She only rejects him out of hand again. At which point he really stopped trying to pursue her at all. He made up his mind to be her "fan" and treat her like an "idol" that he shouldn't try to get too close to. So now even though he still talks her up to others he maintains a respectful distance from her.

The MC is a simp and can't just let go. He meets much better people after stopping his pursuit of FML, but still hangs on to her as someone perfect despite being by far the most unlikable person in the anime.
The FML's friend is a f*cking b*tch. First she tells MC it's his fault FML doesn't have any friends. When MC steps away she calls him an a$$hole for not giving FML attention.
The "romance" is garbage because the FML doesn't deserve anything because she's an attention seeking w*ore.
The actual side characters are what "saves" this shit show. And by save, I mean it's worth watching if you have absolutely nothing else to watch.

Context. He was seriously crushing on her. But playing it off as a joke. Dude nearly got KO'd by a soccer ball(no joke that hit wouldve knocked him out) and he got a reality check.
He backed off. She got concerned. And apparently so did everyone else bc theyve known these two for years and their song and dance. So when he stopped everyone FREAKED!
He started getting more attention from other girls. She started to butt in. But every time she tries to get an answer out of him he backe off even more.
Its the story about someone who thinks hes no longer worth of a girl and thats shes better off with someone else. Meanwhile the girl doesnt understand her feelings for him and the sudden change in their dynamic forces her to confront and sort these feelings out.
I kind of dropped it when i got done with the manga. But i do hear its a good LN read.

I like how the love interest girl has a deeper voice than most anime girls. Theres too many squeaky-voiced high pitched voices and its nice to hear a deeper one for a change!
