MC Geoch is such an underrated player.. His creative chords, riffs and leads really put magic and mystery into Siouxie's music.. Never understood why Yamaha discontinued this model..

My first pro guitar was the SG1000, I tried it against all the competition from the US and it was night and day better for sound and playability. Everyone who plays it says it makes them a better player. I've still got it 40 years later, I wish it weighed 8lbs though!
Yeah he was definitely a guitarist that had the technical chops but a very artistic sensibility. He did a lot of sound painting and created a lot of atmospheres, which was more suited for postpunk. He knew when to pull back. He knew that less was always more
I live in Japan, and today, I got to play a real 1990 Yamaha SG1000 through a JC-120. Playing Siouxsie riffs on that thing was so fun (I should have asked to try a flanger with it too!). I don’t know about around the world, but in Japan, you can buy an actual vintage sg1000 for the same price as the Eastman. I’m also a Killing Joke fan and got to play an Epiphone Es-295, like the Gibson es-295 Geordie Walker plays. The clerk at the store looked up online and showed there’s a store near my apartment that has an actual Gibson too, so I’m going to try it out soon.

When adding VAT and excise duties to bring them over - and with sterling pretty low ATM this makes them about 35% more expensive than they were even just 2 years ago. Fo one in mint condition prices now exceed what the Eastwood costs, which is (I guess) why they see an opportunity to fill a hole in the market.
@@sboistan I've owned 2 SBG500 and the sound is there but I havent touched one of those guitars they used to call them les Paul killers .. Santana and britt pop guys in the 80s I love mine

@@sboistan don't know how good these easrwood are built...the 70's and 80's yamahas are out of this world in quality...mine is 81 and I am still trying to find a Les Paul better built or sounding than mine...and m8ne is not the high end but the mid range sg800s...playability is also centuries ahead of a LP std in my opinion. If you find a yamaha go for it...unless these new ones are as good. Cheers
Is it just me, or does the body seem a bit smaller overall when compared to a Yamaha SG? I get that this isn't an exact replica, but something just looks off to me; especially when I glance over at my Yamaha SGs.
I love the Yamaha SG, you can get a Les Paul or Strat sound out of it, and the action is insanely low. I have a 2000 and a 300 (left handed, because i'm a freak :-) )

If you're looking at this you might also want to check out the D'Angelico Brighton Premier. A similar but unique guitar with a MAP of $799.99, and if you call GC during the holidays they'll likely discount it 15%.
If we're talking Gibson SG.. in the late 50's Gibson discontinued the Les Paul as it wasn't the big hit they hoped it would be. They revamped their Les Paul model into what became the SG. Les himself didn't like the new model so he asked Gibson to not use his name for that model so Gibson renamed it to SG for Solid Guitar. I'm not big into my Yamaha history but think they tried to come up with their own take on it. To me it looks like a Les Paul and an SG had a baby. It has the double cut shape but shares the body contours and thickness of a Les Paul.
@@raymon8044 the yamaha sg1000 was called the Les Paul killer as it was probably a better guitar than the gibson...soundwise it's up to personal preferences(I like both)...but qualitywise, the yamaha is centuries ahead of the gibson...cheers
I like those old Yamaha’s, but the Revstar 502T has wrapped its tendrils around my brain. I will have one in Bowden Green in Vintage Japanese Denim before the end of 2021.

Recently acquired an sg1000 88' mint condition. It was an expensive purchase but it's worth it!

You could grey import an original 70’s/80’s Yamaha SG1000 from a Japanese guitar shop for under £1000. It will be better made too. That's what I did.
