I liked how he kept running when he came off the platform.I take my hat off to anyone willing to jump off places like that because for someone like me who knows absolutely nothing about this sport, they frames on they paragliders don't look as if they would be strong enough. But hey what do I know. Peace be with you all 🕊️
That's actually something we get taught in flight school. If the geometry of the slope isn't as you expected or if some turbulence suddenly pushes you down, you want to be ready to be on your feet and not end up being dragged on the ground.
I did a duo fly back in `88 and we had to simulate running, but on a vertical drop on a mountain. Just before we jumped, he said "I`m a bit nervous" I said "You must`ve done this before though, right?" He said "Yes, but this is the first time since I crashed last year". It was a great flight circling over Menton, considering life...
The hardest thing I had to learn in Hang Gliding, was to convince myself to run off the face of a mountain. Nice takeoff. From his 'streamer' on his front flying wires, he had a steady updraft.
Yes. Same first step in skydiving. Once you commit, it's fun all the way down. I get the same hesitation making a tight u turn on my motorcycle. I know I can do it. I have done it. Yet I often lack the confidence to try.
I've flown off there back in 1979. The way to do it is to start back from the ramp, clip in, do a hang check then run off without dithering. The problem is that the air is quite thin due to altitude so you fall of the end of the ramp. Where as normally when taking off from a hill into wind you fly off. I think this is the only spot I've had vertigo whilst flying due to looking down the the shear cliff face.
@@freeheel748 correct ! With or without wind. In this type of launch it's crucial to have wings level and exposed to wind, ecen if minimal. Search hang gliding Fiord launches to see many correct take offs
Wow! I would have thought he would lose a lot of altitude before transisitioning into flight. This reminded me of cliff diving. Color me impressed. People are amazing.
I do believe in a good commited run on take off run in all conditions,,, but to watch the flyer running like that after leaving the ground was great. Got more guts tham me it looks like more or less nile wind conditions. Great video thank for showing. Cheers, Pete
Ce tremplin a l'air super impressionnant la première fois, voire flippant, mais en fait il est super facile comparé à certaines pentes douces sur les cailloux où il faut vraiment courir et courir ^^
Wow I felt that one ! Nice take off I was nervous this guy has gusto! I wish I could do such things but I'm terrified of heights and even most high speed motion... Respect though!!
On my first high flight I remember thinking, “ I’m 600 ft in the air hanging from a rope “. I forced that thought out of my mind pronto. Lol. Of course I was using fully qualified gear but there was a 8 mm climbing rope for the hang strap backup.
like a life in itself...enjoy the ride and you are coming down and land and then go back up for another take off and ride and come down to land again and so on...many many lives
After the Wright brothers man invented jet planes and space craft to bring us to the moon, and yet in all these it’s still our quest to be able to FLY. As song says “ I BELIEVE I CAN FLY “ . I believe it will come one day.
Exactly at this ramp I did my first "high altitude" flight. It looks dangerous but in fact nothing can go wrong if you learned the basics flying a hangglider.
When you lose controll the hangglider correct you for a stall and make a pitch up.. It's in the design of the wing (if you not to close to the ground ;-))
In my days of flying hang gliders, launch technique was to RUN. You ran hard, until the glider lifted you off the face of the hill. I don't think I'd have the nerve o just casually step off the cliff like that.
Never seen this type of launch. Why would you hold a hang glider from the side? Isn't it usually a man in front? I know it's a cliff type launch, but the guy can duck, or run to the side. The would make me nervous as hell with someone holding a rear wire. We always had the guy in front hold the glider at a point right before the hang glider wanted to lift. just strange to me.
This is pretty much the same as what they were doing back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It surprising they didn't have more success back then. There's a huge archive of film footage of would-be fliers jumping off cliff tops with hang gliders - or structures very similar to modern hang gliders - and invariably they plummet straight down to earth. You'd think - on the basis of statistics alone - that some of them would have stayed airborne.
not bad, but a steep take-off like this one, benefits from more of a nose down rotation at the start to pick up speed. Our group watched a few locals before we went off, toes on the edge, lean (with the glider) then run down the ramp
Bolsonaro represents prosperity, democracy and ethical values for Brazil. Synonymous with honest government and aimed at the growth of our country, hope for Latin America and example to the world.
That first 60 seconds is why I will never try hang gliding. No way could I step off a cliff to get started. Give me a nice, gentle slope, and maybe I could do it. MAYBE.
You're supposed to keep moving your legs in case of a downdraft. More necessary for a flat slope launch. This is a beginner pilot honing his skills. Well done.
I'm terrified of heights I would never skydive ever but for some reason I think I might do this start lower elevation work to that on sunny breezy day be amasing

This ain’t a paraglider, it’s a hang glider

That‘s trained in case he falls so deep he scratches surface again. You want to run if this happens.

Wrong. You never run off a vertical cliff. This was done right. This was a beginner pilot in light winds which is why he was hesitant.

Me too.
No you didn’t , don’t lie to be popular.
I takes me 2 hours in morning to wake up . And I am wasting for courage watching this.

So cute when he was still "running in midair"
You actually learn to do that. It's safer in certain scenarios and just makes sense to keep the habit.

Wind coming towards him up the hill = lift.

Textbook assisted launch. On a cliff you can't have a guy on nose wires. Never seen assistance on flying wires? GTFO.
