  • Welcome to another read-aloud! In honor of Pride month, we are choosing books with LGBTQ+ themes. This time we're reading "It Feels Good to Be Yourself" by Theresa Thorn.

🌸Written by the mother of a transgender little girl, It Feels Good to Be Yourself is a wonderful way to introduce the concept of gender identify to your children. It is a book that allows children to feel free to be whoever they authentically are and gives them the vocabulary to express that. It is also very educational for adults, and shows us how we can - and should - openly talk about gender with our children in an inclusive and affirming way.

This is one of my FAVORITE children’s books of all time. I personally think this should be a staple in everyone’s library. 📖

As allies, we are still learning and welcome feedback, suggestions, and respectful criticism in the comments or private messages at any time! We are also mindful that it should not be the work of LGBTQ+ individuals to educate us and so we continue to prioritize our own education about how we can best support LGBTQ+ individuals and, especially, our LGBTQ+ students.
