I don’t always listen to Severed Heads, but when I do - so do my neighbors.
I would consider Thomas T Ellard to be the most prolific pioneering electronic composer in Australian History.
Severed Heads and Racic are tops in my book
And beyond.
He's one of the best ever. Few come close to his greatness pre-90's
As a 20-year old, it’s insane to me that music and visuals like these could be created in the 80s, these people were incredible visionaries
You are lucky to know Borges and Severed Heads at 20
Same, 23 discovered them at 20 too
I'm so excited for you to continue to discover radical artists like this.
I'm 16 and discovered em around june of this year
Yes we were! 😊😊❤
"Harold and Cindy Hospital" is so damn good. Love Severed Heads!!
Too good to be famous.
Just you wait
Yes
1986 , Wish I was there. I was 15 and managed to get my hands on a half pint of Golden Grain and almost set myself on fire listening to the music and smoking cigarettes... But I am Good, I am 52 years old now...
I discovered these guys on Brave New Waves in the mid-80's. It was a great program late at night on CBC radio, Brent Bambury introduced me to the most amazing music ever. These guys being one of the highlights. The schools I went to were heavy metal, and there were so many people playing it loudly on their ghettoblasters. It wasn't my type of music at the time (I've since gained an appreciation), but this stuff really went to my core. They were making stuff from scratch, they didn't really sound like anyone else, they had no formula to follow. Their legacy is amazing, the music and the addition of the visuals was incredible. A side I never got to appreciate as I never saw them in concert, sadly. Love the music!
wonder how many people tuned to this channel and thought they were having technical issues
Tom Ellard, Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Kraftwerk and Neu are the avatars of electronic compostion par excellence.☆☆☆☆☆
You just described my favorite bands in middle school and high school. Add Negativland, Einstürzende Neubauten and Depeche Mode and that’s my whole vibe as a kid.
this guy is cool too: jean michel jarre ruclips.net/video/_0tuo-nbuHs/видео.html
I bought Since the Accident in College. Became a huge fan. I became infamous for liking weird music. Long live Tom Ellard!
The early tape loop stuff was so great
Its great to see this after so many Years. I was on their Gig in Bochum, Germany in 1986. The Line up was Ah;Grumh, Severed Heads and Skinny Puppy. The Audience was all dressed in black, with the only exception of my girlfriend in green violet and yellow. I loved and still love the Detail and Density of their Sample Layering Sound but never got used to Tom Ellards singing. Nevertheless, they saved the 80s for me and i still have a lot of their vinyl cds and cdroms. Thx for the Upload!
love your story!
what a show that would have been!
saw them at The Old Melbourne Hotel, Perth, in the 80's and they were brilliant.
This episode of RA is what got me into Severed Heads. I bought everything they put out after this, and I finally got to see them play at Le Rox in Adelaide a couple of years later. Went for a wiz before the show, standing alone at the wall of steel and who walks in, but one Mr Ellard. He's humming to himself, and mid-stream breaks into this "wop-a-bop-bop:" thing. I dare not look up, I mean, this guy is one of my heroes. Suffice to say, the opportunity to shake hands and say "love your work, Tom", was lost among the toilet lollies forever.
Fuck I miss going to sleep with Rage on late night and then waking up early morning to Rage for breakfast.
this is my favorite version of petrol
Goddamn Rock Arena was fantastic, and Suzanne Dowling was the perfect host. Awsm upload!
I love severed heads. Greater Reward is my favorite song by them.
4ever in my heart
fantastic piece of history. such a creative band.
in early 90s volition did a record store promo where you could buy a severed heads, scattered order, boxcar & single gun theory album for twenty bucks each. put the lot on layby at myers... took ages, but man was it worth it.
So cool. Had a Volition-only Greater Reward single, different tracks from the rest of the world. (The pink one, not the non-Australian red one). Lost it to a fire, but what great music.
Thanks for posting! I loves me some Sevs! When I first heard of Tom Ellard, he had been around for several years. He was doing his most commercially accessible music, such as this stuff, back in '86/'87. It's right about then I discovered Sevs. Been a fan for 35 years!

I was a little high and I saw "Live Severed Heads On ABC". When I got through video, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be disappointed or not.
I’m not sure if you have any taste or not 😂
breathtaking ....severed heads rule!
BEAUTIFUL! I CAME IN MY PANTS!
Nice
I love the song Propeller.
Thank you internet
Now I need some Cyflea Rated R Remixes 😃. Extended Deep Subwoofer Bass Remixes...
SOUNDZ N VISUALLY STUNNING‼️🎼🖤💲
When Cevin key said they took heavy inspiration from Severed Heads, they weren't joking... These beats are like proto-skinny puppy

Harold and Cindy Hospital
Thanks for posting this llove severed head's.
First and last time I ever drank Golden Grain...
A show originally created at ABC in Perth hosted by Peter Holland. Sadly another show taken from Perth and recreated in the East.
wow, really? that guy was cooler than i already thought ;)
Ahhh, to be a Time Traveler...
Thank a lot 👍👍🙏
Still modern .
I love these early vid aestetics. In our country Borghesia was doing the same, only the music was much more harder. I suggest checking to all out there interested in post punk/ebm electronic music.
Good band :)
Beautifully bizarre! :)
DAMN!!! Thanks for posting - feeling old but GREAT :)
I replayed this hundreds of times when I first put it on DVD
Yeah great idea apeshly what converter and burner or programme do you use get back to us cheers good to see a loyal sevs fan
Actually I got this like 2 years ago on archive.org but one of my friends sent me If I Told You Once as a DVD rip. What you should do to get really good digital tapes is hook your vcr up to your DVD recorder and record your vhs with it and it isn’t compressed so it’ll look fantastic
i cant stop
Fantastic
Dig the Heads.
Superb outfit, I preferred them when it was a bigger collaborative effort, with Gary Bradbury and Paul Deering etc ... lot more surreal!!, But the Petrol era was still good pop-music.
Nice to mention Paul. What a nice guy.
Anybody here with any other 1986 recordings? I’ve got Quebec, Neiman’s, Toronto, this and Dolce Vita
i want more severed head
@@pjr5913 Brave New Waves LP
Anyone notice that Tom forgot the words to the second verse of Big Blue is Back? ;)
Прикольная девушка такая, ведущая.
I will thank my uncle for blithely dismissing the band as "music for butch lesbians" because as an 11 year old kid who had only heard Dead Eyes Opened, it just made me more interested to listen to the band.
Weirdest description i have ever heard, of Severed Heads. 😂
Too bad they are not really playing.... I'm still gonna watch
