Moral Orel - Behind the Scenes

- This featurette isn’t terribly long, but is a good look at the history and production of the show, from its origins as a show about Iggy Pop to showing Dino Stamatopoulos’ daughter, who plays Orel’s brother Shapey, and comes up with all his dialogue.
its so sweet to see how much dino included his daughter in the show
Ye
I always wondered why shapey suddenly started saying cake. Now I know
He also included her a lot in his other main show Mary Shelley frankenhole
I love when shaped says daa daaa an cake
Aw, it’s kinda like how Trey Parker in South Park had his daughter voice Ike
Shapey being voiced by Dino's daughter is both hilarious and heartwarming
Like Trey’s daughter in South Park
@@nuclearcatbaby1131 shoutout to ike
He did bring his daughter again in Frakenhole as Igor.
Glad to see that the production was a lot more lighthearted than the show lol
a
i think this was in season 1 so..
open heart surgery is more lighthearted than the show lmao
Dino didn't change the world with Moral Oral he changed people and I think that's more important
Very well said
It's "Orel"...
@@brixan... it's auto correct 😂

This is amazing. Crying shame it didn't get more episodes. I hope these props still exist.. I'd pay a thousand dollars without a thought to bring the show back. Worth it. Needs a go fund me.
Im sure some legal bs will prevent this from ever happening
There's someone who worked on the show who has the Orel puppet that brings him around the world and takes photos of him, I think it's called Orel travels or something

super fucking cool to see how all this stuff is made, i had a certain respect for the animators beforehand because i knew this must be extremely arduous and tedious work but the amount of thought that they put into each shot in the show is really astounding in this video
as a 13 yo, i couldn't understand all the subtext and darker themes the adult characters were masking behind a fake smile. But coming back to it as an adult, I can appreciate it so much more

Love that shapey does actually say "Cake!" haha its cool to see how he involved his daughter.
Thank god for HBO max otherwise I would have never given this show a chance and now it’s one of my favorites
Replace HBO MAX with the RUclips algorithm and that's how I found out about the show. Somehow watching car and sports videos motivated YT to suggest this bizarre claymation program to me lol

@Local Orel Fan normally i'd protest against TT, but seeing as I've tried for 14 years trying to get other people to watch this show (and that's amounted to only 2 people), I won't complain here. lol
@Local Orel Fan I applaud you for getting more people to watch than I could.
and i'll give tiktok this, it does give shows a second life long after they're over (IE Clone High, another show I tried to get people to watch and actually got another season)
"Scott Adsit and Jay Johnston are my right-hand and left-hand men. One of the hands is weaker than the other."
Scott Adsit: Starred as Baymax in Big Hero 6
Jay Johnston: Stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6
I'm not sure if this aged poorly or aged like fine wine.
Was escorted inside on Jan 6th*
No but the fact that Jay's bubble is noticeably smaller is too perfect lol
Its such a nice contrast to see how much Dino loves his daughter than how much Clay love Orel. Holy fuck its complete opposites
In my mind, he’s the Orel grown up, well in another universe where he left the ways of god and moralton
Whats dinos religion is he christian or athiest
This show saved my life :) so cute to see how it’s created!
i love moral orel
you and me both
I really like how it pokes some fun at extreme right wing religious beliefs but it isn’t insulting Christianity itself. I think that the show demonstrates how ridiculous some claims people make solely on what the Bible says but still shows a way that life lessons can still be found in having religious beliefs. You just need to be your own judge of what you believe in and think is right and not blindly do whatever people say you should do without any questions.
@@kenthuang436 factsssss
@@kenthuang436 perfectly said!!
"Hello goodbye!"
That kind of encapsulates how I feel after the sudden ending of the show. Felt a bit rushed. Like they deus ex machina'd everything to be okay. Everything was going to shit and then, fast forward, it's not. Emotional whiplash, man.
Well, OREL is ok. We don't get to see a lot of what happens to the other characters in Moralton.
I really would love a new season.
Thats becouse the show was canceled and that season was cut in half
To be fair they were gonna do more with the show but they got canceled so it wasn't rlly much they could abt it
For the final episode she says "Goodbye Goodbye"
This show is taken too soon. I hope this show gets a reboot like Clone high 🙏
Fun fact: the last episode of Moral Orel has Dino’s daughter saying “good bye good bye” at the end of the credits… it really hurt hearing that on my first watch lol
i hope we could ever get another moral orel special :( this series is too amazing for it to not have more content
Or 2-3 more seasons (pray for it)
Who knew fricken Starburns wrote a Christian comedy?
I wouldn't call it a Christian comedy, the show mocks Midwest Baptists but it's from an outsider perspective
@@salsamancer *Protestants
I FUCKIN KNEW IT
IT WAS STARBURNS
It is a satire about religion so I wouldn’t called it a Christian comedy
Dude when I seen him I was like "WHATTT"
What's amazing is Dino referenced "...America at the time..." then said "Unless I'm talking to you now and the worlds changed"
The world has indeed changed, and it's only made the show funnier. I remember thinking I had friends who would be severely offended by this sort of show when I was younger, even though I loved it, and now it's a comedic gold mine by most standards.
I think it just depends on the person. I grew up in church, and still attend in my mid-20s, and can guarantee you there are people there that would misinterpret the message of the show. It doesn't take much thought to realize that Moral Orel isn't an "anti-Christian" show, since it doesn't comment on Christianity as a belief as much as it comments on the people who identify with it. (The fact that the moral of each episode goes back to a made up "lost commandment" drives this point home pretty hard.)
@@D.rewman While a very salient point, you have to acknowledge that parodying Christianity was very taboo not that long ago. Nowadays, we take shots at whoever wants to enter the crossfire. The game has indeed changed. Its a true parody in the idea of how warped his perceptions and actions become, but back then, that was pushing boundaries. Now, making jokes about the Church is much more common, for obvious reasons.
@@Damiardo Reading over my comment again, I actually hit "send" before I got to the point I was making. You're definitely right, but the point I was getting to was that it doesn't take much thought to get that Moral Orel is a criticism of the culture surrounding the belief rather than the belief itself, but there are definitely people that aren't willing to give that thought and will simply be offended that the show is portraying Christians as hateful and manipulative.
The very first episode takes a jab at that group, too, with that one line from Doughy saying "Orel, you're not supposed to think when it comes to God and faith!"
Even going back to your original comment, I think I might've even missed what you were saying to begin with lol. I'm probably just stating the obvious here that there will always be a group of closed-minded Christians out there that will go with their knee-jerk reactions on any criticism of the church or their faith.
Nowadays the left is morphing into a sort of secular fundamentalism. It’s not quite there yet but it would be interesting to see a version of Moral Orel that takes place in Woketon.
I'm a Christian, and I love this show, in my opinion there is nothing anti-christian about it because it points out exactly what drives people away from the faith, it points out the blatant hypocrisy and abuse that sits and stagnates unnoticed within a lot of churches today. And just how badly the faith has been twisted.
I have no idea why but Carolyn Lawrence laughing at that outtake was really cute and funny.
Moral Orel is just amazing, pretty sad it got canceled so soon

This show was truly something special. It wasn't afraid to broach very dark, heavy topics... not just for shock value but to make statements about them. It's a damn shame it was cancelled, and I hope if they're up to it they get the chance to come back to it someday.

Such a charming show!
Best example of "be careful what you wish for."
The president of Adult Swim asked that season 3 be much darker than S2's finale, and the writers delivered on that... by a longshot (Alone especially) and adult swim exces and president of Adult Swim lost their shit, got scared and cancelled Morel Orel. Kinda bullshit imo. I miss this show

So many people involved in the making of this show, more than I would have thought.

this show was so off-putting when I saw it on adults with as a kid, now I'm watching all the episodes
looks like Starburns really turned his life around after his fake death. Good on him.
1:35 that line delivery was priceless and demonstrates what made the humor so good in this show. They never felt the need to go for big air with their jokes. Just dialogue that if said in a room with real people would undeniably yield laughter.
Tell me why I didn't know the creator of Moral Orel was Starburns' actor
His name is Alex.
There's a person behind those, okay?
This show helped me as I was navigating my doubts of the religion I was raised in. It’d be understated to say that this show helped change my life for the better. It made me confront the truth of what I was seeing play out in my childhood. I was basically like Orel when I was young.
