I *think* that in the Gold Coast location the map maker meant the black sticker on the pole as a meta. It looks a little like the Malaysian one, just longer and with numbers on it. It's specific to Queensland, particularly the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas. :)
Oh, and yes, Ulaanbaatar recently got gen 4 coverage. The car in this location was blurred, but when it's visible it's a crazy very distinctive design. :D

I think the clue for the Mongolian round was the double vowels (e.g., "yy") in Cyrillic.

That's a good clue, thanks for sharing!

13:40 you really made me believe you thought it was Chile 😂 got me confused as well 😂
Pretty cool video, even though I hate 3 metas, the ones you don't see in real life, google car, camera generation and copyright dates is good to see how good you are at this game

The longer I have played, I start appreciating pure vibe guessing more. No way to escape all the metas, though 😄

4:15 I've been on that road in real life countless times! I could probably have 5k'd that off memory

12:04 could be a wide spread advertisement worth mentioning. Like the signs all over Cambodia for Cambodia beer

If you go to that location in Google Maps, in March 2022 there is a domain (.lk). I'm guessing that was supposed to be the clue instead and that the location got overwritten by unofficial coverage.

Maybe. In Cambodia it's a brand name at least 😄

Those “60” signs are all over Australia.

The signs yes, but if I remember correctly, you can use slight differences in signposts and bolts to tell the states apart.

Have to admit I haven't watched the video yet but I did all the challenges. Did fairly well with the highlights being two literal 5ks that were not easy at all (eSwatini and Southern South Island New Zealand). Worst one was Argentina on mainland Malaysia, somehow didn't see the black pole plates and thought it might be a divided highway. Also Colombia on Mexico and Russia on Serbia. And why were there German bollards in Sweden in one of the first rounds? I still went Sweden but come on.

Flags, bollards, posts and language are not metas though

Depends on who you ask. Most people call them metas as well

    • @AquilaSornoAranion

@@GeoPeter What is not meta in that case? And what could I possibly call the clues that are specific to Google's data set, to distinguish it from knowledge that a local would have?
      (Genuine questions)

    • @GeoPeter
      @GeoPeter  3 месяца назад

@@AquilaSornoAranion Pretty much in the community, people call everything you can learn to help you in GeoGuessr a meta. Basically all the tips. It includes bollards, pole stickers, etc. I agree it's a too broad of a definition, and if it was up to me, meta would be just the things you don't see irl. :D

    • @AquilaSornoAranion

@@GeoPeterThanks for the reply. Alright, then we're in agreement. It just feels that most people have misunderstood the concept and now "meta" just means "knowledge" in geoguessr. But it would be nice to keep the distinction between what is data about the geographical place and what is, well, metadata.
And if the top 3-4 geoguessr channels on RUclips would be clear on the distinction, there's a chance that the community would learn the concept 😉
