They’re one shot with a pickaxe you just need to get your mining up a bit first

Another thing I have found out:
If you have a high damaging weapon I think treasure hoarders in the upper mines give a lot of combat xp

Go through all the mines until you’re at the deep caverns, then go down all the way to the diamond reserve at the bottom of deep caverns and there will be an npc. Talk to the npc and increase your mining level to 18 then talk to him again

Aurora staff doesn't have combat 24 req for some reason, it's the armor that does
