Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ibd #crohnsdisease #ostomy

I didn't have anything that caught leaks, one time I was babysitting next door and called my mom to come stay with the kids while I went to change. I love seeing new ostomy products though. Love your videos

I use a thick wafter because I have super wet 💩, tape wafers do not work well on my colostomy. My friend who is a nurse actually gave me a few piece and I use them and I was hooked. No leakage in over 10 years

Yes this is only for the bowels. Not her reproductive system. She still urinates normally and has a normal reproductive system. She has Crohn’s disease which is a gastrointestinal autoimmune disease. Part of her colon was so damaged that allowing waste to continue to flow thru it would have been detrimental to her life. It flaired up cause extreme pain and bloating, anemia, blood in her stools. She could get fissures. Which the colon is eaten away. Then waste is leaking into your system which would cause sepsis within a matter of hours and you would die. No if ands or buts about it. Perforated bowels are death sentences. We have millions of microorganisms in our gut that if they got into our bloodstream. There’s no chance antibiotics could catch up. The stomach, is how she is able to still eat and digest food. About 1/3 maybe a little more than what is typically normal for a normal person. She runs a high risk of malnutrition and dehydration daily. It’s recommended that anyone with an ileostomy stay on meal supplements in addition to eating. Fluids are always encouraged and you have to watch your output to know if your hydrated enough too runny can be over hydrated which then you will have diarrhea which is uncomfortable for an ostomy. Not enough and you won’t get constipated with an ileostomy it’s high in your colon, but your output just is thicker. Colostomies which are lower in your colon, are easier to manage. The stool is more formed, more like a normal bowel movement. You can with time train a colostomy like going to the bathroom. Hers a bag must be worn at all times it’s like a faucet. She’s out of pain, her disease is managed and she has her life!❤😊
