That’s light soy sauce (my preferred choice). Some places provide dark soy sauce. So you can try and see which one you like better.
You had tea, I’m not sure if tea would work but had it been coffee, the locals like to pour some into the plate where there is sticky remains of the half boiled egg. Apparently it makes the coffee more fragrant.

Add loads more white pepper for more punch and a mix of light AND dark soy sauce if both are available - elevates the unami. The eggs here do look slightly undercooked imo. Not proper soft boiled. Not a fan of the ‘leaving it to the customer’ style of timing the boil. You’re supposed to get it right for them!
I’m a big fan of Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee at Amoy Street Food Centre for Kaya toast and eggs.
I will look out for the light and dark. I notice that most of the time I seem to be offered dark soy, but it does seem that every coffee shop has their own ‘way’. It certainly is handy when the eggs are given to you ready to go.
Next time I am around China Town in the morning, I’ll be sure to head to Ah Seng (Hai Nam). Appreciate the recommend!

I think amongst Westerners, or people not from Singapore/Malaysia/South East Asia, this breakfast gets a bad reputation - people who judge it before they taste it based on the gloopy eggs.
I think the set is phenomenal, but as I said, not enough for me to have for breakfast! I like it as morning snack or breakfast part 2!
I haven’t had it yet in Malaysia. Every time I go across, for breakfast I’m a Roti Canai kind of guy!
You should try Ya Kun Kaya Toast. One of the best!
I also like Toast Box, but I what I enjoy most is going to the Hawkers and Coffee Shops and seeing the slightly different variations.
