He criticized the 2/105th Infantry for not rapidly overruning Nafutan point. This is an example of the leadership qualities of the "brilliant" HM Smith.
That looks like the BL 6inch Gun Mk7 British naval gun dating from around 1899, the British sold to the Japanese there was one on Saipan. I didn't get to look at that one when I was there.
