Your intro was at reconciliation rocks. I lived and worked in the North for a while. I love watching the 'tourist/adventurer' take on the North. It's eye-opening.
00:12 Watching again, 12 months later. You're parked right next to the reconciliation rocks. Cool. I lived near Cooktown back before the old train station was removed, and the rail lines were still there. I was goiung to walk the line until I got in amongst the mangroves and discovered all the little bridges had been removed...Oh, and I had a mate who live 50 metres away from where you are there.
Hey Sian, just a little tip, i put the big postie red rubber bands around all my cans in the fridge, helps stop them rubbing together incase one bursts and makes a mess, never lost any, but a very easy preventative measure to take 👍 Safe travel guys😃
Hey Ante, we used to keep all of our cans laying on their side but since vanning we have lost a few. We’ve since stood them upright and packed them well with the bit of card board you get in a carton of cans between each layer and so far we’ve had no death of beers! 😂 We have heard of rubber bands and also electrical tape but so far haven’t needed to use it... 🤞🏻 thank you for the tip, appreciate the help and for following us ☺️
6:35 Okay, I was going to say, "I'm not taking the piss, but..." and then I thought, well, I guess I am...You're only at Musgrave, and that lovely 4WD is potentially going to have a lot more dings. Badges of honour my friends, badges of honour. And thank you. I love seeing videos of my old stomping ground.
Good vid guys. We took our caravan up too and I had the same scupper vent. I put a make shift air filter on it to help with the dust. Also we lived in Weipa for a very brief time and where you think you saw a croc, well there is a massive resident croc there that hangs around there. We used to watch him all the time. Looking forward to the rest of your trip. Makes me miss the Cape.
That’s a great idea guys! And how did your makeshift airfilter go? Well, maybe the first time we did drive past there was a croc! It was definitely just a log-a-dial by the time we drove back though 😂 🐊
@@BigOzExplorers the filter worked good. As in there was always a lot of dirt on the top (dirty) side. We still had some dust get in but that was me slacking in taping things.
Another awesome vid legends! Few little ups n downs but your both always smiling! 🥰 Don’t forget your chuck your valuables in your North Storm gear - dust proof as 👌🏼
Great vid we have just been up there in Sep around the gulf across dixie track up to Musgrave towing AOR Matrix Positive pressure van no dust there were plenty of dust vans up there .we used a stone stomper to save van rear window damage. Safe travels. Ian.
Guys not sure if you’ve heard of a stone stomper. Great value, easy to attach and saves so much damage to van n tool box. Also prevents rocks hitting your stone guard and bouncing back onto your rear window and breaking it. Enjoy your trip👍
Hadn’t heard of them but looked it up and then knew what you meant. We haven’t had many issues with stones hitting the van/toolbox or the rear of the car, I feel like our combination works quite well? I can imagine without a stone guard it was be shocking though! Thanks for thinking of us Deirdre ☺️
I was chatting to a guy in a park at San Remo a while ago and he said that he found a lot of entry points for dust in the seems around the bottom. At night he suggested to get a light under the van and then go around the inside in cupboards and storage compartments, if you see light that’s Where the dust may be entering. I didn’t do it because ours appeared fine but his was a Jayco and had several small gaps. He sprayed the expanding foam (Dodgy brothers) from underneath to seal up the small gaps. That red dust is like powder and just gets in , you may never solve the mystery. Anyway, great clip again and the scenery is incredible.
That’s a great idea and may be worth it for us just to see if there are any there, I’m pretty sure we’ve sussed it out now but no harm in being more than sure lol thanks for the tip mate! 👌🏻
We’ve sussed it now but it took the whole Cape to figure it out! 😂 We’ve been off road today for the first time since the cape and success, no dust! Happy was an understatement 🙌🏻
Hopefully we give you a heap of ideas for yours. We have a build series on our channel also which explains all we have done with it 😁 thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Wow can't believe how calm you were with everything that went on. Me i would have been saying every swear word I knew.🤣🤣 Looks fantastic though. One day hopefully for us. Enjoy.👍👍

It takes some time but it’s so worth it and we make some great friendships along the way ☺️ you will love the Cape, it’s such a great trip to make and still a major highlight for us going around Australia 🇦🇺 have fun and talk to you again soon ☺️
3:30 Mangoes. Sometimes they'll start to produce fruit and the weather will go against them and they suffer. Most mangoes will produce heaps of flowers and fruit, heaps of baby mangoes, and end up dropping most of them.
Hey Anne, we haven’t covered that but to be honest they’re not really a brand of any type! These are the ones that came standard on the van and still going strong 2years in.
Nothing wrong with a sneaky cc at 10.30am 🍺 love that tune that starts at about 9:43 , definitely use that one again, had a Russel coight feel to it 🤣🤣good job again guys! 👍
I loved it too and the first thing Chris said is ‘what made you choose that song?’ Because we’re in the bloody country heading to the Cape, that’s why! 😂 It’s got such a good beat! 😄 thanks for tuning in again Steve 😁
Hmmmm.....I thought Telstra & Optus claimed to have 99% coverage throughout Australia......wow, silly me. *rolls eyes* And literally a minute after your demo on the phone holders, i purchased one online. hahahaha. Hey Stephen! Sounds like we were able to help you out a lot in this episode, that’s awesome! Knowing Telstra there is probably a clause, 99% coverage of ‘towns’ or something what’s the bet! 🤷🏼♀️ Thanks for tuning in. We will get to VIC eventually, looking forward to the 4x4 high country 4x4 tracks down there 🥰
Hi, I saw your video where you had problems with the red dust from the gravel roads. I have an idea that might help you. If you have an air conditioning system in the caravan, then turn it on while driving, then a kind of overpressure occurs in the interior and could thus keep the dust out. I think it would be worth a try. Then have fun with your trip. Greetings Andy
That is a great idea and they do have a specialised fan you can install to do just that, we’re looking into it now. Downfall with aircon is that it won’t work while driving on the road as the power draw is too high! Thanks so much for thinking of us 🥰🥰
Go underneath and check where all water, wire and gas lines go in. These usually have gaps around. Good dose with a silastic gun. Also maybe try a 12 volt Roof Vent Fan with reversible airflow.
Thanks Glenn! We’ve still got to check the small holes underneath but we’ve managed to ‘close’ off any around the roof and doors now 🙌🏻 someone suggested using a torch outside at night under the van and anywhere you can see the torch on the inside of the van there is a gap that needs filling. We will record this when we get around to it lol 😁
Thanks for the awesome epi. Lucky the kangaroo didn't damage your car that bad. Cape York seems to be doable for caravan now. But yes the dirt, really need to try to prevent it as much as possible.
Definitely doable in a caravan! We would probably go with a rooftop next time just because it would be a bit quicker travel time but otherwise, it’s a great adventure! 😁
@@BigOzExplorers we got the same car as yours. We are a family of six so our caravan will be alot bigger. It's semi off road, so we just do it slowly. Bring on 2021, we still in Sydney n so ready to go.
Another choice video...Chris your a good sport wth the kids lol shame about your issues but imagine if you owned a house these things happen haha and epic drone footage and music loved every minute :)
We pay insurance incase things go wrong hey, in this case we needed it but I hope it doesn’t happen again! Glad you loved it, that’s what we like to hear 🥳🙌🏻 See you next week!
100% we would have another caravan buttt we would look at a positive pressure fan next time around. Lessons learnt hey. Guess it depends where you want to go to, if we were always on road it would of been fine! ☺️
Being a city kid you don’t see them very often in that way! I’ve only ever noticed a mango tree when it’s got ripe mangoes on it that every fruit bat is trying to eat. Ones in the city are lucky to have 20 or 30 mangoes on a tree, this thing had hundreds!! Lol
@@BigOzExplorers Yep I have a small orchard with mangoes and they are covered with small fruit at this time of year all small like those you have seen Unfortunately due to being in a humid climate most of them succumb to disease. Good to see city young people with their family out and about in the country becoming more self reliant. Have a good trip and enjoy the mangoes when you find some that are full grown and ripe. :-)
We would probably go with a rooftop camper if we went again. It was really nice to have the caravan with Jack being so young but once he’s a tad older, it will be much easier to get up there without the van and just the car! :)
Hey Michael, we were at the front of the convoy and radioed back to our group behind us and the roo was nowhere to be seen so he must have hopped off. We hope we was ok 🙏🏻🤞🏻
There is lots to choose from on your way up! Highly recommend stopping at Weipa because it’s the last Woolworths on your way to the tip and they have the biggest selection at affordable prices. If you’re like me and have dealt with it for a long time (I’m coeliac), I tend to make most things from scratch. The further north you get, is a lot more expensive for specialty GF products but they are available. Plan as much as you can to save the $$$ but regardless, you will be able to do it. ☺️
Hey guys does your van have a positive pressure fan inside to prevent the dust entering? Worth looking into, also with the tool box i found adjust the tension onlatches up so they are bloody hard to close/lock and less dust gets in. I think there to loose from the get go. Great vid great info as always
No we haven’t got the positive pressure fan butttt I think we will get one lol. That’s a good idea with the toolbox, I’ll let Chris know 👍🏻 thanks for tuning in again Peter 🥰
@@BigOzExplorers I reckon, heaps of people where driving up on the top of the table drains as well,to much shit that you can hit on the top of them ,that’s where every body dumps there crap.
Hey guys , awesome content as always, Didn't you peeps get to see the feeding of the Freshwater crocs at Musgrave station? they are / where in the billabong behind the camping area .
Hey Patch, we did see them but we had a herd of screaming kids around plus they were a bit too far away for the GoPro at the time! Was very cool though 😁
Awesome guys. So many memories of our trip so many years ago. The dust would be a pain. Have you looked at a Carafan (pricey) or Dometic Dust Reduction Fan? Hope your leg is better Sian and Jayda had a great birthday.
That’s great, that’s awesome to hear we can help others relive their trip 🥰 we’ve heard of the two positive pressure fans but still yet to install one. We’ve just gone off-road today a long way and it looks like we’ve 99% found the problem anyway, thank goodness! Thanks for tuning in and Jayda also says thank you 🥰🥳
Yeah it might seem misleading on here, we all go at about 20 km an hour and quite close together for the drone footage. Generally, we were travelling at 80 km an hour and when we had the scupper open, we were actually at the front! One of the only reasons Chris was even willing to give it a go LOL... I think just the car and caravan combination and the way the air travels from the ground up mustn’t work too well for us ☹️
Heya Explorers, Did you miss / catch the almost Drone/Mavic-Crash at 32:32 ;-) Anyway fantastic episode as always - keep those videos coming :-/ greetings from germany seb
We wondered if anyone was going to see that!! That was the drone of one of the other families, we had a few close calls hanging out and droning together 😂😅 Thanks for watching all the way over the other side of the world, that’s amazing! 😍🙌🏻
Great episode again guys, my wife and i enjoy the long episodes as normal TV is boring. But I have a question, what drone do you use? Is it like a mavic mini ?
Haha thanks guys! That’s a compliment and a half that we can beat Sunday night free to air viewing 😂🙌🏻 We have a Mavic Pro 2 drone, we looked at the smaller ones but they didn’t have the digital features we wanted like active tracking etc... it’s a bloody good drone 👌🏻 Thanks for watching guys! 🥰
OMG did you go down that steep embankment??? I guess I’ll have to watch.......🤭 What are those dust extractor hatches like? People talk about them- I wonder how well they work?you could perhaps get one of those installed in the future. A big Happy Birthday to Jayda🥳
Tune in next week to find out Susan! 😂😂 Yes we are thinking about getting one, will wait until we are near another off road adventure then look into it as that’s another big hole in the roof 😂 Jayda said thank you 🥳
Your vids are awesome just stumbled across them!! 👍👍 We are doing the cape in august with a similar set up White Y62 21’ van 3 kids Any recommended gear/extras you’d swear by? Also do you have a rough budget you think you spent? I’m driving up from Melb! #keep the vids coming
Thanks Scott! If you've seen the Cape episodes, you'll know all about what went wrong for us lol... HEMA 4WD maps was life saving at times highly recommend the phone app, download offline google maps also (as service is limited), recovery gear for the 4x4 tracks and extra fuel (just in case)... Make an itinerary before you leave and track out where the phone service, water, fuel, food shops etc are. The roads may have changed but the PDR is notorious for being really bad through Laura, we were recommended the Lakefield NP route (which is also a pretty drive). Make sure you stop in the 'sexchange' (Exchange) hotel in Coen, great meals. Cheers for watching mate!
Shouldn’t need to take a welder but make sure if you have a hydraulic jack that you secure it. We’ve since learnt that’s a common thing to do as they can drop occasionally 🤦🏼♀️ no bar as yet, it’s ordered and ready waiting for us in the NT 😍😍😍
Dislike for putting that sticker on the road sign. The road sign is not your personal belonging. Other than that, I'm glad you had a fantastic time out there, and thanks for sharing the experience.
I would be getting in contact with the company you bought that caravan off and get an explanation why it sucks dust in. If they can’t come up with a solution, return it for a full refund.
That’s a bit extreme! We love our van and wouldn’t change it for the world. We’ve fixed the dust issues ourselves for a few dollars as the dust wasn’t enough for us to give up our home 🏡 🥰 plus a moving house on wheels with four flexible walls on the harshest roads in Australia, it’s not uncommon 💨
Great vid guy's looks like you are having a ball, bloody kangaroos always jump the wrong way, down here in Vic things are starting to open up so hopefully will be able to get out and about in the van,we are about to have a carafan installed so hopefully will keep dust out of the van, looking forward to your next vid.
It’s so great for the Vic residents, can’t wait for you all to be free and out of this crazy lockdown! I think a carafan is the way to go, heard good things about them. Looks like we may have solved our dust issues for now 🤞🏻🤞🏻 we’ve just been off-road today a fair way and we’re dust free! 😍 catch you next week ☺️
We had a convoy and we were at the front, announced to the others over the radio as it happened but there was no roo to be seen behind us, hopefully he was ok 🤷🏼♀️🤞🏻

Do need to put your sink plugs in to stop dust coming up the pipe ? Not sure of your setup.
No not in our setup, our pipes lead to a grey water holding tank and then that is also closed off while travelling. :)
Can’t wait for the tele track yeww😎🤙
Not longggg! So excited to share! 🥳
Did you stop after hitting the Roo? Do you think it was still alive?
Hey Michael, we were at the front of the convoy and radioed back to our group behind us and the roo was nowhere to be seen so he must have hopped off. We hope we was ok 🙏🏻🤞🏻
The countdowns on 👍
Oh yes it is! 😍
Awesome video mate
Thank you! 🥰
@@BigOzExplorers no dramas
Coeliac or gluten free preferred. If coeliac, what are the food options been like on the trip north of cairns so far?
I saw Justin from trip in a van adjust all their latches to getter better sealing from the dust.
@@katherineporter2654 we haven’t watched their episode yet, weeks behind on so many channels since the Cape and no service! 😅
Be careful on the Weipa road, lot of people driving in the table drain to the edge of the road get flats from the broken off guide, posts.👍
Yes there were many tracks down there, we drove them a few times too as the road was rough. It’s hard to spot the laying down guide posts hey!
@@BigOzExplorers I reckon, heaps of people where driving up on the top of the table drains as well,to much shit that you can hit on the top of them ,that’s where every body dumps there crap.
@@troymeredith9528 that’s good point, shame people litter hey 😒
Hey guys , awesome content as always, Didn't you peeps get to see the feeding of the Freshwater crocs at Musgrave station? they are / where in the billabong behind the camping area .
Hey Patch, we did see them but we had a herd of screaming kids around plus they were a bit too far away for the GoPro at the time! Was very cool though 😁
Living the dream
Living our best life! 🥰🙌🏻
12:00 Hunt down a branch that's about the same diameter and use that as a leg...just a thought LOL...3 years later...
Thanks for tuning in and Jayda also says thank you 🥰🥳
Only a guess from what I seen here but the scupper would normally work but not when your third in a convoy traveling that close together.
Yeah it might seem misleading on here, we all go at about 20 km an hour and quite close together for the drone footage. Generally, we were travelling at 80 km an hour and when we had the scupper open, we were actually at the front! One of the only reasons Chris was even willing to give it a go LOL... I think just the car and caravan combination and the way the air travels from the ground up mustn’t work too well for us ☹️
Hope the leg is getting better
Yes it’s better now! One scarred, one is almost gone 🥰
What made choose the Patrol over something like the land cruiser?
Lots of reasons! We have a build series around the Patrol and why we chose it if you check out the playlist on our channel 😁🤙🏻
Happy birthday jayda
Thank you! 🥳 🧁
Heya Explorers,
Did you miss / catch the almost Drone/Mavic-Crash at 32:32 ;-)
Anyway fantastic episode as always - keep those videos coming :-/
greetings from germany
seb
We wondered if anyone was going to see that!! That was the drone of one of the other families, we had a few close calls hanging out and droning together 😂😅 Thanks for watching all the way over the other side of the world, that’s amazing! 😍🙌🏻
Could I please ask if your mate in the 200 is happy with his Royal Flair Caravan ?
Hey mate, we’re not with each other now but through all our caravan conversations he seemed pretty happy with it! 😁
So your installer did not install the tow pro correctly?
No unfortunately... 😭 finally fixed but only when we got back to Cairns... It was a long 6 weeks!
I should add, my previous comment wasn't a veiled derogatory attack on tourists. I just love to see how people react to what I consider normal.
I'm now just waiting for the tele track.
Same! Can’t wait to share it... Andddd....
No comment on the supercharger for a change? 🤪😂
@@BigOzExplorers but you do need to get some clear view mirrors for Phoofolo.
Awesome stuff...what drone do you use/ have?
We have a Mavic Pro 2 Drone :)
OMG did you go down that steep embankment??? I guess I’ll have to watch.......🤭
What are those dust extractor hatches like? People talk about them- I wonder how well they work?you could perhaps get one of those installed in the future.
A big Happy Birthday to Jayda🥳
Tune in next week to find out Susan! 😂😂
Yes we are thinking about getting one, will wait until we are near another off road adventure then look into it as that’s another big hole in the roof 😂
Jayda said thank you 🥳
Great vid, how did the other vans go regarding dust. Cheers
We all had dust in one way or another. Took a while for all of us to figure out where it was coming from.
Your vids are awesome just stumbled across them!! 👍👍
We are doing the cape in august with a similar set up
White Y62
21’ van
3 kids
Any recommended gear/extras you’d swear by?
Wow that must be thrilling with all those noisy kids NOT!!!
Thanks 'Mr Opinion' 😂😂
Interested to know how the tow pro is even remotely related to reverse??
I know right! We were just aa shocked when we pulled apart all the wiring that was installed 🤦🏼♀️
This is the one I've been hanging out for Yew cant wait
Finally we’re there! I’ve been hanging out to share it too 🙌🏻
Hmm thinking I’m taking the mig welder with me ... way to go team - no bar on the Nissan yet ?
Shouldn’t need to take a welder but make sure if you have a hydraulic jack that you secure it. We’ve since learnt that’s a common thing to do as they can drop occasionally 🤦🏼♀️ no bar as yet, it’s ordered and ready waiting for us in the NT 😍😍😍
I can't believe that you are even thinking of doing Gunshot in a stock standard vehicle.
Trip in a van just posted the cape trip
Yeah, saw that!
Another great vid guys, keep it up and stay safe
Thanks Rob!! 👍🏻
Dislike for putting that sticker on the road sign. The road sign is not your personal belonging. Other than that, I'm glad you had a fantastic time out there, and thanks for sharing the experience.
Grt watching what fuel you getting towing the van
On the dirt/corrugated roads, 27.7L/100km average 🙌🏻
Great video from the drone. What drone are you using?
Hey Steve, we have a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone. Thanks for the feedback! ☺️
Thanks.
Awesome vid, the y62 is to fat for gun shot. Thanks for sharing 🙏
It’s pretty wide, panel damage for sure! I wonder if we get any damage though... 🤔😉
Haha, never to early to drink....
Five o’clock somewhere right? 😂 🍻
It’s 5 o’clock some where.lol
Always! 🍻😂
Try Hema maps on a garmin
Never owned a Garmin before 🤔
I would be getting in contact with the company you bought that caravan off and get an explanation why it sucks dust in.
@@BigOzExplorers Fair enough.
Not a good look but for an expensive van on its first trip on a dirt road.
Hope the van holds up.
Good video.
You do know From small mangoes Big mangoes grow.
😂😂😂 this is what you made me sing saying that 🤪 ruclips.net/video/6_ndC07C2qw/видео.html
Don't even know what a Mango tree is geez were have these people come from
So did you stop and check the roo and put it down if needed or just run away?
We had a convoy and we were at the front, announced to the others over the radio as it happened but there was no roo to be seen behind us, hopefully he was ok 🤷🏼♀️🤞🏻
