OMG I remember it well in 1998 the whole family took the LRT ride, which was also newly operating... to the stadium and we were entertained and we were so proud to live a few KMs away from the stadium and when the fireworks show took place, we would go out of the house to see it with our very own eyes!

It was a memorable occasion made all the more special by the fact that 16th Commonwealth Games was held here in my home town in Malaysia! Unfortunately, we missed the closing ceremony where Queen Elizabeth, in attendance with her recently sadly departed consort, Prince Philip (RIP), proclaimed the Games closed. She is much loved by the Malaysian people and our prayers & thoughts go with her and hope (and know!) that she will cope with her bereavement with courage & fortitude. I am sure the Duke of Edinburgh (bless his soul ) wherever he is now, would say this as an afterthought, paraphrasing Rupert Brooke> “If I should die, think only this of me: That there’s forever a corner of a foreign field, that is forever England.....Malaysia.”

I saw the memento kept in one of the dark corners in some building in Manchester a few years back. If it wasn't because of the prominent 98 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games Logo imprint on the top of the drum, I wouldn't have noticed that it is from Malaysia.
