He's marshal Oscar Carmona. He was part of the coup that ended the portuguese republic in 1928 ,and when president he appointed Salazar as president of the council of ministers. Carmona was the head of state during Estado Novo's first decades.

That's the idea. Carmona was not the President. He was you grandpa that was a war hero. He spoiled you while his serious son Salazar looked at you with an stern face. That was early Stado Nouvo.

The only reason why the Estado Novo got unpopular was because of the Portuguese Colonial War (1961-1974), but they were fighting Godless Commies, and they actually militarily won, but that stupid 'Carnation Revolution' happened 🙄
@@americancaesar1830 its more people being conditioned over the past forty years by the Marxists in our government and education, the war was never seen badly prior to the late 90s at least, heavy conditioning especially in education and media and despite all that nowadays more than half of the population would still support him at very least and the rest would be indicisive with a minority being against him, the Marxist indoctrinates.
But at the time of the war he had full support of the Portuguese people for defending our Empire, the only ones against him were a handful of traitorous marxists who got exiled(should have been all publicly executed)
Also there are no such thing as "revolutions" only coups led by the Marxist/Liberal/Republican which were all created by and are puppets of the Judas
@@alexmag342 Completely agree with you. Us Americans were fighting Communism in Vietnam during that time, but if we just threw our hat in the ring to fully support Portugal and *NOT UNITA* we could of got the morale boost we needed back on the home front :(

Quando ter orgulho em ser português não era considerado ser-se fascista. Quando a nação tinha identidade. Quando a maioria das pessoas eram de cor branca e religião Católica ou Cristã e não de tom de pele castanho e com religião Muçulmana ou Islâmica.

The "organic" thing was apparently said bt Stálin after the war, and he was right. Salazar wasn't a martial leader, a post-coup dictator or an aggressive ideologue. He was a moderate man, a competent economist and administrator and a person that knew well the dangers of political parties, specially at that time and age.
