The high jump world record for Yuroslava Mahuchikh was the most impressive to me since I didn’t think she would get the world record this year. Most of the world records were in a way expected like Mondos and Sydneys
I'm unsure if I'd call it the most impressive, but for me it was "THE WR of 2024" (whatever that means I don't know myself, lol). There are performances that for their event may be a higher caliber, but when they're expected like Mondo who is still jumping below his peak (he could clear 6.30, & has been capable of that for the past 2 or 3 years, but may as well get $100,000 per centimeter) so when he gets a WR it's not as impactful as it's a height that's below his ability. I was NOT expecting the HJ WR to fall so for me that was potentially the best moment of 2024 Track & Field wise. Breaking a WR that was more than a decade older than she was, that was monumental!
And of course on the last day of the year, another incredible world record goes down! Beatrice Chebet has just ran 13.54 for 5k on the roads of Barcelona!
Still can't believe the SEC of all conferences 'cheaped out' on the wrong blocks costing CMW his official WR, smdh! Looking fwd to his NCAA 400m battles in '25 with OLY Finalist Sam Ogazi.
@DanielKendall2010 A spokesperson for the University of Arkansas, which hosted last week’s SEC Indoor Championships, explained that starting blocks “need to be linked to a World Athletics-certified Start Information System” for world records to be ratified, but “head coaches from the SEC schools have voted not to use them.” “The time by Christopher will be referred to as an all-time world best as well as a U.S. collegiate record,” the spokesperson added. “It may also be considered a Canadian national record, depending on the criteria Athletics Canada uses to verify a national record.”
Jakob's 7:17.55 was really insane. I thought maybe a 7:19 (high or mid) was possible, considering his 7:54.10 in the 2 mile from last year. 7:17 is just otherwordly. His finish was also riciculously strong When Daniel Komen did his 7:20.67 hin final lap was 59.09 (His 7:25.16 had a final lap of 59.77, and his 7:25.87 had a final lap of 56.x) When Hicham El Guerrouj did his 7:23.09 his final lap was 59.67 When Kenenisa Bekele did his 7:25.79 his final lap was 56.03 (He also did 7:26.69(57.06) and 7:28.64 (59.35) ) Jakob's 7:17.55 had a final lap of 55.4 (Final 1000m was 2:22.2)
In position #5, you meniton that the record is two point one, breaking two point zero nine: I suggest to better say two point ten, since it is meassured in meters and centimeters, and its always mention as ten centimeters, not as two point one. By the way: I love your channel... Happy New Year!
Who mentions it as ten centimeters? According to the decimal rules, TRP pronounced it correctly, unless the high jumpers call it differently to avoid confusion.
In rock climbing we do say the levels as "point ten", 5.10 five point ten, 5.11 five point eleven, 5.14b five point forteen B, etc. But in high jump it should be 2.10 two point one, 2.11 two point one one
I'm not convinced with a non-Olympic/IAAF Championship distance for number 1. Who is prioritising that distance in their training? The Women's Marathon is my pick.
Sydney's pb in the 400m indoors is 50.36 seconds, which she set in 2018 as a freshman at the University of Kentucky. She would have been 18 years old then. She has not ran a 400m indoor race since then.
Personally I hold Mondo and SML's records higher given how much they have pushed their events beyond what anyone thought possible. Especially Duplantis who jumps 6 m like it's nothing, while the rest of the world's best often struggle to jump even 5.90 - 5.95. Even more impressive the fact pole vaulting is so insanely technical and hard to master. Duplantis consistency compared to his competitors is out of this world.
I like the list, but I would switch things up a bit. First place would be the women's marathon. Second place would be Jakob in the 2k. And third place would be Mahuchikh in the HJ. Nothing against Mondo and SML as they are both phenomenal athletes, but they break WRs so often, it's kind of expected so not too surprising when they do. But I do have a question about the first record at #15. I thought I heard that record didn't count as they did not use electronic starting blocks, which is required for WR purposes. Or am I wrong about that?
Ruth Chepngetich's Marathon record is the greatest of 2024, not 3rd. Before Jakob's assault on the 3000m record some thought he had a 'chance' at the record; comparatively no one thought any woman had a chance to break 2:10. To not rank it higher because of unconfirmed speculation is wrong. It makes her performance guilty, until proven innocent. And that my friends is a hideous thing to do. By all means research and investigate etc... but do not convict without undeniable proof. I am disappointed in your ranking. I also feel that Alekna's discus record should have been ranked higher because it was performed under legal conditions, unless proven otherwise. Please do not submit to conspiracists.
Well put.. Jacobs record is aided by wavelength technology which is not available in marathons. Give credit where it is due. Chepngetic was the best in 2024 and I cant understand how she wasn't even on the list of top athletes of the year.
I heard that Sergei Bubka did the same thing with the pole vault. Wait until Guot Guot (Gout Gout) of Australia gets going in the next couple of years.
Not olympic discipline should not ranked that high because there are less events. The high jump record should have been #1 as it was both unexpected and also one of the oldest world record.
15 world record in 1 year to me is a lot. There is a new type of cheating going on that was not available in years past. Someone needs to say what it is. Make sure everyone has access to it. Make it a level playing field.
I'm getting tired of Mondo breaking the wr by 1cm every time. It's not amazing like Sydney or anyone else smashing the previous WR. He should just go all out and jump as high as possible

2:09:56 was the breaking point for me. From now on, I see marathoning (and much of the sport in general) as professional wrestling with carbon plated shoes. It's showbiz. Sad.
No offense the only one I don't really agree with is hurdles women 400 being 2nd maybe top 10, and maybe the 60 hurdles I find weird, but that's just my opinion at least.
i think, sydney deserve to be on top with her determination to compete n broke record every single time..same goes to armnd..now thats how we should choose our champ..rite?d consistency..

Agreed. Both men and women's world records set decades ago during the widely-acknowledged steriod era. This is #1 for sure.
Nah

Unrelated, but the 800m was soo close to getting broken. I hope they break it next year.
Not unrelated at all. The 800 will definitely be in next year's list.

I don’t think a race rarely run can be considered the best world record for the year. The women’s marathon record is clearly superhuman.
Definitely agree. If it was a more regularly run event the WR would be significantly lower.
This year I plan to set the WR for the 325m event.
I'm not convinced with a non-Olympic/IAAF Championship distance for number 1. Who is prioritising that distance in their training? The Women's Marathon is my pick.
Nafisa Thou Tiam : 3 Times Olympic Champion in the Heptathlon , in a raw !!! that the most impressive WR
Jakobs probably like 5th on my list lol
If Jakob's 7:17.55 isn't in 1st, then there's something wrong
(I'm starting the video NOW)
YEAH, BABY
What’s crazy is that the 3000m WR was done in 30C temps. How quick could it have been?
For me given when he did it, Daniel's 3k record will always remain 'the Mount Everest' to me.
Does Quincy Wilson have a documented indoor 400M time? Does Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone?
Sydney's pb in the 400m indoors is 50.36 seconds, which she set in 2018 as a freshman at the University of Kentucky. She would have been 18 years old then. She has not ran a 400m indoor race since then.
at 2:26 secs (idk how to time stamp on a computer) now this is comepletley agreeable
Completely accurate thumbnail 💀
Jakob was the greatest WR this year. 3000m was the toughest WR in the books this year.
Before I finish the video, I better see Duplantis and SML
13:54 from Beatrice Chebet!!
