Updates and NOT affect my Achievements (not that Achievements mean all that much to me either but I don't want to get Penalized for accepting and update option or whatever).

BGS definitely hitting the FAFO button on this. Each mission should be maybe 100 points. In reality, they should be free since they're a part of a previously released dlc quest. If this DLC was all wrapped into 1 you can maybe justify 500 points. The fact that they released the 1st part free, and then so far seem to have each new expansion to that dlc as 700 each... they will definitely find out.
That said, I definitely feel they will make a correction on this. Those who purchased it will most likely receive credits back. So, if you spent 700 on this, expect that to happen, don't be upset about it.
As far as your video goes, great job with the comparisons. Obviously every game is different, but looking at the content received in fallout dlc like automations and even older dlc like The Pitt, you can definitely see how this is way over priced.

If BGS had simply offered the sniper rifle for $7 nobody would have made a peep. They tied it to a simple mission and people freak out that the mission wasn’t long enough. People regularly pay $20 for one skin on COD, Fortnite and Apex Legends. $7 for a pretty sweet sniper rifle is worth it to me. The extra hour of content was icing on the cake. Really cool quest too, adds a bit to the lore.

The rifle is glitched! I won’t reload. I saw another video where it happened and thought I was spared. No I wasn’t, it happened during a battle. 7 bucks for a broken gun. Gopher said don’t buy but curiosity got the best of me. So I guess I’m only to blame.

I agree with what you said. I understand completely why a content creator purchased this as you are helping all of us understand what this is all about. However, NO ONE who is not purchasing this as part of their job should ever consider buying ANYTHING like this from Bethesda. This furthers the unconscionable trend by Bethesda to microtransaction tiny amounts of actual content. Cosmetics are cosmetics and modders are not part of Bethesda and I have no issues with whatever price they choose to charge. Actual content as a paid mod from the company that failed to provide enough exploration content to begin with is just disgusting.

I'm curious what cut Bethesda takes off of the top for mods sold in the store by the community. I know services like Roblox really gouge their content creators, but I'm not sure what the percentages are with Creation Club. The single quest stuff that BGS is kicking out I can take or leave, there are far worse offenders out there than this in other games, The Vulture Trackers quest seems excessively expensive, but there also seems to be asset creation involved, so you have to weigh that in obviously. People will decide with their wallets or they'll just buy it when the deluxe credits and never buy anything again, and either is fine. Great video though hitting some of the highlights in the store. Looking forward to seeing what the modding community spins up over the next year.

All this update did was earn yet another landslide of negative steam reviews. And that's what it's worth, yet another panning.
All of the stuff from bethesda should have been baked into the next full DLC. Make that mariner ship part into the core of a ship that's themed that you find. Put the entire tracker alliance into that DLC, as a reason to buy it. That's fine.
But over-all, I'm completely against this concept all together.

Personally, I don't pay for mods. If I find one I like I generally donate to the creators though. CK should only be used so console players have access to mods and the ability to donate for good stuff as well.
Bethesda could do a yearly acces charge (or monthly) similar to Nexus. That would be a fair business practice for all parties IMO. 🍻

If we let them get away with this can you imagine how bad ES6 will be? €10 for a quest? €25 for the fighter's guild? A DLC that gives a substantial amount of content is one thing but a line has to be drawn Bethesda nickel and diming us.

Compared to the mining creation which is 500 credits (or even 400?) this mission is a total rip off. I say this as a huge Bethesda fan.
I think Bethesda is currently looking at how much they can amp up the price and how high it can go with us still willing to engage with the content because I seriously cannot explain why this one mission is supposed to be worth more than the whole mining creation which actually adds a ton of content and is to be updated further in the future.
That said, check out the mining one, it’s more akin to wasteland workshop imo and actually worth the money. The most interesting thing about it is the „coming soon“ section in the creation menu, it sounds awesome!
Also, thanks for making these, there aren’t a ton of starfield RUclipsrs out there, even though the game has a ton of potential.

I've yet to watch the video, but the answer is no. 7-8 bucks for a *single quest*?! Have they lost their minds?! It better be the best goddamn quest that was ever made for that price. And call it a hunch, but it probably isnt.

  • @LazloArcadia
    @LazloArcadia 3 месяца назад

I just did the Vulture quest last night. It was pretty good but was it worth the $7 USD that I paid for it? Meh...probably not. I mean there are a ton of other things to be done in game as it already is and the quest isn't that long. It is not like the purchase was adding an entirely new faction, nor was it really expanding of an existing faction in some really meaningful way. Worse, the sniper rifle that you get is really underwhelming from an appearance point of view. 2nd thing about the rifle specifically is it is an energy weapon, so a lot of the perks you need to be an effective sniper don't really apply to it. On the other hand it has some really insane stats so you don't need the perks.
All in all, it is the sort of quest you'll run once and then completely forget about.

Todd's comment on this paid mission is it was originally meant to be a cosmetic add-on for a few bucks, but they decided to make it a mission for better value. But clearly he didn't see the bigger picture here. Especially jarring is that while it's $7, you need to pay $10 in credits to do it.

as much as i hate the nexus politics, they have a far better deal than anything bethesda has on offer for their store, so the user only pays the subscription of something like 2 or 3 bucks a month which they can cancel at any time and keep the mods they downloaded from that collections system and they get unlimited access to all mods on the site with a professional downloader mod manager that auto load orders for you and does all the hard work for you on the spot without issue at uncapped download speeds within their collections lists offering hundred's if not thousands of really high quality mods in that system.
the only issue is this only works on PC and a lot of these collection lists require high end PC's, with all the billions of dollars at Bethesda's disposal after selling starfield, they can't make a comparable program at as cheap of a price to the customer base or offer a fraction of what the nexus offers in comparison?
instead it's this very lacking system that has boomer energy levels of old fashioned systems set in place, it reminds me of the old days of spending a quarter to get a gumball in one of those old clunky vending machines.
bethesda are still stuck in the past when it comes to innovation and technology advancement's.
i want to see them do a lot better, because i'm sick of them half assing everything they do, where the modders will do something for free and make a far better product than anything they sell at full price.

    @5226-p1e 3 месяца назад

if bethesda really wanted this mod to sell, they would have priced it to a dollar, because it would show other modders how much work to make a good quality mod but also offer the mod for a far cheaper deal, more people would bite than not, they don't seem to understand the laws of economics when it comes to such items being sold in a store.
7 bucks is too high a price for this kind of content, but they would get more people to purchase it if it were a dollar, and it would incentivize modders to make good mods and be sold on the market.
or they can do it by subscription tiers and the highest level of subscription could allow the user to get any of the payed content unlimited.

I am going to have to blame the micro transaction climate established by other companies, especially Activision with call of duty. I finally got tired of paying $20 for a single character skin with a couple attachments for a weapon that are somewhat time-consuming to secure for a casual gamer like myself. I uninstalled call of duty around six months ago and I am never looking back.
That being said, I really enjoy Starfield , and I would like to support Bethesda developers with a little extra income, the prices that they are asking are nowhere near the money grab that the makers of call of duty have made common place. I do understand the concerns of players who purchased the game on PC however, Starfield is a day one release on Xbox game pass so I did not have the initial $70 investment, just the cost of my monthly subscription that allows me to play a whole lot of other games.

So really this DLC is only worth it if you want the new gun. It's a cool gun, but the Reflex Sight attachment currently has that weird FOV "screen jumping" bug when you aim down sights in first person. The same bug many other guns had at release... somehow, it's returned.

If I had to just pay for it, I wouldn't pay for it out of pocket, I just wouldn't pay for it. That being said, I would highly suggest that Bethesda really adjust the pricing on some of these paid mods and reduce them, especially this one. I should be $3 max in my opinion. It's not enough additional content to warrant that much money. Considering, on console, we have almost 100 GBs of mod space AND we have the CK out, there's really not point to get upset about the cost and just enjoy it if you got the free credits. Better off just patiently waiting for the good stuff to come to help tide us over until we get the DLC.
