"Con: Hamsters are more active at night" It's a pro for me it's 4 am right now, and during in the day when they're asleep my 5 year old sister can't play with them. My sister is a bit rough when it comes to animals...
This makes me miss my old hamster i had her for a good 2 years untill she developed a tumor it was late at night and i tried my best to find a vet but none of them were open and the ones that were open dont accept hamsters its been about a year but im starying to get reintersted into hamsters just that vets are the one thing thing that scare me
hi everyone....Im going to build my own hamster bin cage, but I would like the kind of mesh that you see on a shop bought cage where you open it up. Does anyone know where I can find that?!
I think that the lifespan of a hamster is a con, but for some could be pro. If you can't make a long term commitment to a pet, I think hamsters are great because they live for about 2 years.
Yea, itzCrystalLps. But, they can live for 5-6 or 4-5 years. Or more, or less. My hamster, I'm going to get him. A syrian. Well, that's months far. Lol. 🙄🙄🙄😣😣😏😏😌😌😌😌☠☠😌😌😌😌😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😘😘 For Erin. 😘😘😘
I frankly never understood why hamsters are so popular among children... Chances are they're gonna try and wake it up in the middle of the day, stressing it out and possibly making it aggressive and decreasing its already short life-span... I was 18 when I got my first one :p
+zakuraRabbit You weren't much older than me, I was 16 when I got my first hamsters :P Hamsters can actually be fantastic pets for young children, especially for teaching them responsibility and encourage a love of animals. The problem with young children keeping hamsters is that some parents are under the false impression that a child can take full responsibility for them because they are low maintenance pets. That's obviously not true and not fair on the child or animal. There are lots of children who have hamsters that are very well taken care of but that is because their parents are aware that they are ultimately the ones who are responsible for the animal. So long as an adult knows when they get the hamster that they will have to take anywhere from 10% - 100% of the responsibility (especially when it comes to money) then there shouldn't be any reason the child can't have one :)
I think a lot of EU countries have the same laws (although here in Cyprus I've seen 5 years old buying cigarets for their parents so I doubt they would stop a child buying an animal!) but sadly there are still all of the parents who just see that as a formality, they go with the kid to buy the animal and then leave the child to take care of it. Legally the adult is the owner but some people just aren't educated enough to care! That's one of the reasons I keep posting videos to help educate the children and parents alike on the reality of keeping animals and the responsibility it requires :)
Yeah that's true... Norway isn't exactly the best when it comes to animal welfare... we have the laws in place but they're not often followed up on. I keep trying to educate people on proper pet care every time I hear someone as much as mention them:p I'm a bit worried it might make me sound obnoxious XD But like whenever I hear someone talking about "Oh I want two hamsters so they won't be lonely!" and such I have to speak up... For the sake of the hamsters!
They are? I've always been told Syrians are the easiest... Granted I have 0 experience with Chinese as they are rare in Norway... They gotta be pretty mellow compared to my syrians if that's the case.
Syrian hamsters are definitely easier for kids as they are much larger, much slower and more domesticated than other species of hamster making them quicker to tame :)
Hello y'all, I have just today purchased a female 6 week old Roborovski hamster. I previously had a lovely Syrian, but he has passed away from old age. Because I have gotten all of my information from this channel, a few other good ones and forums, I take very good care of my little guys😄 this little girl I have gotten from a pet shop, because the few reputable places around do not have hamsters at the moment. When I saw her in the store, she was running along the side of the aquarium nonstop back and forth. She had a flying saucer, but it was tiny. The employee took her from her cage, and she was friendly, energetic and didn't display weird behavior. The store cage was half the size of my cage, as mine in exactly 360 sq. in. When I got her home I let her out in her prepared cage. She did the normal bout of exploring, took food and horded it, drank a bit, then started on her wheel. She has been running for eight hours, only stopping periodically to groom. Is this normal? I'm worried..
That is absolutely normal behaviour. You don't need to worry. Hamsters are natural explorers, so they can walk till 9, 10, or 11 miles. (I don't remember the exact number ). Have a great day!!!!!
Hello mis Erin,my name is Anja,I am 12 years old and I just recently got a siryan hamster. His name is Harry and I adore him.He was the only siryan in the pet store I went to,and when I came to choose a hamster he looked kinda weird to me,but anywais I wanted a dwarf.Next day I came to buy my dwarf, but the man that worked there said he does not recomend them, cause they are to young or to agresive. Then I looked at the small cage where my siryan was and looked at him on totaly another way. When I looked at him I knew he was the one even tho I have been prepairing for a dwarf. My mom does not like gim aspesualy cause he is black, but I adore him.Today he is moving in about 500 sf cage and I just adore him and want to provide him the best. You are the person that ejugated me the most and helped me the most. When I grow up I want to have as many animals(hamsters;)) as you do.Sory for the spelling mistakes,I am from Serbia,so my english is not perfect.Again thanks so so much,i send you thousdands of kisses from Serbia.Love you! Ps. subscribed, duh!
My pros and cons. Pros: 1: they are so cute. 2: they are chubby. And 3: just so colorful. Cons: 1: cleaning their cage. 2: getting seeds and grains 24/7. And 3: my hamster bites my finger when ever I give him a treat thinking its a yellow treat.
My hamster has been really agressive until today when I was doing bathtub and she was wonderful and I have been holding her tones since and I'm really happy
I love your videos especially the hamster ones :) I'm going to adopted a little hammy soon and you are debunking what pet shops have told me in the past. thank you girl keep up the good work! The new addition to our family is going to be so spoiled and have such a good life because of you
Erin, you are so awesome. I've been a subscriber for a few years. I started watching your videos a few months before I brought home my first hamster. I still go back to your channel from time to time to refresh my memory and learn new things. Blessings ~ Jason )O(
my brother surprisingly tamed his right when he got home, it loved him and even watched videos with my brother, his name is flurry, he's mine now because by brother slowly stopped feeding him and taking care of him and stuff like that and my parents told me I should take care of him since I'm good at taking care of my hamster snow, and so I did (flurry is a winter dwarf hamster and snow is a white long haired Syrian hamster)
+rurumodi I am assuming you are talking about a detolf or aquarium tank? You didn't specify. It could share it with another tiny rodent like a hamster, mouse or gerbil (so long as they were completely separated from each other with no access) but tortoises need large tortoise tables and heat lamps, turtles need huge tanks with lots of water access, I don't think squirrels can be kept as pets but if they can in your area then they would need a very large avery style cage and rabbits also cannot live in tanks and need cages at least 6ft x 2ft in size meaning it wouldn't be possible to keep any of those animals in a shared cage with a small rodent.
+ErinsAnimals yeah i ment glass aquarium like the one your using..which is more better a female or a male hamster..and as i am thinking of getting to should it beone male and femal or both of the same gender?? I do not want them to breed though?? any suggestions or thpughts..anf thank you for your help its been of great help. ❤❤❤
When I was five we had about 4 guinea pigs and they wouldn't keep still in my arms so I kept dropping them, causing them to permanently lose their teeth and starve to death. But the fourth was mine and her name was Smiggles and she never bit me and she was so calm, I really wish we still had her so I could properly take care of her because when I was younger, I didn't know a whole lot about caring for animals
My pros are they are clean, it's fun to clean the cage and experiment with toys and themes, and they're so cute. Cons are- I have one dwarfie that bites, and bedding.. It's so expensive for just small bags.. I always have to pick up multiple bags so I don't run out as often..
That is the concept of having pets.If you love them, you have to deal with their cons and they will give you their pros. Dogs:Protects against intruders but barks loudly Cats:Reduces chances of heart disease and doesn't require exercise thanks to purring but poops everywhere and doesn't care what it bumps into.
my last hamster was evil. if o was wearing gloves to handle him (he was a biter) and I was wearing a t shirt. he would walk up my arm until he got to a bit of skin (not covered by anything) and he would bite it.
Guess what Erin!!!! I am new here and today I am getting the Detolf!! Gandalf the little RCD hybrid will be sooooo happy! He is currently in a 20 gallon long.
By the way, I just want to say thanks. As I am just a kid, without you CC26 hopping hammy and joy georgina Gandalf would've had a horrible life. I am also glad I did reasearch and that you guys were here to help. From The Budder Legend and Gandalf.
One of my gerbils has to get surgery a couple months back and let me tell you, it sure did cost as much as cat vet bills! I have 8 gerbils and 4 hamsters now, everyone seems to be doing great so hopefully no more vet trips anytime soon
If you live in a country where rabies still exist then any animal that comes into contact with a rabid animal can become infected but as long as you are keeping your hamster away from wild and diseased animals there is no reason why it would catch it :)
Just wanted say you saved my hamster s life. His eyes we we different so I took him to over as you said. It was something else. He had cheek pouch infection. Vet said he might have died. Thanks to you he is fine
is it possible that your hamster gets stress from another hamster being in a cage in the same room. One of my winter whites has lost a little bit of weight. He is super active eat and drinks regularly but just lost a little weight. What could it mean. Note: I have let the two of them interact once so they could get used to each other this did not go well so now they will just live on in separate cages.
My sisters hamster used to be an angel, but after a few months, he became extremely aggressive and we couldn't even clean his cage out without him trying to attack! He stayed this way until he unfortunately passed away (about a year and a half after the aggression stared) and we still don't understand why. We cleaned his cage regularly, refilled water whenever it was low and refilled his bowl when it was empty or close to it. There were no signs of wet tail or signs of him being sick, so we just don't know!
Hey Erin! I was wondering if there is any way to AVOID getting an untame-able hamster when purchasing? I am getting a hamster in a few years, and I would like to know how to avoid getting one that won't be too fond of me, if you get what I am saying! I really hope to have a happy and fun relationship with my future hammy. Any tips on avoiding an untame-able hammy? Thank you in advance for your reply! :)
I would like to chime in vet bills are not cheaper. The vet I take my boys to alwats charge 60.00 usd just to look at them and its 45.00 usd if they are seen again the same month. From what I've seen in new york. Getting the generic brand of meds does help lower the vet bill. My hamsters vet is always irked by the idea I want the generic instead name brand meds :/
***** A good example is baytril, the generic brand for that is Enrofloxacin. Its the very same thing. That is what I meant. I never buy meds from petstores those are water down immensely making them ineffective. But I do buy benebac powder when my hamsters suffer from diarrhea along with meds from the vet. Its great to sprinkle over yogurt before I give them baytril
Genta My point exactly also I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like you had a very inexperienced small animal/exotic vet ): I cant see how giving a dwarf hamster plenty fruits will help its respiratory issues...Never took my hamsters to see the vet when they ran into that issue. So the vet may have prescribed the wrong medication. My last two vet bills (2014) were for Main reason: Deworming -$150.00 Main Reason: Broken leg - $215.63 (a small majority of meds like baytril went up in price for whatever reason) Next time if you live in the usa or canada you can use this site ( www.rmca.org/Vets/) to find a vet in your area who does see small animals and is knowledgeable about them. Here's a small piece of info for you :) Respiratory infections can be easily treated at home with brewing thyme into a tea. I've used it with much success in the past.
Genta Ouch thats a huge bill. That vet certainly sounds money hungry ): You can do both, chocolatecolors26 here on youtube has a good video all about it, even a reference sample of what their breathing sounds like when they are suffering from respiratory infection. Its a good idea to use an eye dropper, but you may have ml syringes from past vet visits you can use which are better. Personally I wont ever use vets from petco again. I bought a syrian hamster 2 years ago who got wet tail, so I brought him back to the store so their vet can treat him (was still under the health warranty at the time) I called for a week once a day to check how he was doing, always told me he was doing great. The last day however after calling I had to wait half an hour to hear from the guy who takes care of the small animals to say "Sorry, but he died." Needless to say I dont shop at that petco anymore. But this is just my personal experience hopefully yours is better.
Sounds great, you're lucky to have such a great petco in your area :)! You did very well adding extra healthy fats like sunflower seeds to her diet :) Good luck to you and your future hamsters :D
+Hamsters 2004 Currently I store it in the freezer as in this country we get huge issues with bug eggs being mixed in with grains so when left out in the warmth our hamster food box ends up full of insects :/ Freezing the food kills the eggs so we don't have to worry about it :)
2 more advantages; they're handsome little guys and if you have a huge tank you can make it look really good with loads of different toys, hides and colourful bedding making your room look awesome with an elaborate focal point that's fun, safe and comfy for the hamster to live in. :D
Erin I have a question. I have a 515sq inch cage with 5 toys, chew toys, 2 hides, and an 8 inch wheel. Also my food is a mixture of 2 foods one has 12% protein and one has 15%. He is a serian hamster too btw
I have a questions a 1.cut newspaper as bedding is safe 2. and I forgot to leave them alone in 2-3 day when i get my hamster I can tame them or leave the alone 3.dog and bird food are safe 4. carrot are safe
Hey Erin! I was wondering, do you trim your hamsters nails? My hamsters nails are a little long, and, I don't want to cut the quick if I do it myself. Any advice?
I'm over here researching hamsters one more time! Because I'm getting a robo and i want to make sure u shop for them ( i meant I was getting 2 robos ) I'm so exited!
I'm trying to convince my mum to let me get an IKEA Detolf for my syrian, Cookie Dough, and I have been trying for a few months now, since I really got into forums and small animal RUclips videos! I would really like to get one because my hamster only lives in a Rotastak cage, and it's a * decent * (two of the large pods, a 3 level tower, a wheel pod and some smaller "bedroom" pods) size, but I can't get a large enough wheel to fit in there. My mum's convinced that the cage is fine and her back won't be affected by the wheel, as she thinks all my previous hamsters have been fine in it (but they were all really small syrians, and Cookie Dough is quite large!). I think the main issue is the fact that we only really have one place the Detolf would fit, and that is in her kind of "office" area/spare bedroom (and the cage would be against my bedroom wall, and when my hamsters used to live in that room they would keep me up with their rattly wheel!) Still trying to work on it, but parents can be so stubborn sometimes, even with their 15 year-old children who earn their own money! Eh, rant over! I hope I haven't drowned you in my pain.. Sorry! x
I think it's important to note that #6 isnt always correct. Taking small animals to the vet often costs MORE than a dog or cat because you have to go to an exotic vet. This doesnt mean you shouldnt take your small pet to the vet, it just means you have to think about that seriously before committing. I live in the US, and it costs 100 dollars just to get seen, and that goes for sugar gliders, chinchillas, rats, mice and hamsters. That does not include any testing or meds you may need.
(hmm..) rarely get an aggressive one that would wish to bite your finger off.. well I couldn't tell from the start that one of my Hybrids was aggressive until we tried to pick him up, and that ended with him sorta getting throw into the side of a tank... yeah still working on his taming
Thanks for doing this video, I'm going to show it to my parents bc they think they will smell and I will not clean the cage, but with this video I can show them that hamsters are good pets to have
I think it's pretty bad if my friend owns a Hamster and Hamsters are prone to stress illnesses. When her grandma calls for her, she yells her name. And then my friend will yell "WHAT!?" really loudly back. Or sometimes when my friend gets annoyed, she'll scream "WHAT!?"at the top of her lungs, then stomp through the room to leave. I feel like her Hamster will definitely get stressed or ill.
Yes, my hamster loves to run on its silent spinner at night but it helps me fall asleep, and hamsters don't smell, so you only have to change that spot 1 a week and the whole cage 1 month, the only problem is, my hamster likes to try to get out, but my dad made we a special cap for the top of my 20 gallon.
Ive noticed this quite often with my hamster Chester hence the name of this channel. Chester is always good at eating and he is great at drinking his water. But even before i got him from the pet store the Friday before last, he's been a bit skiddish.😏 Everything scares him. So i decided to take it slow with Chester. First get him use to my smell. Then we'll work on giving him treats that he likes. So i think he is okay but he is always hunched over. Granted he is only 3 months old. But is that common for a hamster to hunch over when he eats? He's been doing this before i got him too. But no one will tell me what's good or bad about it. In so frustrated. I know I can be a good hamster parent. I have the stuff ready for when we do move. But..🤔 That may lengthen the taming process.
I'm a heavy sleeper, I live in the city and my area has so much cars and motorbikes, etc. It will never be a problem for me if my hamster is awake at night making noise :))
I've done a lot of research and they say that rats usually die from tumours, it also says that their life ends at around 3 years (for my breed of rat). they're both 3 years old now and have tumours, we brought them to the vet as soon as we saw this happen. they said that it would cost 300$ to have an operation and since they're so small they might not live through it. is the operation part the same for hamsters? does their size affect the surgery?
Thank you Erin. I have a question. I was playing with my hammy the other day, and I think he scared a little bit (or a lot) because he stop moving, I pick him up in my handsand talk to him but he didn't react at all so put him backin to his cage. Is this normal? :( Did I hurt him or did something bad?
Some hamsters, when frightened, stiffen up for a while. Before I was born, my sisters got a dwarf hamster named Zippy. They accidentally dropped the ball it was in (cruel, I know). Zippy survived, but was stiff for two hours. I think everything will be okay, just try not to scare your hamster as they can get heart attacks, too.
Once I had a cage aggressive hamster that would bite anything that entered the cage, no matter what time of day. She was a dwarf, so I figured Id just reach over her to feed her. Wrong. She leapt into the air like a leopard and latched onto my wrist. Ouch! Ended up feeding her treats and daily food with a long handled spoon. Once out of the cage, she was sweet natured as ever.
I had a female Syrian who had a similar attitude, but for her it wasn't anything in the cage, it was anything that was either attached or poked through the bars. When she was out the cage she was wonderful and no amount of taming stopped it, so I just worked around it.
I still live with my parents and my Syrian hamster lives in a critter trail cage that is too small but my parents refuse to let me buy or build a new cage that is the right size. They say that my ham has fun in the cage she has but I strongly disagree and believe that she would have more fun and have a better life in a new cage. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
Hi Erin. I was wondering it it is OK to put a blanket over your hamsters cage(with a gap for ventilation of course) overnight to block out some noise. Thank You! Love You!
Elina Adenyayeva I've put a blanket over my hamster before and they've been fine. However, I never used it to block out noise, so I'm not sure if it would work. I'd suggest moving them to another room at night if they are making too much noise as they may also nibble the blanket.
ErinsAnimals i have 2 dogs and when they were little we got them a cage but they never used it so its just been sitting in our house. i am planing to get a hamster so do you think that if i put something like a piece of plastic or cardboard around the bottom, so the bedding wont fall out, the hamster will be fine living in it? please help me because thats the only con i have on getting a hamster.
My hamster who is now in the sky. I would get him out of his cage to have some time with him and I would lay down on my bed and he will always sleep on my shoulder and I will always sleep with him while he slept on my shoulder ....... I really miss him R.I.P Randy ❤️✨🐹☁️🌈☁️
Do you not use any lighting equipment? Sorry I'm not too educated on videography. I didn't know you could get such good lighting/colors indoors with just a good camera.
Hi Erin! I was wondering if you can do a video on how to move houses with your hamster. I know you did a how to travel with your hamster video. But were moving 6 hours away from where we are currently at. Is there any other things or tips I need? And my hamster doesn't like eating very much it will take him about a day or two to finish the whole bowl. And the bowl is small. Does this mean I have to change the food several times and see what he likes most? Thanks for your time! 😊
Hello! I need help, I have a dwarf hamster and they're really fast and every time I try to get him he just runs or hides. I would like to play with my hamster but I'm quite upset since he doesn't like me. I got the dwarf since the lady at the pet story informed me they don't bite but others do. I saw your video for taming hamsters but those are Syrian which are not fast. Any tips? Thank you.
+giuliana bedon You have to tame your hamster before it will trust you enough to hold it, the taming video on my channel is not just for Syrians it is for all species except roborovskis. There is a separate video on my channel for roborovskis. :)
+giuliana bedon Also every species of hamster will bite if you upset or threaten them, the woman at the pet store was incorrect with her information. Syrians are actually known to be less likely to bite than any other species of hamster and are the easiest to tame.
Hey Erin , My dog has been destroying his bed lately like destroying it . He thinks it's a toy . How do I stop him from destroying it .weve stopped getting him a new bed because that's a waste of 20.00 euro buying one that's be gone in a few days I don't think stuffing is good for him either how do I get him to stop !! All help is wanted
I know this is so old but I seriously call bull on saying hamsters don't go up just to bite you. I worked at a petstore for a long time. Syrians and dwarfs, mice, rats, guinea pigs were pretty chill and were absolute angels. Robos, no matter what you placed down, food, clean wheel, chews. Those little suckers would come all the way from their hide to bite you and bit me several times. It was actually what made me hate hamsters. I have since quit working at that petstore because the care for animals there was horrific. I actually really wanted a hamster when I started there but the temperament of robos made me change my mind. I know they are just nervous animals in a stressful environment to begin with but man those little suckers can bite!
This is a great video, but i do find hamsters bite fairly often. I have reached my hand in my hamster's cage to fix her wheel before, i wasn't trying to touch her or anything, but she decided she didn't want me there so **CHOMP**... it bled so bad xD
Hey. Erin I got a hamster last Sunday his names gizmo but one worry is I've let him settle in 5 days and every day visited him every hour and he is always on his wheel I don't know what do he doesn't seem be eating and drinking so I don't know what to do is he stress he has a 460 square inch cage so it can't be that so what could it be please reply asap
ino you said that hamsters rearly bite but my hamster kept bitting me even after i had it for 3 months and i made sure i wasnt makingit scared i slowly put my hand towards my hamster making sure it knows im there and even gave it a treat it still bit me and its tame but i dont know what i did
For the hamsters being Nocturnal, younger children would be better with a Gerbil. They are active during the day, waking up when the child wakes up and going to bed when the child does too.
"Con: Hamsters are more active at night"
It's a pro for me it's 4 am right now, and during in the day when they're asleep my 5 year old sister can't play with them.
My sister is a bit rough when it comes to animals...
Camii Re: ha no! It 9:49
Camii Re: Is she still quite rough?
Camii Re: omg relatable especially the sister part 😬lol
The biggest con for me is their short lifespan...
Especially when you create a bond with a them. It is so sad once they pass. :(
My hamster luna is turning two in early December I got got her December 22 2013 :(
+Aina Olsen robos do live for about four years though
I have a Russian dwarf hamster and apparently the live for two years. But I've had mine for here years now
This makes me miss my old hamster i had her for a good 2 years untill she developed a tumor it was late at night and i tried my best to find a vet but none of them were open and the ones that were open dont accept hamsters its been about a year but im starying to get reintersted into hamsters just that vets are the one thing thing that scare me
I put a sand bath in my hamsters cage and she pees in rather than bathe. lol
Kaitlyn hall loll im still kid tho
Kaitlyn hall that's quite normal. Hamsters generally see dirt and sand as a restroom as well.
ha well maybe that is a good thing
at least she doesnt pee in the bedding
One of my favourite pros is just how adorable hamster faces are! And of course they are one of the few creatures who actually have a cute bum too!
Yep...I agree
+Suhani Srivastava ya
Hello dis is Hamster.
+Cute Hamster HMPH, ARENT YOU SUPPOSED TO BE SLEEPING? -repeatedly taps foot-
Cute hamster I have that picture on my wall!
Omg! Can I adopt you plssss
What species are you
Colleen Malvina Boyajian I'm a Roborowski.
the hamster I chose was sleeping in the food bowl so non of them could eat for 5mins and kept burrowing under the Beding 😂😂
Omg durp Haha
Ella May: Awww lol
hi everyone....Im going to build my own hamster bin cage, but I would like the kind of mesh that you see on a shop bought cage where you open it up. Does anyone know where I can find that?!
Three Pretty Piggies lol
Ella May awh man I should have chose that hamster xD
The only think I don't like about hamsters is that don't live long enough.
True you get attached for 2 years and it's gone
SammyRatty, too true
True
true😢
My hamster is 2years old 😭😭
I think that the lifespan of a hamster is a con, but for some could be pro. If you can't make a long term commitment to a pet, I think hamsters are great because they live for about 2 years.
i just wanted to say, i love your profile pic! great job finding that Hailey L!
I love sleeping when my hamster is noisy it helps me relax
I got a hamster last week. You had helped so much. He is getting a lot more confidence now. Also he might just be the fluffiest hamster ever.
I could just sit down and watch you talk, for hours ❤️... The way you explain things... Lovin it
Hello y'all, I have just today purchased a female 6 week old Roborovski hamster.
Not to be rude but, is your lovely robo still alive?
Ps. subscribed,duh!
What do I do if my hamster does his business on his wheel?
You just have to clean the wheel more often :)
Right, but that's a funny one, ErinsAnimals. Lol.
Hi! Erin!! You are my favorit animal youtuber!!
Sames
Mee too!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
If you give them a treat or have had your hand in the food bag wash your hands before handling because your hands will smell like food.
I see you in every hamster video! 😂😂
Brookelyn Weber my hammy thought I was food for a bit, but I let him nibble me and he realised I wasn't
Brookelyn Weber stop giving your hamster yellow treats
Lol u have yellow fingers? 👋
I totally agree with what is mentioned in this video. Hamsters are my first pets and I truly love them!!!
My hamster has been really agressive until today when I was doing bathtub and she was wonderful and I have been holding her tones since and I'm really happy
What is bathtub I don't know what you meant
I love your videos especially the hamster ones :) I'm going to adopted a little hammy soon and you are debunking what pet shops have told me in the past. thank you girl keep up the good work! The new addition to our family is going to be so spoiled and have such a good life because of you
Erin, you are so awesome. I've been a subscriber for a few years. I started watching your videos a few months before I brought home my first hamster. I still go back to your channel from time to time to refresh my memory and learn new things. Blessings ~ Jason )O(
plz can you do a vid on hamster products you regret buying =)
Oh!! Saw. She did make that video. But, I'm writing 3 years after your comment. Lol. 😅😅😅😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
I’m a heavy sleeper but I share a room with my sister who is a light sleeper do you think a hamster will bother her to much our room is fairly large
i justmlove their beauty and their inquisitive nature
my brother surprisingly tamed his right when he got home, it loved him and even watched videos with my brother, his name is flurry, he's mine now because by brother slowly stopped feeding him and taking care of him and stuff like that and my parents told me I should take care of him since I'm good at taking care of my hamster snow, and so I did (flurry is a winter dwarf hamster and snow is a white long haired Syrian hamster)
would it b a problem if the hamster shares half of the glass cage (perfectly seperated by glass) with other animal such as squirrel turtle or rabbit?
+rurumodi meant*
+rurumodi sorry about the spelling errors my phone is little annoying.
no as long as they are not in direct contact
One of my old hamsters NEVER BIT ANYONE!!!! He was so friendly to everybody
My hamster has only bitten my older sister. Good thing, too, because she was holding my hammie without my permission. Serves her right.
one of my hamsters never bit me before, but my other two have :(
+animalcrossing909 lol so funny sounds just like something i would say to my sister hehehe 😏😏
+PurrfectPetShed haha same😂
+Rachel E Syrian?
When I was five we had about 4 guinea pigs and they wouldn't keep still in my arms so I kept dropping them, causing them to permanently lose their teeth and starve to death. But the fourth was mine and her name was Smiggles and she never bit me and she was so calm, I really wish we still had her so I could properly take care of her because when I was younger, I didn't know a whole lot about caring for animals
This girls channel is so helpful
My pros are they are clean, it's fun to clean the cage and experiment with toys and themes, and they're so cute.
Cons are- I have one dwarfie that bites, and bedding.. It's so expensive for just small bags.. I always have to pick up multiple bags so I don't run out as often..
That is the concept of having pets.If you love them, you have to deal with their cons and they will give you their pros.
Dogs:Protects against intruders but barks loudly
Cats:Reduces chances of heart disease and doesn't require exercise thanks to purring but poops everywhere and doesn't care what it bumps into.
my last hamster was evil. if o was wearing gloves to handle him (he was a biter) and I was wearing a t shirt. he would walk up my arm until he got to a bit of skin (not covered by anything) and he would bite it.
OMG!!!! Ouch!!!!!! Sooo evil.
I have a teddy bear hamster took me about three weeks to rilly feel completely comfortable picking him up when ever
The ending of this video made my day omg...
Thank you so much I love everyone you do!!!
One of my gerbils has to get surgery a couple months back and let me tell you, it sure did cost as much as cat vet bills! I have 8 gerbils and 4 hamsters now, everyone seems to be doing great so hopefully no more vet trips anytime soon
I love the way you change your hair almost in every video
LOVE the viewers corner! Tweeting images now...
Can you make a video about Hamster bites ??? 😞 And do they have rabies? sorry im new to the hamster world.....
If you live in a country where rabies still exist then any animal that comes into contact with a rabid animal can become infected but as long as you are keeping your hamster away from wild and diseased animals there is no reason why it would catch it :)
I just discovered your channel and now I cant stop until I watch all ur vids lol
A great informative video Erin!!! You put out a lot of good points!!
Hey Erin I just got 2 Russian dwarf hamsters and your videos are helping out alot
I don't need to worry as my father is a vet
Just wanted say you saved my hamster s life. His eyes we we different so I took him to over as you said. It was something else. He had cheek pouch infection. Vet said he might have died. Thanks to you he is fine
is it possible that your hamster gets stress from another hamster being in a cage in the same room. One of my winter whites has lost a little bit of weight. He is super active eat and drinks regularly but just lost a little weight. What could it mean. Note: I have let the two of them interact once so they could get used to each other this did not go well so now they will just live on in separate cages.
As long as you're not putting them together and their cages aren't right next to each other, I think you'll be fine.
Maybe he's just running a bit more, he'll be alright ;)
It might be from something else, is he eating?
And they shouldn't be able to meet each other
I’m getting a hamster on Friday this week yay!!!
Evie Senior did u get it yet ???
Yes
I have her right now
My sisters hamster used to be an angel, but after a few months, he became extremely aggressive and we couldn't even clean his cage out without him trying to attack!
If you haven't already, could you do a video on how to tell if a hamster is scared or stressed out?
My last two vet bills (2014) were for
Main reason: Deworming -$150.00
Main Reason: Broken leg - $215.63
(a small majority of meds like baytril went up in price for whatever reason)
Next time if you live in the usa or canada you can use this site ( www.rmca.org/Vets/) to find a vet in your area who does see small animals and is knowledgeable about them.
Here's a small piece of info for you :) Respiratory infections can be easily treated at home with brewing thyme into a tea. I've used it with much success in the past.
Genta Ouch thats a huge bill. That vet certainly sounds money hungry ):
You can do both, chocolatecolors26 here on youtube has a good video all about it, even a reference sample of what their breathing sounds like when they are suffering from respiratory infection.
You did very well adding extra healthy fats like sunflower seeds to her diet :)
Good luck to you and your future hamsters :D
Hi great video! I have a question for you. Do you store your hamster food in the fridge?
+Hamsters 2004 It is good to put new hamster food in the freezer for 3 days BEFORE opening it to kill any parasites.
This was the most helpful videos ever
Erin I have a question. I have a 515sq inch cage with 5 toys, chew toys, 2 hides, and an 8 inch wheel. Also my food is a mixture of 2 foods one has 12% protein and one has 15%. He is a serian hamster too btw
I have a questions a
1.cut newspaper as bedding is safe
2. and I forgot to leave them alone in 2-3 day when i get my hamster I can tame them or leave the alone
3.dog and bird food are safe
4. carrot are safe
What is I'm out in school for 8 hours for 5 days a week. Will they get sad or depression or bored?
Hamsters are crepuscular/nocturnal animals meaning they will be fast asleep during the hours you are not around :)
It's nothing to worry about. Look what Erin said. Ok? Have a nice day!!!!
I think the main issue is the fact that we only really have one place the Detolf would fit, and that is in her kind of "office" area/spare bedroom (and the cage would be against my bedroom wall, and when my hamsters used to live in that room they would keep me up with their rattly wheel!)
Still trying to work on it, but parents can be so stubborn sometimes, even with their 15 year-old children who earn their own money! Eh, rant over! I hope I haven't drowned you in my pain.. Sorry! x
Please do a video on the pros and cons of keeping cats.
Their short life span and them being active at night are definitely the biggest cons for me!
That's a really good idea of a video!
Thank you for the information.
Great videos thanks for sharing!!
I suggest you don't clean the cage only once a month.
+Taro's Pets oops I meant every week😂
Can u do an updated top 5 hamster products? Please !
Hello can you make a video series about dog care? Thanks!
My local pet shop didn't have chinchilla sand but the had bath powder.does that work too or is it bad
Good information- Thank you!!!
Ask your parents to get a bin cage. Just diy it it’s simple and cheap☺️😊
Oh! Tell your parents to switch places with your hamster. Imagine them in a small cage.....
Rachael Stevens ok, thank you😊
ErinsAnimals i have 2 dogs and when they were little we got them a cage but they never used it so its just been sitting in our house. i am planing to get a hamster so do you think that if i put something like a piece of plastic or cardboard around the bottom, so the bedding wont fall out, the hamster will be fine living in it? please help me because thats the only con i have on getting a hamster.
Pro: They are so Cute!💕 Con: You Can Die from Cuteness Overdose! 😍
What video equipment do you use to get such good lighting/color indoors?
+Daniel Dilly Has it in the description bar :)
Do you not use any lighting equipment? Sorry I'm not too educated on videography. I didn't know you could get such good lighting/colors indoors with just a good camera.
She made a video with all her equipment a while back
I love your hamsters and all of your pets in general! :D ♡ °●°
What do you use for your thumbnail?
sometimes being active in the night can be a pro, especially if your someone who works all day or goes to school.
hey Erin which video editor do you use
I liked the fun part at the end :D Great information too~
Syrians are actually known to be less likely to bite than any other species of hamster and are the easiest to tame.
do this not very often but put your hand in the cage and let it get used to you. what ever you do don't chase him
+PrisZy mations thank you :)
+PrisZy mations that was good advice but wont that stress them out just asking i really dont know
Hey Erin ,
My dog has been destroying his bed lately like destroying it .
Hey. Erin I got a hamster last Sunday his names gizmo but one worry is I've let him settle in 5 days and every day visited him every hour and he is always on his wheel I don't know what do he doesn't seem be eating and drinking so I don't know what to do is he stress he has a 460 square inch cage so it can't be that so what could it be please reply asap
ino you said that hamsters rearly bite but my hamster kept bitting me even after i had it for 3 months and i made sure i wasnt makingit scared i slowly put my hand towards my hamster making sure it knows im there and even gave it a treat it still bit me and its tame but i dont know what i did
Unlike other videos the pros and cons in this one are all true
For the hamsters being Nocturnal, younger children would be better with a Gerbil. They are active during the day, waking up when the child wakes up and going to bed when the child does too.
Pros: all of that stuff you listed plus their adorable, cons: my parents won't let me get one
