Thanks for a great video. Your technique worked perfectly on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata. You got straight to the point and did not waste time with idle chatter.
Glad it helped you out! If the dealer cannot get replace it soon, buy one off Amazon like I did. Hold on to the old one for the dealer to turn in to Hyundai. Installing the new one takes only a few minutes.
MY 7 year old accidentally locked my trunk and the alarm could not open. i had things in there i needed. this video SAVED US FROM my food spoiling we just got from the store. thanks for making this video.
@cousinjohncarstuff4568 my mum having same problem as you post this videos she got sonata 2017 her trunk lock ahhah I will try the way you show tomorrow. Hope it open thanks
Thanks for the video! Mine has gotten to the point that neither the key and button combo work, nor does the button make any clicking sound. Any suggestions, I was considering changing out the fuse but I’m not sure.
Took me about 15 min initially to get the key-button combo to work. Remember, you will feel the key move just a tick more to the right, then hit the rubber button.
The key still wasn't working for me so I went to Hyundai dealership. And turns out it was a recall broken trunk latch and the dealership replaced it for me.
It takes patience, took me maybe 10-15 min the first time. What you see in the video is where I had done it enough times to make it look easy. It could be the assembly is done for. An independent shop may have trick to get it open, but keep trying...
Have to turn the a until you feel a little extra click to the right. (Don't force it!) Then, push in on the rubber release, and it should pop. might take several times of turning the key to the left and back to the right to get it open. Just be patient and don't force it!
It is in the locked position where you cannot shut it? If so, take a small flat blade screw driver, and you can force it to the open position. it is in the video how I did it. Any more questions, feel free to ask!
If you have the key, it would require a 2nd person to push the inside release button. Be patient, it took me quite some time to get it to go. What you see in the video was after MANY times of doing it. You most likely will not get it as quick. Thanks for watching!
@@joshlewis2768 It only turns a fraction further than normal. (If you are in Dallas area, I could do it in less than 5 min) The good news is that I have a video on the recall letter, watch that one and the Dealer will replace it.
If you are using just a key, no. It took 10-15 min for me to get it to work the first time. It is like a combination lock. Just be patient, as it takes time for the key to go a pinch extra when turning it, and push the popper after the key is held in place.

@@sheldonfrancis25 That is how I do then. Short video where title content matches video title.
My God, this thing works! I never knew there’s a keyhole over there. Thanks a lot man!
You are most welcome! Just takes patience to get it open! Watch PT2, there is a link to the video I used to replace it, and where I got the new latch.
My thoughts exactly except tbe video i found didnt say i still had to push. I figured it would pop open. Lol

It can take numerous tries to get it to open, I had done it enough prior to the video, it looked simple. Glad they were able to replace it!
I tried that and it still wont open. any other tips

What do you do when the key doesn’t open the trunk ?

how do you take the key out of the fob
On the fob is a small silver button. Push in on the button, and pull up on the key ring. It will come right out.
I have American SONATA in UAE, I have opened it with the help of key as you have explained but now it is not closing, I am stuck,
Have to flip the lever on the right so it is not in Valet mode. Take a small screwdriver and force the latch open.
What exactly did you do to get it to close? Please help!

I still can’t seem to get it to work

I’ve been trying this method daily but my trunk still want open my key doesn’t turn all the way
