As you said the chance of a Gears sequel being announced this weekend is slim, but we are also quite sure that is being worked on at least. Do you think it will be called Gears 6? or back to Gears of War 6? or something else, like Halo went "Infinite" instead of Halo 6?
If it's a continuation of Gears 5, I expect it to be 6 and not a completely new title. As for the "of War", I personally think it will come back. I'm guessing that was some silly managerial decision. Once they saw the fan's reaction to it and the fact that management has changed a bunch, I think there's a decent chance it could come back. ...if it does, it will be funny to hear their wording about the 180 in direction :p
Friendly reminder that the last gears announcement was back in 2019 when gears 5 was about to launch. Neither Hivebusters DLC, neither Gears tactics, neither new operations were announced on the game showcase or the E3, we hadn't had anything gears related ok this events for 4 years
To be fair, they haven't really had a team recently. Back when they did have a team I also didn't quite agree with their approach in many instances though.

Honestly, I think they don't have a community team right now because TC "went dark" - as they announced a couple of years ago. Basically they've going heads-down on development and won't have anything to share for a while. They've likely accepted that G5 hasn't retained players as much as they had hoped. They likely feel that the funding required for a community team isn't worth the [likely] small benefit they'd be receiving at this time. I also just want to note that some of the shortfalls of their community team may not be their fault. Perhaps it's flowing down from MS. Someone is to blame, as it clearly was an issue...but who that blame should be placed on isn't fully known.
At this point, the right mindset to have is to not expect any Gears announcements at any showcase event until proven otherwise. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. The Gears community has a nasty habit of getting hyped up over mere hearsay and "This one guy said we might get something, so I'll expect everything." Personally, I'm not expecting any major news at this year's showcase. I think it's a reasonable bet that they will acknowledge Gears. Perhaps something along the lines of Phil Spencer saying "And our teams at Xbox are still hard at work on the future of Halo and Gears of War," but I think that's where Gears-related content will end. That being said, if 2023 doesn't see any Gears announcements, I think it's a relatively safe bet to see something in mid-2024, with a release for late-2024 or 2025. Regarding a Marcus Fenix Collection, I do believe that Microsoft has plans to make such a game, but I have no idea when they would do so. Perhaps before Gears 6, perhaps after. But given how vocal the community has been in their desire for a Gears collection, I think Microsoft, and the studios under their umbrella (not necessarily TC) will release it some time this decade.

Well Microsoft has also said that everything shown on Sunday will be game play or in engine footage. No CG trailers. So either they completely come out of the blue with something already being made or there's nothing at all really unfortunately
Speaking of which, Xbox has a massive advantage with how disastrous the Playstation presentation was, the monumental meltdowns the big Sony Simps had live on their streams was brilliant. Serves them right for being toxic fan boys and pushing their support of anticonsumer business practices so willingly, it's about time they be knocked off their high horses. I grew up from 2009 and the console wars in 2009 funnily enough but I won't lie, I'm enjoying the fallout from this more than I should be. 😅
I think it's also worth mentioning that there are other Gears IP projects that are potentially in the works. There's Gears Tactics 2, which I personally believe is a matter of when and not if, and any Gears movie/TV show. The latter, being Netflix projects, probably aren't going to have a presence at an Xbox Games Showcase. The former, however, has a far better chance of appearing at an Xbox Games Showcase. The reason why I feel it's pertinent to bring Tactics 2 up is that there's a question of when it would make sense for the game to release. If Gears 6 is slated for holiday 2025/2026, then it would make sense for it to come sometime in 2024, either by the Summer (the time period that this showcase is potentially going to cover up to), or holiday of next year. Anytime beyond that window could be encroaching on Gears 6 somewhat. It's also possible that Gears 6 is going on a super hiatus and planned as a console launch exclusive for the next Xbox console, which could be in the 2026/2027 window, and might make a lot of sense to do so when the brand Xbox knows that it's a valuable, first-party IP that is largely promised to release in some time-frame. I do largely agree that there's not likely to be much Gears IP presence at this year's showcase; just adding Tactics 2 as a *slightly* more realistic candidate than other games.
Mentioning show/movie probably wouldn't go over well, as MS got a lot of flack for showcasing media in the past - and this is a games showcase. Been a shame to lose touch with so many Gears people as the hype has dwindled over the years. Fall 2025 is my hope for a new Gears game. I'd rather they have the beta well in advance of the game (assuming there's a beta). And if the game is out in Fall 2025, then I'd hope to see the beta in mid-late 2024 or VERY early in 2025. So hopefully an announcement at the summer showcase next year.

They're a business. It's not really about what the fans want. It's about what is most profitable. A collection is going to be very expensive to produce and have limited revenue. There's arguments that could be made, but I can easily see there being a case for it not being worth it.
